The Shrouded Mountains exist everywhere and nowhere. Every mortal has seen them at some point or another. A mountain range surrounded by unusually thick clouds and dense fog. The treetops poke out from beneath the dense blanket at times and yet at others it seems as if they reach into the sky beyond mortal reach. If you were to look close enough you'd see the stone of the mountain range is dark and light never quite seems to reach it. Notably, however, you can't get to them and you'll never find them twice.

The Shroud
The actual town deathhounds are from is known as the Shroud. It is situated within the central valleys and inner mountainsides of the Shrouded Mountains, which host a multitude of natural biomes.
The Dark Palace exists at the center of the Shroud and happens to be situated directly above the Spawning Chamber located hundreds of feet below the surface. It hosts numerous rooms typically occupied by members of The Grim, as well as doorways which lead to various Afterworlds.
The Spawning Chamber is where deathhounds are "born", appearing on a platform alone or in groups of siblings aged somewhere between 3 and 6 mortal years. They spend the first years of their existence within the Chamber before leaving and joining those above in the Shroud where they continue to undergo training until The Herald brings their assignment.

The Grim
The governing body of the deathhounds. The Grim are the so-called leaders of the deathhounds and reside within the Shrouded Mountains, where in general they undertake the task of training newly spawned deathhounds and interacting with the various Death Entities also residing within the Shroud. Most often The Grim is comprised of the oldest and/or most decorated deathhounds in existence. It is not an elected position, instead they are called to it and it cannot be refused. Members of The Grim are colloquially known as grimhounds and are generally addressed by their Grim Title.

Relationships
Bonding; the ultimate form of devotion a deathhound can make to a Reaper, Death God, etc. The hound in question will begin to develop markings, abilities, and sometimes even mutations that reflect the individual they are bonded to. Hounds may only bond to one entity during their existence.
Union; though rare, sometimes deathhounds bond to one another and develop a companionship that allows them to work seamlessly in tandem with one another. These relationships are called unions and allow deathhounds to intimately work together, and even benefit from each other's abilities.
Mate; the term used by deathhounds to signify their romantic partner.
