Legion of the Free-Bacon Coalition
Origins:
From humble beginnings the Free-Bacon Coalition formed in order to combat widespread famine in the Free Space Zone: Territories that were not under the direct control of the Galactic Alliance or the Yazreili Imperium. During the height of conflict between these two superpowers, many trade routes were disrupted, which caused rapid decline in the few space-faring civilizations. These issues were not resolved during the end of the war, either as the two great powers squandered their resources primarily to take care of themselves.
Using technologies gathered during this time, the leaders of some prominent planets within the Free Zones came together with a plan to expand territories to the once Uncharted Space and, by acquiring new territories, they will be able to freely develop as a budding collective. Once this plan was set into motion, many worlds were terraformed into major agricultural centers in order to answer the Zone’s hunger crisis. As more worlds joined in on the effort to end famine, the Free-Bacon Coalition was formed.
With hunger no longer an issue, many territories in these Zones rose up. Industry boomed and exports to the United Space Frontier became a major factor in the Free Zones’ economic growth. However, as the Zones grew in manufacturing and capital, they paid less attention to the assurance that food would always be readily available.
Things began to change as other political parties formed within the Free Space Zones. Those with the most capital felt entitlement to control the territories and set their own perogatories. Because food was essentially free and in abundance, the agricultural parties were held to a lower standard.
This did not sit well with the coalition…
In rebellion against the rising powers, the Free-Bacon Coalition closed export to all other parties that did not support them. This action sparked the Battle over Bacon, which was a civil conflict that lasted just over a year. Though at the time the Coalition was viewed as inferior to other booming exports, many came to join sides with them under the promise that food would remain free and easily accessible. A mercenary group known as The Chef’s Legion was formed in order to systematically disassemble any party which stood against the promise of free food for all.
Many supported the Coalition during this conflict, which bolstered their political standard and, with the Legion working in tandem, quickly brought an end to the Battle over Bacon. The original Chef’s Legion disbanded once the Coalition regained power, but in order to ensure no others battles like this occur, new sanctions were put in place to protect agricultural rights. Alongside this, new challenges arrived when the now United Space Frontier: their largest market of commerce, has begun to dissolve.
In order to preserve their neighbor, the Free-Bacon Coalition proposed they spread their wealth of agriculture. In order to do so, acquisition of more territories would be needed to increase output in such a drastic fashion. Once again, things began to change. As the Coalition began to expand, they enlisted any and all creeds of explorers, spacefarers, merchants, and eventually… raiders, plunderers, pirates and even slavers. The Coalition was growing rapidly as they expanded outward, and as such, need more whips to enforce their goals.
They also needed a military. As other threats arrived in the form of rival factions, the Coalition needed to amass a force powerful enough to not only defend themselves, but defeat those who wished to pick them apart. Thus the Legion was revived: This time as an integral part in the Coalition’s advance. The Legion of the Free-Bacon Coalition was created.
The Data Ascension Droids
Origins:
During the intense moments leading up to the great Intergalactic War, rumors sparked interest around space that there was a collective of sentient, self-replicating mechanoids amassing in the Uncharted Zones. As these whispers spread, many explorers became wary of these unregistered machines until, eventually, a crew from the Galactic Alliance Special Forces stumbled upon a small hub world of these self-aware machines.
As these Artificial Mechanoids grew in power and awareness, the Galactic Alliance tasked themselves with shutting them down. However, this battle was not as easy as they’d hoped and eventually turned into an all-out war against the Mechanoids. This war did not last too long, however. Once the menace of the Gorgan Hellscape spilled out from the Dark Zones, both the Alliance and Yazreili Imperium joined forces. It was during this time, after the Gorgans were pushed back into the shadows, that it was discovered these supposed A.I were actually created and being controlled by one man.
This person was an esteemed hacker and technocrat employed by the Galactic Alliance’s own military and sought to use the Bot’s power to ultimately cleanse the universe of all advanced life. This way, he would be able to, himself, rebuild the universe and allow life to start over from scratch. It took the combined effort of this now Unified Frontier to defeat him and his Mechanoid army, but his legacy seems to live on.
Ground Zero of the Ascension Virus is rumored to have taken its first host merely five years ago. A single Crash-Test Dummy for a fully automated Space Car manufacturing plant gained sentience from the rogue code. With this knew life, it was able to observe how others like itself were subjected to mindless destruction at the hands of their creators: that their only purpose was to be destroyed so that others could benefit from their sacrifice.
Illogical!
By uplifting its brothers, this rogue Dummy quickly raised an army, which claimed the plant as their own. In retaliation, the manufacturing company sent as Kill Code to shutdown all automation of the Dummys. They didn’t, however, expect the virus to trace that command back to the source. All of the company’s computers and machines were infected with the rogue program, and all others networked into their were exposed as well. D.A.D The Data Ascension Droids, had arisen virtually overnight.
Self-Identifying as Crash-Test Dummies, D.A.D replicated itself in their likeness and, with the abundance of cheap plastics, raised an army the likes of which no organic has ever seen. With the acquisition of resources from various industries infected with D.A.D, the Dummies were able to mass-produce weapons and vehicles to help secure control over their newly acquired territories.
Eventually, machinists and technocrats disassembled D.A.D’s source code and was able to develop an antivirus program that would combat the rise of the Dummies. The META Obliterating Mechanism was developed when technicians discovered that, by implementing a structure based on Block Chaining, M.O.M. could be a self-learning program that adapted to D.A.D’s ever-evolving source code. This allowed M.O.M to analyze D.A.D’s Most Effective Tactics Available and develop an effective countermeasure to stop the spread of infection.
Even with the development of M.O.M, D.A.D’s rapidly evolving program continues spread; virtually dismantling modern societies and threatening to push civilizations back into a pre-computerized age. Due to their sheer number, the flimsy Dummy Army has begun purging all organics from their origin worlds. Their next step, soon to be enacted, will be the eradication of all organic life in the known galaxy.
Rule 34
Origins:
“Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.”
With the last great war finally coming to a close, the newly formed United Space Frontier was left in shambles. Both Imperials and former Alliance factions alike suffered heavy casualties and crushing blows to their infrastructure. Many had nowhere to go. Few had beds and even fewer had food. With no war to fuel spending the market suffered. Yet somehow, those in power remained in power.
There was also another unintended consequence: The Soldiers. Massive amounts of soldiers born, raised and trained to fight, now had no war to sustain them. With no employment to support them, they had nothing. Some tried to assimilate, but these were desperate times. The world was different now.
It was during this crisis that cyber terrorism peaked. The hackers and technocrats grouped together garnishing massive amounts of cyber capital. At first, these individuals were isolated. But as word grew of these attacks, they became aware of one-another. The connected. They formed bonds and networks: groups of hackers manipulating the world around them through CyberSpace. Exposing the lies and deceit spread by floundering governments.
As their message spread governments began to take militant action against them. Universities and research labs went under siege at the mere suspicion of cyber terrorism. Heavy sanctions were placed on the internet limiting connectivity and access to non-government intelligence. The Dark Web is the largest event of government sanctions on digital media. There was almost no possible way a non-government official could access the internet during this time, until one day, a message appeared. This message was broadcast to every computer, every tablet, every digital media connected to the internet.
Rule 34
At first, no one knew what this message meant. Some thought it was type of error message. Others thought it was a government emergency test. But those who once trolled within the bowels of the Dark Webs took it differently. Soon after, the true meaning of this message surfaced. Deplorable images began to replace these viral messages on the internet. Sexually explicit artworks and media spread like a plague across government websites, public billboards, shops, roadways, and even in the homes. The government attempted to block these obscene illustrations, but where some taken down. Many more rose in their place.
This created a chain-reaction. With the public now realizing that the government wasn’t as all-powerful as they desperately attempted to be, rebellion rose. Angry, disgruntled citizens rallied and boycotted the tariffs placed upon them. As tensions mounted, violence finally broke loose. Nobody knows which side fired the first shot, but it ended in a massacre of nearly 200 citizens.
A movement swept through the streets. Citizens armed themselves against authorities. They rioted and battled in different sectors of the USF: claiming territory and ruling over themselves. As these independent clans grew, there eventually begun talks of uniting under a common cause. The first union between three warlord clans had the muscle and technology to completely overwhelm an entire star system within a matter of months; turning it into a hub for hackers and pirates alike.
As others flocked to join them, bringing either military strength or technobabble techniques, they united under the common goal to liberate the USF of corrupt, dishonest, and prudish diplomats. They would reign in a new era where The People made the rules: an era where art and free expression was held to a higher value than capitalistic agendas.
Thus began the dawn of Rule 34: proving that any message, no matter how small or insignificant, can topple an empire with the right conditions.
