Our terms.
Truly, I dislike the term "rules" since this always sounds so controlling and formal, so here are the "Guidelines" that should be read and respected for the fun roleplay that awaits!
Play nice.It goes without saying that drama can be avoided if folks put effort in. Which effort? Why a little kindness and consideration, of course!
Setting. The Kingdom, Tanbarune takes place during the medieval era with high-fantasy and low-steampunk elements. This means no modern, or sci fi mentions. Such as hoodies, cell phones, etc. Regarding low-steampunk, this setting is new to its' technological milestones. The airships are fully functional yet still rely on magic and machine to work as one among the engine rooms, weapons are limited to classic medieval armory but proposals are welcome if your character wields something unique. There are no vehicles on the roads beyond horse drawn carriages and no electricity to speak of.
The weather remains warm and sunny throughout the entire year with a rainy season during the spring and fall. Detailed information of Tanbarune can be found under "IC Knowledge."
Artistic Disclaimer. Most artwork should be considered references only and I do my best to credit and link back to the original artist directly. Neither my beloved mods or myself profit from this group. However:
Please note: My co-writer and I are having this creation (Tanbarune) copywrited in the near future. All writing pertaining to this lore is our own; races, religion, history, traditions, culture, characters, and more. Those who copy will face legal trouble. If you'd like your OC to join one of many stories on the other hand, or you're even interested in playing a semi-closed species, please ask.
Post length and order.I would like to keep encouraging multi-para while writing in our group. Having said that, the absolute minimum expected of players is only five lines. This helps keep the flow and pacing within a scene while giving others something to work from.
The overarching plot takes place on the Top Deck or a new topic (Enchanted Rescue Mission) temporarily if the setting changes. All other topics are considered casual scenes for detailed immersion and members are encouraged to post throughout them! It's assumed that the IC topics take place at different times of the day, allowing you to partake in both the Top Deck/overarching plot as well as these casual scenes simultaneously. While there is no post order to offer flexibility, we do ask that members do not skip the Creator during scenes related to the main story.
Here to play.Yes, we're here to do just that - play! I completely understand that some players may wish to socialise OOCly. Even so, OOC chatter is expected to remain among Private Messages for the most part. (Or the appropriate forum, of course!) Please keep in mind that those who are inactive for months at a time will be removed from our group. This is only to reflect an accurate number of those who are playing. If you find yourself removed and wish to return later, you are welcome to shoot me a PM!
Man overboard! It complicates things if a member becomes inactive mid-combat. If a character in a combat scene becomes inactive for a total of five days with no heads-up prior, we will roleplay them falling overboard/taken out as a result of the battle taking place. I will then send you notice via PM, and your character is more than welcome to make a heroic comeback upon your return to the group.
Original characters. While taking inspiration from a loved source such as a book, or show is a-okay, there cannot be exact replicas. Similarly, game/tv lore are not welcome to keep Tanbarune among its' own separate creation. Thank you!
Multiple characters.Members may play up to two characters if they desire. With that said, these Alts are required to have different roles upon the Ship, and both cannot be present in the same scene. For those curious, this rule is in place to keep people from risking OP themes among combat through alts. Group roleplays are for interaction, not reaction.
You may notice ShinOni and I, (Robyn) being the exceptions as we roleplay a small cast of characters throughout. Like a classic Dungeon Master, however; this is soely to progress the story.
IC Actions = IC Consequences.Should someone play say, an unapproachable character, others may simply avoid them IC. So please, do not take these things to heart OOC. Similarly, consequences can be expected should your character act out, such as conflict among the party/crew.
Grown up players.Since we do seek detailed roleplayers, the set age limit is 16+.
NPC-Control.Many crew members can be seen scattered throughout the ship, as it would naturally take dozens upon dozens of members to fly the Empress. These NPC's may be interacted with in passing, but otherwise the Mods and Creator will roleplay the present NPC's. The reason for this being a little strict is that it would be a shame if folks' abused power.
Combat and Magic.Every attack, be it magical or traditional may be attempted only, as auto-hits are not tolerated here. Everyone is expected to attempt one attack per post. It would tilt into OP territory to have a character strike many times before the receiver had time to react, after all. Thankfully this rule keeps combat fair for all!
Dice.Players are expected to roll a 1d20 in some scenes. 12 or higher leads to success, while 11 or under leads to failure. Rolls are needed for the following:
- Dodging an incoming strike.
- Blocking an incoming strike.
Note: No dice are needed to cast magic. It simply must be written as an attempt if the magic has an effect on another character. Such as attacks or enchantments.
Hold up, you lost me! Could you give me an example of the combat mechanic?
I sure can, buddy! Here is an example:- Frank wants to use a magical or traditional attack against his foe. So, Frank attempts/hopes/tries to strike Charles down.
- Charles rolls a 1d20 dice to try and dodge! 12 or higher? He drops and rolls out of harm's way. 11 or under? Frank strikes him.
Tip: If your character is hit, how they take it is up to you, the player. They don't necessarily have to drop and end with game over! Get creative, make it funny, make it heroic and dramatic, the choice is yours!
Scene and Quest creation. If you wish to add a scene/topic of any kind, please feel free to send a message my way. New content is always welcome! Similarly, members are welcome to propose side-quests in the OOC forum, adding even more adventure and excitement of your very own that is separate from the main plot.
Don't be that guy!It goes without saying that over powered characters are no fun. While powerful characters are very welcome here, deciding to blow up a room, character, the Empress itself, attempting to kill off another character in a single post, and so forth will not fly! Metagaming is also unwelcome. I will bite your toes. Now roll on that creative freedom.
Whew! You got through that jibber jabber? Congrats!
