Dice Clarification!

Posted by Robyn February 17th 2020, 12:24pm
Howdy! I've added another small addition to our dice rule to clarify an action mid-combat, specifically redirecting magic instead of blocking or dodging. This is important to keep the combat an exciting and unpredictable risk, but more importantly to keep combat equal and fair. Please read our Dice section among the Rule page for more info. :)

That's a great question! This is actually covered in the rule titled "Casting the magics."

This is by attempt-only due to this effecting another's character, which requires consent. Otherwise this would be an auto-hit. So healing another should be attempted, and the receiving player is left to either accept the magic, or roll to evade it. Whether this be by redirecting, dodging or blocking.

But once again, how a failed or successful roll is role played up to the member who rolled, still giving folk creative freedom while not allowing auto hits and the like. :)

Another, related, question: how should things like healing or shielding be handled when used on foes or characters that don't want the help? Should the caster roll for that attempt or should the target roll to block/dodge/redirect? Or is it then up to the target's player to handle as they will, sans roll?
