Speedy's
June 29, 1982
Afternoon

It was nearing the end of the shift when a red two-door 1976 Volare pulled into one of the bays in Tabby's section of the parking lot. Things had been unusually busy ever since Speedy's opened and the girls had not had any time to talk since clocking in. Tabby skated up to the car and saw a guy with long hair and a baseball cap. It wasn't until he turned around that she recognized him.

"I wanted the little blonde car hop," he said as soon as Tabby realized who she was dealing with and scowled.

"Well you parked in the wrong spot, dude," Tabby retorted and whipped out her pad to take the order. It was then that she noticed Matt was riding shotgun in the passenger seat. Tabby realized she'd never seen this car before. It was bright red with a white top, and a white leather interior.

"Where the hell did you get this," Tabby asked.

"Just go get Starla," Trevor replied.

"Nope, she's busy and you're in my area," Tabby shot back.

"I'll just park in a different spot then," Trevor informed her.

"And I'll just skate over to the new one," Tabby smirked. "You can't get rid of me."

"Then not only will I not tip you, but I'll pick you up and shove you in the trunk," Trevor threatened. "Matt, here is the trunk key. I need you to hop out and show Short Stuff the third-class section."

OOC: You can start this one whenever you're ready. Feel free to sprinkle Matt in as you see fit. Starla and/or Shelley can spot them or Matt can call them over at any point.

With a look of mischief on his face, Matt took the key and hopped out. He hurried to the back of the car and opened the trunk. “See? Plenty of room for a tiny smart-mouthed carhop,” he teased.

As she was gliding up to the window to turn in an order, Shelley noticed Tabby talking to Matt over by a red car she didn’t recognize, and for some reason the trunk was open. That piqued her curiosity, and once she’d clipped her order to the order wheel she skated over to see what was going on. “Hey Tabby, is this creep giving you trouble?”

*tag Tabby*

Matt smiled when he saw Shelley coming to Tabby’s aid. “Hmmm…it might be a little crowded, but I think Trevor and I can cram you in there too,” he said, gesturing to the trunk. “It’s not like Tabby takes up much room. Y’all might even enjoy it; you could pretend you’re Spritle and Chim Chim stowing away in the trunk of the Mach 5.”

Shelley laughed. “It’s yinz, not y’all, and you’re not getting me in that trunk.”

“Oh yeah? What makes you so sure?” asked Matt.

“First of all, you wouldn’t be able to catch me; my legs are longer than yours, and I’m on skates.” Shelley briefly glanced behind Matt at a rapidly approaching blonde carhop. “Second of all, we have backup. We outnumber yinz three to two.”

Starla glided up behind Matt and quickly came to a stop. “Hey Matt, what’s up? And what’s with this red car? I don’t think I’ve seen it before.” With the trunk lid up and partially blocking her view, Starla hadn’t yet spotted Trevor in the driver’s seat.

Trevor had been watching things unfold from the driver's seat. The passenger door was open as was the trunk, but the view was obscured. Trevor opened the driver's side door and popped up over the roof.

Starla’s eyes widened. “A car for me? Wow! That would be cool! Uh, how much does he want for it?” She began running numbers in her head, figuring out how much she could afford. She was also wondering how Marie and Doreen and the other cheerleaders would react to it. Would having a car of her own raise her status in their eyes? Or would its reputation for having problems be a source of embarrassment for her? Would any of the cheerleaders even know that Volarés tended to have issues? Probably not; she didn’t think any of them knew much about cars. And it would certainly be nice not to have to rely on her mom to drive her where she needed to go.

He was probably still pissed off at her for fleeing Pittsburgh with the car, and he undoubtedly considered her a threat because of what she had seen. And she still had that film!
