The Lost know that there are things beyond the edges of the Hedge and mortal perceptions but few question the very mysteries that surround them in everyday life. One of the most worrisome events of late has been the strange inability for the Lost to slip out of Austin at all with strange mists and tides turning them about and sending them back to where they started. These occurrences appear to only be impacting the Changelings of the city who are trying to leave while mortals are unaffected and those who desire to enter into the city are able to do so. Rumors have begun to circulate that the Gentry are planning to siege the city and this is merely the first step in preventing the Lost from escaping their clutches trapping them like rats on a sinking ship. The Hedge itself seems affected as well as trods that used to lead to distant lands turn back in on themselves or end abruptly in brambles and thorns though local manifestations an points of interest seem to be presently fine.

The jangle of coins, smell of fresh wax, feeling of ink beneath one's fingernails, and taste of whispered deals can be felt throughout the Hedge the closer one gets to the Goblin Markets. Many of the local goblins have begun to close up shop while new ones are arriving to take their places. Some speak in hushed tones of a coming doom while unfamiliar Changelings are now moving through the market at a brisk pace buying up many of the best locations, choice fruits, and dangerous Tokens. Coveted faerie gold has begun to circulate the market as well inflating prices for local Lost and leaving many with a feeling that some sort of change is afoot. For now, the prices are reasonable at the more reliable shops that making the trek is not a fool's game. Yet there maybe cause to worry as goblins and hedge beasts alike have begun to pass a phrase that makes little sense, but feels ominous in the extreme: beware a debt turned bad.

The current monarchs are beloved, reviled, feared, and feted, but they are not the original ones to found the Freehold of the Locked Tower. Five years ago, the entirety of the Freehold vanished leaving behind naught a trace though four particular figures arose from the ashes to take the crowns anew. Long time residents vanished as well leaving only a few who have any knowledge of the previous Freehold's existence and none who claim descent from them. Even the most erudite scholars have turned up empty handed, their scrolls and tomes revealing only that a great doom befell the land with excised or blotted out text, pictures, and clues. Rumors have begun to swirl of lost treasures kept in the keep that can only be accessed by those who would be fool enough to enter. The question on everyone's minds though: "How can anyone know that there is treasure within if no one has ever entered the tower?"
