How to Play

  • Every role in the game has a specific rule set to follow. However, there's still some basic directions for everyone. Read very carefully! If you don't know how to interact together, no one will be able to get very far into the RP. First read the general information on how to play, then read each role.

1ST: The overseer with count the amount of players, then have each player number off. The numbers cannot be public, so it's the overseer's job to make sure no one picks the same number. If there is no overseer, then a moderator or admin will be substituted.

2ND: Once the numbers have been picked and there hasn't been any repeated variables, use an online spinner or number generator to pick the number of the killer. The overseer should then directly message the murderer to let them know, but shouldn't message any other player.

3RD: Then, the murderer and overseer should interact together. The murderer must plan how they wish to murder the owner (Mr. Barry) and tell the overseer so they can write it out. The overseer will have to act out other murders as well, so it's important to communicate. If the murderer posted their own murders, then everyone would know their identity.

4TH: Meanwhile, the other players should wait to begin until after the overseer has introduced the butler and the scene which ends in Mr. Barry's murder. They will have to pay attention to key details to figure out the murderer. Which also means mingling with guests to reveal information subtly. They should also group up and separate as needed, so that the killer can slowly kill off members to reveal more clues (hence the reason why you should have more than one character).

5TH It will be the guest's job to accuse someone after collecting evidence against them. It's important to have information to accuse with before making a claim. The butler (overseer) will refute you if you're evidence doesn't add up. As well as other guests. Even the killer can blame someone else for the crime, and if no one can refute the crime, then an innocent can be charged. This will allow the killer to ultimately win. If someone guesses right, then the killer loses. If everyone dies before anyone is accused, then it is still the murderer's victory.

6TH: Once finished, the killer becomes the overseer, and they then use the generator to select the next murderer. The process repeats.

This is how each game should be played, but these are also loose rules. A more detailed description of each role is available below.
  • OVERSEER:
The Overseer automatically plays the butler. The identity and personality is fully optional. Besides this, they can play however many characters they'd like. However, they should be careful not to take on too much.

The job of the Overseer is to select the murderer for each round, and then work with them to set up their crimes and reasons for murder. They need to be able to actively work with the killer to post when they wish to commit a crime, and what evidence to leave behind. It's very important that the Overseer makes sure the murderer follows the rules.

They should also refute or accept any theories given by other guest members, even those by the killer, should they wish to accuse or confess. In other words, if no one disagrees with an accusation, then they must take the conversation to the "Reveal" forum and explain whether or not the players were correct.

    MURDERER:
The murderer can have as many characters as they like. However, they should remember to also explain or write their crimes to the Overseer so that others can guess the true identity of the killer. They should be sure to include small details and clues that others can follow.

It's important that the murderer only attacks players that are separated or vulnerable. It is not realistic to assault someone surrounded by other guests and isn't in any way defenseless. Besides that, they have free range on who dies, provided they set up the scene with the Overseer.

Beyond this, the murderer has all the rights that regular guests have. They can privately message other players or publicly speak to them in the forums. They can accuse anyone they wish, kill whatever players they would like, and even admit to their own crimes. At the end of the game, however it goes, they should move to the "Reveal forum" and explain their process for the other guests to see, and any clues that they missed that connected to the character.

    ALL GUESTS:
As stated above, all guests have the right to play multiple characters, accuse others of crimes, pretend to be the murderer, private message other players to try to team up or plot against each other, and set up their own scenes which could possibly lead to the death of another. A large part of the game is the deceit of others; being the last surviving guest makes it quite easy to spot the murderer.

All members also create the floor plan. Whoever enters a room first essentially describes it, but everyone is allowed to freely describe the scene around them. Furthermore, there is a secret passage to certain rooms, available on the map above.

And finally, it's the guests' job to acquire information and details from others. Everyone should willingly speak to one another and attempt to solve the murder, as a great deal of evidence can only be gained by cross-examining one another. They have free reign to lie as well. If there is a lack of evidence or information going around, then guests should attempt to speed up the process or allow a character to die by separating them from the group.

If, by any means, the rules are unclear, or if any members are at an impasse on how to proceed, please message an admin or moderator.
