Just a little ways east of Mistow, there is a small island academy specially designed to train the young adults of Betelgeuse in the art of combat. Once a person has turned sixteen years old, they are allowed to submit applications to the school in order to get the chance to attend the school, there is no age limit to the application process, so once they turn sixteen, they can continue applying until they die. Once their application is accepted, they’ll be brought to the school where they’ll receive an interview with the school’s headmaster. The interview will mostly revolve around why they want to attend the academy, what they plan to do when they’ve graduated, and what their biggests goals overall. If the headmaster finds that the student’s interview was acceptable, they will grant them a spot in the school. From there, the student will spend the next 4 years with their fellow students in order to sharpen their skills as a warrior. Most students join the military, others begin lucrative careers as mercenaries, some become city guards, others go on to become instructors at the academy.
There are four divisions to the school, students are expected to at least have an idea of which division would be best suited for them before they begin the interview. There is the Knights Division, they focus on training students for the military, though they also train students who focus mostly on their weapons combat skills. The next is the Royals Division, they focus solely on training students to become guards for the many cities in Betelgeuse, with some even making their way to the castle. Next up is the Capitals Division, they focus primarily on teaching students the arcane arts, they also teach students medicine and how to use magical weapons. Lastly, there’s the Chiefs Division, they are the more well rounded division. They do not put focus on any one form of combat and are often the choice division for aspiring mercenaries.
When the new year begins, the new students are brought to the main hall in the center of island and are given the same introductory speech and are assigned to a group of three other students as their partners for the remainder of their time in the academy. The four students will become partners for the remainder of the year, training, attend classes, and are even sent on missions together. More often than not, these students are from different divisions, they do this to give the students a bit of a nice balance, but there are times that they come the same divisions, as the picking process is entirely random. Though they do plenty of things together, the students reside with their division’s dorm, all on separate corners of the island. Though it has never happened, if war breaks out in Betelgeuse, students can and will be called out to war, however only second year students and beyond will be called out unless it’s an absolute emergency.
During the year, the students will also take part in small tournaments against other groups, earning or losing points depending on their performance in the tournament. The higher the place, the more the earn, however if they place near the bottom, they’ll lose points. By the end of each semester, the group with the most points will receive a special reward. Teams can opt to earn extra points by taking missions or by doing tasks around the island. At the end of the four years at the academy, and if the students have managed to earn at least 400 points, they will have graduated and be free to do as they please. Though the academy isn’t required, graduation often makes it a bit more pleasing for people to hire them, whether they’re going for the mercenary lifestyle or as a royal guard. Graduates will receive a special, golden dagger that proves they had graduated. Each dagger is engraved with their division and their name. They’ll also receive a badge made of gold and platinum, also with their division and name, proving they had graduated. If they fail to graduate, they’ll simply have to leave and apply for the university again.
The unnamed island is just a short distance east of Betelgeuse, while it's rather small, it has just enough room for the academy to have everything it needs. With a population of 104 students and 36 staff members, the island was specially designed to make sure they were comfortable during their stay. While the Academy is officially known as the Selena Rose Academy, it occasionally goes by the Seaside Academy as well.
Seaside Academy Main Hall: This is where the students go for classes and any assemblies. It's where they'll spend most of their time, there are 12 classrooms with twelve teachers in each one, including the headmaster. It is well known for its rose and tiger symbolism.
Medical Hall: North of the main hall, the medical hall is used to treat students who have been injured in battle or those who have fallen ill. It works like a standard hospital, though treatment is free.
Dining Hall: West of the main hall, this is where students eat. They receive breakfast, lunch, and dinner for free, but anything else will cost them. Meals are typically nutritious and healthy, but on special occasions, more unhealthy meals will be served.
Leisure Hall: East of the main hall, this is where students goof off. After classes and before lights out, they can come here to relax. It offers several pools and even a hot run along with a beautiful nature trail.
Battlegrounds: South of the main hall, this is where students will train for battle, occasionally tournaments will take place here. There are two battlefields on solid ground and one on water.
Dorms: On the four corners of the island, there are dorms belonging to the four divisions. Students will return here after curfew. The dorms are co-ed and students of separate divisions are not to allowed to enter the other dorms without permission. They also house the instructors.
