Well we'll need more than one Kingdom, so I thought I'd include the one I created for my character's backstory;
A small Kingdom nestled in a fertile land encircled by mountains, Terel'Liren is ancient and its traditions and customs have been upheld by thirty-four kings and queens. The only four routes into or out of the kingdom are located in passes at the cardinal points of the compass, each guarded by a fortress. Safe and secure behind their walls, the people of Terel'Liren gave themselves over to culture, the arts and the study of magic.
Many and famed are its mages and throughout the known world their pre-emminence in the mystic arts is unquestioned. The Kingdom itself relies heavily upon its mountainous borders for protection, for the Royal Army, though well-trained and equipped, is by far the smallest of the neighbouring Kingdoms and they can ill-afford to take heavy losses in prolonged warfare. Thus Terel'Liren relies on diplomacy, treaties and mutually beneficial trade to ensure its survival as much as it does on its mountain strongholds.
The inhabitants are unusual in that they are humanoid felines, gifted with inhuman agility and grace and long lives. Given to haughty superiority and aloofness, the people of Terel'Liren are seen by some as arrogant and pompous and the surrounding nations often cast covetous looks upon the territories of Terel'Liren, it would take but a push for some of these kingdoms to risk assailing the grim Citadels that guard Terel'Liren itself from invasion.
Kingdom Name: Terel'Liren; Kingdom of Magic
Ruler: King Erisad the Wise
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Inhabitants: Terelains; long-lived humanoid felines

looks cool! I made another one in the mean time, as well. Do you want me to subscribe your character Nathaniel to this realm, then?
If you would be s kind
He's actually the second son of the King and, for various reasons, the heir designate.
Oh, and I've edited it to include alignment and stuff too.

nice. you're enlisted as character :]
What size category is Terel'Liren? From what I read, it seems to be small.
Including the four fortresses that guard Terel'Liren's border passes, the kingdom possesses in total 18 cities, though most of these are relatively small in comparison to other kingdoms.
Terel'Liren itself is a small Kingdom, It might take only a few days to travel from one end to the other on horseback. I've got a crude-ish map which I'll try and upload to the map page when I can.

Greetings my Liege One of my characters just joined your Kingdom. So I'd love to chat about what role he might take, and get to know your concept better so that, hopefully, I can contribute. Where is best for you to chat?
Thanks for the offer Olthain, I might just take you up on that, here's a link to a picture of the map. The resizing made it kind of huge, but I hope it doesn't put you off.
As for Ben, thanks for showing an interest in Terel'Liren! I'm not sure about where to chat about it, wherever's good for me I think.

Oh, I like the map! I can be best reached on furc, skype, or in PMs here. Just so we don't flood the forums with it. Unless the admins want us to discuss on the forums? o:
Ben, if you're set on doing a 1x1, then feel free to use whatever way to discuss. if it's open, i'd rather you post here, so everyone gets the chance to join right in
terel, i'm on my psp and i can't see the link. could you send me the complete link in pm?

I meant general OOC chatter to develop some stuff. If RP happens I'm sure it would be open
We'll do that then, if only to prevent clutter on the forums.
I'm glad you like the map. Oberoth is the capital, the city of Amra in the west is sometimes called the City of Spires and it is here that most Terelain mages come to learn their arts.
As a bit of background, this link leads to a page on a wiki for a different RP site where I've listed the Six Bloodlines of the Terelain People, if anyone plans on making a Terelain character it might be useful in deciding what your character will actually do, since each Bloodline is taditionally more suited to different roles.
Terelain Bloodlines There are a few other pages on there about the Terelains, though some of it is outdated or altered slightly since I'd imported them into a sci-fi setting, but most of the rest of that stuff you don't really need to know. The Bloodlines aren't even necessary really, but it just adds an extra bit of flavour to characters.

I sent you a PM If you prefer, Narsuun on furc, or fearthefurryhats on skype.
The military ranks you sent me seem good, and the divisions within the military. I'm sure we can expand/improve on them as we go along.
Glad you like them. Feel free to cannibalize, change the names, etc etc. If you have a suggestion as to where my character might place best, awesome. Otherwise I'll give it some more thought. We were considering him having been captured by someone, but that would require the kingdom to be at war, or at least unfriendly, with another kingdom. So maybe that idea is out?
Not necessarily. Tere'Liren tries to maintain its neutrality, but that doesn't mean other kingdoms don't attack it or that it doesn't protect itsown interests. There's also the fact that Terel'Liren's army needs proper combat experience and not just the training they'd get during peacetime.
Perhaps part of their training involves mercenary work? A bit like work experience. Don't forget Terelains are long-lived and their training takes many years, so doing it actually wouldn't be all that far fetched for their soldiers-in-training to become mercs for a few years before joining the army as full-fledged soldiers.
Or maybe your character was the guard for an important diplomat or other oficial visiting a neighbouring kingdom but they were attacked, leading to the injury? It really depends on how old this injury is and what rank he was when he got it?

Could be that it was in conflict with the dark elf kingdom, when that gets sorted out. I think it would be cool to make it a pretty recent injury, so I can RP the recovery. Or at least part of it. If he was on the field he wouldn't be higher than Colonel. Maybe when he got catpured he was a battlemage captain, that way there's plenty of room for him to rise, I'm not starting out high in the ranks. He's got work to do.
Sounds good.
So, he was a Battlemage Captain who fought in a recent war with the Drow Kingdom and was injured after he was captured by Drow forces but managed to escape and return home.
