Callela, at its core, plays host to a fickle and precarious population. The fae are well-known by the humans and elves alike, and certainly not every interaction is one that is remembered fondly. In truth, a vast majority of exchanges came to a screeching halt in the wake of dastardly plans that left human pride in turmoil. The wrong humans burned one too many times resulted in the Vianden kingship declaring a law against Callela’s people all together.
In short, conspiring with any fae for any reaon became an act of coercion against humankind and as such subject to death.
“Let it be known:
Whosoever is caught fraternizing and conspiring with faefolk of any sort
shall hereby be sentenced to immediate and public death,”
the proclamation read in no uncertain terms.
But the humans’ King is certainly not known for his kindness or willingness to understand. He speaks only one language: despotism. Still, it does not keep the fae at bay, they merely become better at stealthing.
And one thing the fae do well is magic. Located true center within the magical waters of the Mylvadorei Lagoon, which settled between the two halves of the continent, the Betwixt was an unusual anomaly--invisible to the naked eye upon first glance. It was a meeting ground that could only be found by those of magical prowess, but it was a melting pot for all walks of life. Those who were not magically inclined could visit this den of transgressions if they had the appropriate connections, but such a treat was a rarity.
The Betwixt, in its darkness, is a stark contrast to the mystical beauty of the fae homeland. There are many openly cruel and problematic individuals housed within, and as such, a word of caution to visitors is always echoed throughout.
Be ever vigilant and mindful of your senses and your surroundings.
What is seen within the Betwixt cannot (and should not) always be trusted. Visitors have been known to lose more than just their worldly possessions. Lives are equally at stake.
This is the risk you take upon entry to the Betwixt. Consider yourself warned.
