Fableborough

It's the year 1880. Coal is popular for providing jobs, providing warmth and powering locomotives. Photographs take a long time. Electricity exists, but isn't yet commonplace- and is a novelty only the rich currently enjoy.

It's been more than a century since the gates to the Faerie Realm opened and all of the Seelie and Unseelie courts spilled into our world. No one knows what happened in the Faerie Realm, no one knows why the gates sealed shut behind them, no one knows where the High Fae are, or why they appear to be no longer looking after their subjects. What is known, is that the world's population has doubled. Magical beings of every kind are fighting for a place in the new world, fighting for a home and a job and food- which more often than not seems to be human kind itself. This prevents a unique and overwhelming situation for human governments.

Some countries have exterminated the Fae within their borders, others turned them out entirely. And some, it seems, are desperate for coexistence, something a majority of the human population believes to be impossible. In an effort at humane treatment for the 'fae' problem, the allied countries of Europe, alongwith the United States, have developed entire cities for the Faery kind in hopes of creating an environment. Calling these places 'Fableboroughs' the name quickly becomes synonymous with the impoverished fae folk who are either too kind, or too powerless do anything more than comply. In the outskirts and the as yet, untamed forests of these countries, Fae are gathering- and whispers of war are on the wind of an uprising. A chance for the Fae to take back the world they've too long been denied..

So who will you be? A benevolent Fae of Seelie Nobility? A mischievous pixie? A bloodthirsty nightmare from the Unseelie? One of Elven kindreds, the Fawns, the mysterious Sylph? Or one of the desperate humans trying to make sense of the chaos unleashed upon their country?

Enter a Victorian Era Fairytale- where Fae and Human kind attempt to coexist.

Fableborough is a world styled to play on the folklore we know and treating it as historical fact, rather than belief. Because of this, it is a highly inclusive environment and open to an abundance of creativity and originality from every culture spanning the globe.

Enjoyment and *ease* of play have a major focus in this group. Chances are you already have some knowledge of the Victorian Era either from school, books or movies. Chances are even greater, that you have knowledge of the various fairytale creatures in your culture and/or country. This means you likely already know everything you need to know, in order to join and enjoy writing here.

Nothing in our world is so specific that it becomes an encumbrance or possible cause of anxiety when building your character or writing their story. So long as you stay within the lines of your race's abilities and the Victorian time period, you will not 'ruin' anything even should you post something that breaks with continuity. The story can handle an occasional bump. Bumps, in my experience, tend to produce the most memorable events.

Fableborough is not a place for strict adherence to rules or expectations. It's creator understands the complications of real life and a real need for an escape where you can cut loose, let your imagination run wild, and not feel like by doing so- you are stepping on anyone's toes. So feel free to bring everything you have to offer as a writer to the table and develop a plot you will truly enjoy creating!
