Building A Character

  • Building a character is quite simple within Fableborough. Most fairytale characters from every culture will be accepted, which leaves you with an incredibly vast array of creatures to choose from. Should you choose to play a human in this setting- that also will be fairly straightforward.

If you would like to play a character of special significance to the plot(A major human government official, or an Uprising or Borough leader) please message Selkieborn to discuss your ideas so we can accommodate you. We are currently open for all such roles.

All countries are represented in one way or another in Fableborough, though our primary focus will be centered around North America, the British Isles(including Ireland) and Western Europe. It is suggested that knowing this, you select a region or culture, choose your fairytale creature, and begin from there. Be assured that upon your application, if the moderator is not familiar with the creature chosen, a full search will be done in order to understand your character's origins. (Be aware that should moderators not be able to ascertain it's country and culture of origin, your character may be denied for story continuity reasons. This is a fairytale setting, but we are playing off of established myth and legend, not making everything up entirely. The good news is, having said that, this is pretty much our only strict criteria for playing in Fableborough!)

Please read on for brief examples of available species, though they are by no means the only species you can choose from. (Important note: If you choose a race not listed on this page- you will still need to answer the same questions about your chosen race when applying.)
  • The Humans

Ranging in height anywhere from 3 feet(if a child or diagnosed with a genetic disability) to almost 7 feet, humans are the main denizens of the world in which Fableborough takes place. It is the Victorian Era, and many things about the world and human civilization at large, are familiar. It is a patriarchal society, though Queen Victoria sits firmly still upon her throne in England. Women wear dresses, men wear pants and societal expectations have never been higher, nor seedy vices and the criminal element more wanton and prevalent.

If you wish to play a human, you will need to set their race according to their country of origin, their occupation according to what was acceptable at that time, and their form of dress according to their wealth and status in society.

You also have a wide array of options- you can be anything from a Roma card reader in your caravan traveling across England, a poor immigrant newly arrived to the Americas, or even a mayor of one of the cities containing a faery borough. The choice is yours. If you have questions about a more customized role in Fableborough's urban fantasy setting- read the 'employment' section on the Culture and Society page.
