  • The Purge of the Realm

In the year 1778, in the thick of the Revolutionary War between Great Britain and the Colonies, upon the field of battle, a huge ripping sound was heard and as the canon fire died a fiery light spilled out of the tear and with it- thousands of bodies. All over the world events such as this one were described. The Faery World had been purged. Why, none of the Fae knew, only that the portal was gone and there would be no going back.

What followed was a desperate and dangerous kind of immigration. Fae of all kinds, now displaced, sought a home and means of income among the human folk. It was complicated, messy and many times fatal to both sides. And as the revolution ended, a new kind of hostilities and tyranny emerged, one of the dominion of Man.

In Asia, the fae kind were eradicated. The genocide was ruthless, some few fleeing West...and even fewer surviving the journey.

In Russia, the fae were expunged entirely, every magical being forcibly removed from their borders. Even Baba Yaga was made to leave...and as rumor tells...currently makes her way West...

In Eastern Europe, the Fae are dangerous, murderous and something to be feared in the never ending dark forests and remote mountains. A new kind of Dark Age has emerged, with 'witch hunters' and 'monster hunters' returning to prevalence in occupations once more.

In Western Europe and the British Isles, the Fae were considered benevolent and venerated for a time for their beauty...before their lack of adherence to 'civilized' society and cultural norms rendered them a 'drain on society' and the answer to the Fae problem was developed. Forced into boroughs with strict laws and curfews, the veneration of faery kind and fairytales in general, ended with high stone walls and wrought iron gates.

In the America's where societal norms had only just begun to form, expectations were a little more lax and such creatures were offered a great deal more freedom and acceptance than anywhere else in the world for nearly half a century. But eventually tolerance began to wane, and prejudices began to build over differences as they had for every other culture or people. Soon enough they were forced into boroughs as they had been in Europe, new rules set in place, and life became a great deal less idyllic.
  • The Fableboroughs

ziQqPOhh_o.pngThe answer to the "Fae Problem" was to build large neighborhoods on the outskirts of major cities. Made of stone and iron, the idea was to limit the power and status of Faery kind, to further assist the assimilation into human society.

'Kill the Faery, save the man' they said. It was a sentiment doomed for repetition.

The Boroughs were without paved streets save for the one outside of Paris, filled with rowbuildings to better facilitate close quartered habitation, and such housing was pushed to it's limit with no fewer than 2 or 3 Fae families in every townhome.
