New Players

  • This is a quick-help guide for those new to the group and looking to create a character.

So you have a character concept! Not sure if they fit? Not sure where to start? Here is a brief rundown of what you can play and how to get involved, without getting too deep into the setting just yet.

  • Choosing an Origin

If you're a bit stumped about how to get involved, there are a few possible ways to go with origin stories. If you already have a character-concept and race in mind, reading over this section might help in implementing them.

Choosing an origin first gives you an idea of what races you're limited to, and how they can be implemented. Of course there's really no limit to what you can play, as long as you can make it fit.

"Natives of the Mobius Strip Galaxy. Built in-house, a member of a native race, or descended from New Arrivals."

The MSG is all your character's ever known. They've never been anywhere else. There are several core MSG races to choose from; if those don't suit your fancy, you can consider submitting your own.

    ➾ Core Races

Here you will find a quick summary of the core races of the MSG. For more information, head here.

♢ Humans - Descended from New Arrivals, having settled several planets and satellites in the Mobius.
♢ Androids - Built by a company in Mobius, the majority coming from Alpha-Corp.
♢ Cyborgs - Not so much its own "race" as an augmented member of existing organics.

    ➾ Player-Submitted Races

With an entire galaxy to play with, there are numerous races that haven't even been encountered. If none of the Core Races appeal to you, but you would still like to play a Native, consider submitting your own!

"Brand new to the MSG, having tumbled through the Delta Wormhole and landed in or around Abbadon."

New Arrivals come through the Delta Wormhole and land on the planet Abbadon. With its inhospitable weather, prominently CO2 atmosphere, and overly friendly sandworms, very few survive without assistance or proper gear. But you are one of the lucky ones!

    ➾ In-Tact Survivor

Congratulations, you made it! Perhaps even relatively unscathed! Maybe you came through in a ship and managed a very bumpy landing. There are a few communities and peoples living on Abbadon willing to rescue New Arrivals before they succumb to the elements--which you will without an environmental suit at the very least.

One such group is the mysterious Sidewinders, a gang vehemently against the work of Alpha, another organization that periodically steps in to 'rescue' New Arrivals. The Sidewinders make it their duty to pick up strays first!

    ➾ Reconstituted Android

Courtesy of Alpha Corp! On their own dime, the company sends units to scan the sands of Abbadon for newly-landed New Arrivals who are dead or dying. They scan their minds and create a SIM, a Substrate Independent Mind, and then recreate the New Arrival's body in the form of a mechanical android. Absolutely life-like on the outside, cold metal and wires on the inside.

The SIM is imported into the android's cortex, with memories right up to their arrival on Abbadon. These androids are complete in every way--or as complete as Alpha can make them, with the remains they collect. They (outwardly) perfectly resemble how they did in life, but inside they are a mass of wires and circuits.

These androids are released back onto Abbadon, often dropped onto Hab-Pods or released from Alpha centres. They're given a badge, registering them as a citizen with the GalFed. Every bionics specialist worth their salt knows how to work on an Alpha-Droid.

"Former residents of Blackout, either voluntarily or otherwise, who were liberated during its downfall."

During the Whiteout plot, seeing the fall of the notorious Lux stronghold, Blackout, former guards and agents of the terrorist group turned on their leaders and helped free hundreds of aliens and androids being held captive.

Together they destroyed Blackout and took down its orbiting starship, the Beholder, before fleeing and evacuating to safety. Many from both sides settled in New Haven, the lone city of the Independent Government of Tytonidias.

    ➾ Former Blackout Guard

You were once a member of the terrorist group Lux Aeterna, serving on the 'Blackout' satellite. But during the events of Whiteout you were given a choice: Rebel against Doctor Weiss, who ran the facility. Risk life and limb to leave Lux Aeterna, and start a new life, knowing that you will forever be hunted by Lux for turning on the doctrine...

Blackout Guards are restricted to only Human characters, as Lux Aeterna is a human-supremacist terrorist group. Perhaps your character is struggling to overcome their prejudices, having only joined the Whiteout rebellion to stay alive. Perhaps they've been questioning it for a while now, or were forced to sign up with Blackout and Lux Aeterna against their will in the first place.

    ➾ Former Alien Captive

A liberated captive can still have a previous backstory as a New Arrival or a Native, and thus have no real race-restrictions other than 'not human'.

Your character was freed during the events of Whiteout, that saw the fall of the 'Blackout' satellite, a notorious Lux construction used to house captured aliens and androids. Alien prisoners were often tortured, experimented upon, or sold into slavery. But now you're free--rescues were initially taken to New Haven, on Tytonidias, but the rescue took place several months ago now, and you are by no means obliged to stay.

    ➾ Reconstructed Demolition Derby Android

The character must be an android in this case. Blackout was notorious for its 'Demolition Derby', an event that drew like-minded humans to take bets on which scrap of metal lasted the longest in the ring. Destroyed androids were unceremoniously swept into the trash compactor. But recently sympathizing Blackout guards started collecting the remains, leading up to the rebellion. The massive 'stash' was eventually passed on to Bionics Specialist Dr. Cecille Gadhavi in hopes of reconstructing them.

    Gadhavi...
Doctor Gadhavi is a human cyberneticist that came aboard the Beholder just a few months before the Whiteout rebellion. Their rumoured lack of allegiance to Lux was well-known amongst the crew, and their true reason for having been brought aboard was kept secret by Doctor Weiss. Reconstructed androids may remember them attending the Demolition Derbies at Weiss' right hand.

Androids reconstructed by Doctor Gadhavi do not have a set appearance. As they had a life previous to Blackout, there are no restrictions on the type of android they are. Alpha-Droid, or Mobius native, humanoid or non. The doctor will attempt to bring their central cortex online first in order to communicate and collaborate in their reconstruction.

Whether a reconstructed android remembers their history is up to the player. They can recall their entire life previous to Blackout, the horrors of the satellite, their destruction. Or perhaps their central cortex was so heavily damaged they awake a blank slate, remembering nothing at all--flashes at best.
