  • Overview

    9cyVW1H.jpg

The name of the galaxy comes (once one is able to step back and take a look at the whole) from the unique structure of it. Not one spiral galaxy--but two, caught in a slow-motion collision course with each other. Not apparent on the tiny scale of individual star systems, but notable to astrophysicists, who carefully noted the inconsistent trajectory of the stars. Two galaxies, two super-massive black holes at either centre. In time they would likely become one--or smash apart. The resulting structure is a figure-eight, vaguely resembling a twisted infinity.

Located in the farther reaches of the known expanse, cusping the edge of the inevitable heat-death of the universe, the Mobius Strip Galaxy is isolated, and near impossible to leave. Even if one could, they would be travelling for millennia to reach the next closest neighbour.
  • Quadrants & Sectors

    Binary Galaxy

Mobius is in fact made up of two interacting galaxies, often designated Mobius-A and Mobius-B. The majority of explored space resides in Mobius-A, which is further divided into four 'Quadrants'.

    Quadrants

    ♢ Alpha Quadrant
    ♢ Beta Quadrant
    ♢ Gamma Quadrant
    ♢ Delta Quadrant

The quadrants were designated depending on general mass and density of star formation regions, of which Alpha shows the greatest potential. However, the majority of explored space--including most of the Galaxy Federation--is located in the Delta Quadrant. Explored space further spills out into the bordering Alpha Quadrant, where neighbouring Nations exist.

    Sectors

The explored Quadrants are further broken down into 'Sectors', for ease of navigation. These are commonly named after astronomical bodies of notable significance, such as hazardous Black Holes or in the case of the 'Delta Sector' (located in the Delta Quadrant), named after the 'Delta Wormhole' responsible for bringing many new residents to Mobius.

    Legal Territories

Unrelated to sectors and quadrants, governments such as the Galaxy Federation draw out their legal boundaries. These can include many sectors--or half sectors.
  • Delta Wormhole

ETG7Y6W.pngLocated in the aptly-named Delta Sector, the Delta Wormhole is a semi-stable Einstein-Rosen Bridge in orbit around Abbadon.
An Einstein-Rosen Bridge, often called a 'wormhole tunnel' or just a 'wormhole', is a structure that bends spacetime to connect two points along a 3D plain of space regardless of distance.

While the exit remains stationary, the entrance of the wormhole slides across space, jumping between various galaxies. It is too unstable to remain in one place long, and varies in size, either able to pick up only a few people at a time (perhaps a chunk of their surroundings), or up to spaceships full.

However astrophysicists theorize that it was, at one point, much larger.

The Delta Wormhole picks up individuals from various distant galaxies (including the Milky Way), depositing them instantaneously either on Abbadon's surface or in (a quickly decaying) orbit. Depending on the circumstances of their arrival, many New Arrivals do not live long, either caught in the vacuum of space or unable to breath the rich CO2 atmosphere of Abbadon.

    * Because the galaxy is so distant and isolated, there is no reliable way to reach Mobius. Conventional travel simply isn't possible, and those that came through the wormhole are trapped.
  • Citizenship, Badge/IP & P.A.N.

'Badges' or 'Identification Protocols' are legal identifiers that are carried on one's person at all times. They wirelessly broadcast your encrypted identification information. Varying levels of the encryption can be read by certain people: shop owners when you make a purchase, obtaining surface information such as your name and payment information. To Peacekeepers and security drones, who are able to access your criminal record (depending on their own clearance).

Badges/IPs are required in most public GalFed-controlled areas, and are used to make all legal purchases. They are your SIN, your SSN, and your Driver's License all in one, containing any credentials or licenses you may hold. Those caught without one can be arrested and held, depending on where you are.

  • Government

    h4it4B2.png

The main Nation active in the MSG is the Galaxy Federation. WIP, more details here. There are other Nations that share borders with the GalFed, including the Haietlik and the Edasichians.

  • Military & Policeforce

Detailed here, with the hiearchy further detailed in this thread.

  • Time

Because time is calculated relative to the planet and star system, and time itself is just relative, depending on the speed at which one is travelling at, a standardized system was required in order to convert between and take into account the complex physics of time dilation inherit in space-travel.

'Galactic Standard' is what is used most relatively, measured in Cycles. For continuity and simplicity's sake, the date mirrors current-day's.

GSD: XX19/11/01, 2019 November 1st. Or any variation thereof.
  • Currency

Although individual planets, governments, even sectors may use their own internal monetary systems, the Mobius Standard Credit (MSC) is the accepted galaxy-wide currency. Known colloquially as a 'credit', for ease of understanding (and to spite our single British player), one credit is roughly equivalent to $1USD.

♢ Many people deal under the table with old-school credsticks to avoid this
