Demos is nothing but a terrorist organization hellbent on circumventing the Galaxy Federations expansion efforts in the Beta Quadrant. They are known for attacking merchant vessels, injuring and killing Federation deep space crews, and the theft of countless tons of irreplaceable supplies bound for the outer reaches and little known colonies.

There is no documentation of the famine and subsequent horror that happened on Galaxy Federation Colony Nebos V, but it's where Demos's story begins. Lukas and Alec grew up during the famine, when a fungus destroyed most of the self-sustaining colony's food supply. The Federation-appointed Governor claimed that he sent out an SOS on the proper emergency channels, but time progressed with no rescue in sight. One by one, colonists turned on one another for the measly scraps of food that remained. A kill or be killed mentality was adopted and people scattered with what provisions they could. By the time relief and aid were directed towards Nebos V, the majority of the colony had either starved to death or been killed. The remaining colonists were further enraged when they came to learn that the Governor had stockpiles of food within his compound. Enough, in fact, to be able to feed a significant percentage of the population which had starved. The survivors revolted as the Governor was led to the rescue ship and the situation escalated until the survivors turned militant and attacked the Federation relief crew. In the end, only a small number of the survivors were able to be escorted onto the vessel. There was never any news about Nebos V, nor accountability on the side of the Governor who was freed without punishment. In light of such an immense failure on the Federation's part, Lukas and Alec started Demos--whose sole purpose is to prevent another disaster such as Nebos V's and to ensure that the outlying colonies are not forgotten. In order to do this, they commandeer Federation merchant vessels and distribute their supplies to the colonies in need of them--including those that outright oppose the Federation or otherwise seek to separate themselves to form their own government.
Aspects of this story are inspired by Star Trek TOS.
