Kaelee Knodel
Whenever the Hummingbird had its doors locked with the ominous ‘CLOSED’ sign hanging over it, people knew that something happened—something bad enough for the little noodle chef to disappear. The fact raised a lot of questions and rumors circulating New Haven: did Kaelee get kidnapped again? Did her father come back from his literal black hole grave as an android? So many juicy possibilities… at least with the former, the rumor mill wasn’t terribly far off. Kae hadn’t been taken, but her son had. A perfectly legitimate reason to close her doors for two weeks straight. It was this and much more drama that Kaelee had to endure. Her sisters would say it’s become the norm.

When the chef herself returned, it was with a bit of a bang. She was hosting a ramen noodle eating contest. The information provided can be seen on a sign outside. It read, *’This week only! Whosoever eats the most of the Bushcat Special wins a prize: a gift basket full of fun ramen themed goodies and a FREE three day round trip vacation to Sorashi. If you want to join, sign up inside. There is a ten credit admission fee.’ Needless to say, patrons clamored to get inside to sign up for the contest. Ten credits for endless free food! What a deal!

What made the Hummingbird special is that it was not just any old restaurant, it was located inside a spaceship parked in New Haven. It was also the home for Kaelee herself, and her crew, two women and one badger child whom could some times be seen roaming and plucking up a bowl whenever it struck their fancy. There were benefits to having a crew mate who knew how to cook.

Nestled in a wide space that once contained cargo, it had long since been transformed into a fully functioning establishment. Booths lined the walls with portholes facing out, tables fixated neatly along the floor, and a noodle bar where the chef herself mixed drinks and served hot and steaming ramen noodles, all the while wearing her apron and best smile.

“Alright, folks, if you signed up for the contest, please join me at the bar! I’ll be dishin’ out the Bushcat Special in just a few moments!”

Z’a’k’iya felt their stomach rumbling as they left that bar. A little tipsy they walk down new haven finding a place to eat. They shuffled slowly to hide their tipsiness; their intimidating stature keeping most people at a safe distance. They trudged towards the the ship. Looking down at the sign, and if on cue their stomach growled once more.

Guess they found a spot to eat. All-you-can-eat-ramen sounded real good right about then. Though they didn't care much about the prizes, only to fill their empty stomach. They make their way up to the counter and slid over the money to join before silently going to take their place in the contest. Their tail flicking behind them in excitement to get some food.

Z’a’k’iya certainly came to the right place at the right time! As the patrons filed up to their respective seats at the bar, the noodle chef herself proceeded to dish out the Bushcat Special. It was generic-looking ramen; even so it still smelled spectacular. In place of beef was a peculiar kind of meat, completely alien to those not human.

Kaelee saw the last one to come in, and gave her best smile. “Ah, hello there! I don’t recognize you…” Recognize? Perhaps the noodle chef was well acquainted with her other patrons. “Come on in, take a load off. You joining in?” Kae watched as the unique xeno paid for their entry. “Thanks! Here you go.” She slid a steaming, fresh bowl at Z’a’k’iya. There was a choice of chopsticks, spoons, or forks. “Good luck!” The girl winked and smiled real big, as she does

“Alright folks, you have thirty minutes! Whoever finishes the most bowls wins! Everybody ready? My staff?” Kae glanced back into the open window to the kitchen where she had extra help. They gave their thumbs up.

“Alright, folks. Get ready. Three… two… one… GO!” Kae pushed a button on her cuff link where holographic numbers popped up and started counting down…

Z'a'k'iya'
Z'a'k'iya was so hungry they procede to quickly grab a fork to slurp as many noodles as possible. They're going at a slower pace than usual; they're still tipsy from the four drinks they had only 20 minutes before. Though the more they eat the faster they go as they begin to stack bowls. Lifting the bowl to their face before tapping for another one.

First they weren't trying to be competitive. Though with the cheering voices ; they find themselves eating faster to try to beat everyone else in the room.
