The Nexus

  • The Nexal World

The actual planet which houses the Nexus Tower still has one true name, Ianua, but honestly each race that passes through it probably has their own name for it, in their own tongue. The one constant is the Nexus Tower itself, known to all who pass through it.

The Tower was created eons ago by a group of high-powered wizards, the like of which has not been seen for centuries. It took their lives and their mana to create the portal-capable spire and to this day the tower is a hub of worlds. Each portal located in the Tower's rooms is built into an arched gate which reflects the world to which it leads the jumper. The only way to get back to the Nexus, however, is to use a jump device which can be purchased within the tower, or to have the innate ability to create portals. This way, normal humans or other creatures can continue to use the Nexus without aid. Portals are created every time a person from another realm hops into the Nexal world. It is a mystery to most how the arches pop up in the Tower, but not so to the Tower's Guardians and Corwin Riata, the Tower's current wizard.

Throughout the Tower blue intangible creatures can be found; these are the Tower's Guardians. They are creatures of pure mana and usually want nothing to do with outsiders, less they be threatening the Tower or its portals. The Guardians can act as guides to new jumpers as well as informational units. They do not possess true bodies, but can form their gaseous blue selves into whatever they so please. The only being able to control these Guardians is the Tower's current Wizard: Corwin. The Wizard is somewhat mysterious and resides in the very top of the tower, in a room with no doors. He does not meddle in the affairs of those who use his portals, but rest assured he knows every single person who passes through them, whether their intentions be good, or malevolent.

The physical layout of the tower is relatively simple: It is comprised of one spiral structure with a larger base. Covered in ornate designs from floor to roof, the stone building is a sight in itself before one enters. From bottom up the Tower contains a ground floor which houses a small market for travelers and a circular disc which acts as an elevator with no shaft or cables. From this floor until the perceived roof are level after level of portal archways. There are more than one archway per room per level, but the proper amount is indeterminable with the constant creation of them from different realms. It is safe to say, however, that the Tower will never run out of space, as it is magicked to grow imperceptibly which each acquisition.

The Elevating Disc acts as a free service; it does not take someone to operate and it does not need complex commands. One simple steps upon it and speaks their archway, or floor number and the disc will comply. Unless, of course you ask to be brought to Corwin's office. He will need to give the disc express permission and the jumper will need to be prepared, as the disc will continue to rise to the tops of the Tower. As it reaches the ceiling it will not slow down, but to all the world look like it is going to crush it's riders. That is, until that rider realizes the ceiling is merely and illusion and they are able to pass through without harm.

Over all, the Nexus Tower is almost like a living creature in itself. The Guardians constantly keep maintenance on the building as well as the portals. If the portals go cold, they are removed, or replaced. The Tower also provides a myriad of adventures for it's users; no world is kept from them.
  • Rules

There are not many rules to the Nexus, but the few that we have are thus:

-No God Moding; All characters which play in the Nexus are equally important as all others. It is not fair for one character to be over-powered to the point where they alienate other players.

-All players must adhere to the workings of the Tower: They cannot control archways, the Guardians, nor port in or out of the World without ending up in the Tower.

-Consent: If your character is going to commit a detrimental act to the world, or it's inhabitants (especially if they are other player characters) one must obtain consent from a Group Moderator, as well as the other characters.

-IC/OOC: Please use the designated forums correctly. There should be no Out of Character posts on the Roleplay board unless they are in game and separated by double parenthesis. ((Like so))

If any user is still unclear on any points in the rules, feel free to contact a Group Moderator with your questions at any time.
