Luciano grumped as his hands picked their way through a rack of clothing. This was his third store at the mall -a place he didn't go to often anymore- and he was slowly remembering why he avoided them in the first place. As much as he adored to shop, he was more of a tailor and boutique kind of man. However, this was an emergency. He *needed* a new white dress shirt and couldn't for the life of him seem to find a decent one! Sure his arm had plenty of other shirts draped across it, but none of them were white, and none of them were what he *needed.* He tutted as he pulled one off the rack to inspect. The material was far too course, who the hell decided on this fabric anyway?
Today was the day! What better way to celebrate a successful work week than treating yourself to some new shoes! Well, this is what Caroline was thinking anyway as she hovered down the isles of the mall. For the most part, she was unseen, her demonic "glamour" rendering her invisible to humans who didn't expect to see a floating humanoid iguana.
She had made a lot of stops but she wasn't exactly finding that perfect something. Spotting a small outfit she figured she'd explore, human fashion was exotic enough and she was in no rush.
The lizard found herself in a day dream, floating carelessly through the store, picking at this fabric and that, when her hand collided with someones. Her initial reaction was to recoil, but her eyes widened with splendor at the sight before her.
This man's outfit was Chic!

Luciano yelped in surprise. Phoenixes were an easily startled bunch. When he saw the green beauty in front of him, however, his initial shock turned to awe.
"My goodness, I'm so sorry, but that IS an exquisite shade of green!" he exclaimed. He noticed that she had been floating. He was used to monstri of one form or another but she was eccentric even for him! What a delight.
He looked about and realized that nobody else was surprised to see her at all. In fact, everyone was looking right past her. "Forgive me for intruding on your invisibility, madame" he gave her a short bow, and stepped back to give her space to peruse.

"Oh! It's no problem at all!" The lizard couldn't help but Crack a small smile as she examined the man before her. "I absolutely LOVE your look! What designer is it??" She did a slow spin around him, doing all she could to not be rude and touch the very fabric on his shoulders. She was so enamored by his lithograph she compleatly skipped over the fact that he could see her!
The tattooed man blinked up at her in surprise. "What, this old thing?" He pulled at the vest and looked down at himself. "A little thing I put back together cheaply. Inspired by John Varvatos, of course. Thank god for copycats." He extended his hand out to her, daintily. "Forgive me but I must know your name! I'm Segnore Fenice, but you can call me Luciano" he flashed her a most winning smile.
Caroline let out a girlish sounding giggle as she took the man's hand, giving it a light shake. "Caroline. It's a pleasure to meet you Luciano." The lizard floated around the man, an inquisitive look plastered in her face.
"Forgive me for sounding blunt, but may I ask where you're from? You're not all human are you? Most humans can't see me when I travel topside."

He grinned, as if at an inside joke. "It seems the more obvious I am, the less people know" he tapped the tattoo of a phoenix on his cheek. "I'm half phoenix. Mother was a Titan, father an unsuspecting human. Your glamor is very impressive, though. I almost didn't see you. Alas, I'm too flamboyant to let such a beauty pass by my eye unnoticed" he added with a wink. "Top side?" he asked.
Caroline's eyed widened in wonderment. She'd heard of Phoenix's in ledgand and stories but never had met one I person! She was quite delited indeed! "Oh! I've never met a phoenix before." She smiled and swatted the air bashfully at his compliment. "Oh, you're too kind!" She let out a girlish giggle and placed her hands on her knees.
"Oh, forgive me, 'topside' is a nickname Hellspawn use for the mortal plane; Earth, to be more precice."
"Oh, forgive me, 'topside' is a nickname Hellspawn use for the mortal plane; Earth, to be more precice."
It was Luciano's turn to widen his eyes. "Hellspawn? I always imagined you all to look a bit more....erm" He coughed awkwardly, hoping he didn't insult Caroline with his prejudice "...well nevermind. Clearly I'm living on the wrong plane." He looked around at the store they were in. "Speaking of planes of existence, this place is going to send me to the next. Far too drab. What do you say we ditch knock off brands, be utterly irresponsible and go to a real clothing store. There's a dress I know of with your name for it. I haven't the figure for it and quite frankly you're the first lady I've met who could do that work of art justice." His red eyes brightened at the prospect.
Caroline wasn't phased by the remark on her looks. To be perfectly honest she had expected phoenix's to look much different as well, but there was no use mentioning it. Luciano was preposing a most excellent fashion forward plan and Caroline could feel her long lizardlike tail wagging with excitement.
"There is no way I could resist!" She nearly had a sparkle in her eyes as she spoke. "What designer are you thinking of?? --wait!! Don't tell me! I want to be surprised!" She squealed feminetly and clasped her hands together, already declaring this phoenix good company in her mind.
She letLuciano lead the way, ceeping pace by floating along beside him. "May I ask where you're from Senior Luciano?"

"My lady, you do me a great honor" Luciano beamed. He folded his pile of clothes over the rack and left the store. A lady raised her eyebrow as he spoke. She wasn't sure if he was talking to himself or to her. She looked awkwardly around after he left, blushing slightly and shuffled over to the next rack of clothing, feeling silly for even thinking he'd talk to her.
"My family is from Pompeii, originally. I spent some time in England but have spent most of my adult life here. Is the underworld geographically divided up as well? Do you have, for example, demons who specifically roam Austria, for example?"

Caroline listened intently as Luciano spoke, her hands pressed against her knees as if she were leaning down to reach eyelevel with someone much shorter. Though, instead of leaning, she was floating along with his walking pace.
The question was asked and Caroline seemed to perk up, raising a painted pointer finger to her bottom lip in thiught. "Hmmm. There are some who prefer other topside locations, yes. I happen to like the city areas because it has the best fashion. Buut, when it comes down to jobs it's more where the souls are then actual location....if that makes any sense."
She said this all very matter-of-factly, not even stopping to think that speaking about souls in such a way might be weird to someone not from Hell.

"Ah! I see! You must not see many Phoenixes then. Our souls never make it to downside. We have the whole fire and brimstone thing built in" he chuckled. "So what do you do, exactly? I'm sure a Demon's occupations are varied and numerous" he continued.
Thankfully, the shop he had in mind wasn't too far a walk from the mall. He too, preferred cities, as they tended to attract more colorful people. Though in this case, literally, more colorful.

"I'm a poltergeist. I pretty much direct hauntings and scare the pants off humans until one of them cracks and agrees to sell their soul to make it stop." She grinned, though the context of her speak may have made it seem a little eerie. "My girlfriend is the one that bids on and collects souls...so we're kind of a little business team as well." She couldn't help but give a girlish wiggle while mentioning her girlfriend, but her attention was soon drawn to a fantastick window display before her!
"Ohhh!! Is this the place you had in mind???"
"Ohhh!! Is this the place you had in mind???"
"This is it!" Luciano beamed, and opened the door for her to float through.
The boutique was small and a touch dusty. Splendid dresses sat patiently on display in the champagne colored waiting area that had couches and various catalogues from independent designers form far away places. Everything was arranged just so. It felt more like a living room than a clothing store, really. There was a second room beyond, that was equally small and had more racks of clothes. Every article of clothing seemed to be unique, as if it was waiting for just the right person to come and try it on. There were some stairs to the right that led up to what was probably the office.
The door bell chimed as it closed behind them.
"I'll be with you in just a moment pet!" sang a voice from upstairs. Luciano put his hands in his pockets and looked around, a smug expression on his face.
