The mob has strong ties to the city and a lot of the goings on or lack thereof is related directly to this. There have been many attempts to find out who the mob boss is, but the only definite is that the leader is a mysterious man made of shadows. The casino, while legitimate, may be a front for nefarious dealings. Most people who seek to discover his identity do not return in one piece.
There is a black market for illicit drugs. It is rumored that a shape-shifter is the figurehead, and that you don’t find it, it finds you. Ask enough questions to the right people and you’ll get what you need, considering all street drugs (including marijuana) are illegal.
There is a booming market for underground fighters if you know where to look. Questions to the right people open all sorts of doors and get you into places you didn’t think existed. This ring may or may not be run by the mob.
No one goes out into the fog. The fog has a schedule, as strange as that seems. The fog is so regular that the city has set up an advance warning system to alert citizens, travelers and shop owners to close up shop before 5 PM and to get home no later than 5:45 PM. Street lights remain on during the fog and emergency vehicles responding to called in emergencies do not seem to be affected by the fog. There is a broadcast that goes out over every electronic and mobile device when the sirens sound, reminding citizens of the impending danger.
It is rumored that the fog is alive. People who enter the fog are not heard from again. The very lucky few who have survived brief encounters of the fog come out of it with severe wounds, mentally, physically or both. They are never able to describe exactly what “it” was in the fog. It is assumed to be a corporeal manifestation of some sort. People who are taken by the fog are usually noted by a suspicious red smudge wherever they were, assumed to be blood. The Police never confirm nor deny that it was blood. There is a high demand for businesses specializing in fog insulation.
Bodies are not found. If you are taken by the fog, no trace of you is found elsewhere. There have been no reported (public) cases of remains being located.
The city strictly polices supernaturals and they are kept under close watch. The more dangerous the city believes you to be, the more closely you are watched, some requiring to live in special facilities. You usually will not see “altered” creatures freely walking in public (such as weres or vampires), unless they are in designated lawful areas (such as entity specific buildings, gathering places, hospitals, some governmental buildings, etc.)
Although the Blockton tunnels are no longer claimed by the city itself, officials preferring it be entirely forgotten, there are numerous events that happen deep underground in the abandoned tunnels. Entering the tunnels is dangerous and is done at your own risk. Emergency services will not be able to respond to emergencies in the tunnels.
The subway tunnels collapsed two decades ago, killing a horrific amount of civilians and rather than the city rebuild from the wreckage, they abandoned it in the shady party of the city that is being taken back over by nature. You can on rare occasion still find the bones of the deceased.
The Ridley house, otherwise known as ‘The Hell House’ exists but city officials have erased its exact locations entirely from maps to prevent people from going there. The Hell House, to those few brave enough to adventure there and live, claim to have felt breath on their shoulders and seen a horrifically tall, mangled being lingering in the corners like static in a television. Those who venture into the Ridley house find that there is no cellphone communication. Emergency services are unavailable for those within the Ridley house.
The Hell House is a nexus for unusual paranormal activity, actively recorded with no scientific explanation of its origin. GPS coordinates, cell service and other electrical interference is reported to get stronger the closer to the house one is and outright fails once inside the abandoned abode.
