Forums » Playing for Points: AKA Arena mode! » The Versus Ring (1 on 1)

This is the place where Versus fights may happen between your characters and a weekly or monthly NPC. This could be a mage, a monster, a character from a manga, or a mecha of some kind. Maybe even more than one of those at once!

The instructions are here:

1: I will announce/post the boss type of the session
2: you may prepare your character for battle!
3: the adversary you may fight will have a set number of hit points, battle points, and possible modifiers. These may affect or be affected by your own hit points, battle points, or modifiers when you roll dice.
3: you will roll dice for yourself and dice for the opponent, with as much roleplay as you like involved for yourself (at least a cursory item/handwaving description), while the dice rolled for the opponent will have preselected responses which you can add to depending on the scenario. For example, if you have a bard you're using and want to try out a fire wand, you can roll for yourself and roleplay your description, then roll for the other fighter and add the description of how the fight is going ("She screams in rage and charges at you, skimming your side with her club! You manage a hit on her with your weapon!" "Uh, okay, she stumbled over the rocks inelegantly as I, the noble hero, gloriously smashed her finger with my flaming wand!"). You know, that sort of thing.... XD
4: Modifiers do work here, as previously stated; please remember if you have a modifier to use! And use it! :)
5: Creature/witch/baddie modifiers will be stated in their announcement if obvious; if it's a secret modifier, they might not! :)
6: Baddies may rotate from time to time. Also, they might not even always be baddies! Get ready for some cool stuff! Aw, yeah!
7: To be a little more professional, let's continue, haha! Uh, there will be in-game loot and/or site loot from opponents, occasionally, but not always! It's up to you how far you want to go with the roleplay, of course, but if there's no loot you can just count it among your experience points and make a poetic ending of the fight for yourself, okay?
8: Godmodding is allowed here, as much as the dice allow. Just don't totally twist around what they say, alright? And remember, you might have spectators. *Bwahahahaha*.
9: If there's some loot you're really trying to get for a quest or something, ask me in a message and I'll see about integrating it in a prize or drop at some point, okay? :) This is a lot of rules, but your moderator and group administrator is going to try to be kind, especially since you have to follow them all, hahahahaha.
10: Take care! Make some friends! Add to your grand backstory! Be dramatic! Be good! Play evil! Have fun! :) And remember to use your modifiers! And remember the monsters' modifiers. And don't forget a pinch of cool dialogue, if you want it, alright?!? Laters!

Righto, have some fun and play by yourselves! Proverbially go crazy in the candy store! But don't go too nuts.
This section's monster: the vampire banshee witch!

Vampire Banshee Witch
A sort of beautiful but angry and sad-looking woman, she carries spell components at her hip and has extremely long claws on her hands. Her hair is a sheet of wet locks, stringy and cold-looking. Her skin is also cold, like pure marble and mottled stone, white and grey and rainbow translucence.
She attacks with magic of 100! Her hit points are at 700. Multiplier of 4 to the damage she deals when it's over 89, as this means she's reached her spell components and can add a spell to her fighting powers! Rawr!
Bastrina readied her pan and hammer-stick, preparing to fight the monster with her attack of 120 and her HP of 450. Rah!
rolled 1d100 and got a natural 28.

Note: Damage dealt to Bastrina

Taking 28 damage, Bastrina grunted and threw herself at the monster again, flailing around with the weapons and attempting to block one hit after another.
Dealing 48 damage, Bastrina cheered.
rolled 1d12 and got a natural 4.
Monster current HP: 652

Bastrina current HP: 422
rolled 1d100 and got a natural 48.

Note: Damage dealt to Bastrina

Ouch!! Suddenly getting whipped with the hair and nails of the banshee hurt! That banshpire! She laughed, the baker did, standing up on her tiptoes for a stretch as she got her best attempt at a hit onto the grimy cold monster, ew!

((Just realized I got the rolling method wrong, I think. For Bastrina's attack of 120, it had better be 10 dice of 12 sides rather than 1 12-sided die that I multiply by whatever it rolled. Oops??! ))
rolled 10d12 and got a natural 77.
7 4 1 7 11 12 10 9 12 4
Current HP:

Bastrina: 422 -48
Monster: 652 -77

Bastrina is at 374, while the monster is at 575! :) I think. *Blink blink*. That math seems to be pretty good, right??
The monster shrieked and reared back, flailing and yelling and growling. Her cold hair flicked around, sparks coming off of her as she began to make slow, scary, fanged descent. She had her claws extended and her pouches flapped a little ominously, herbs poking out and a smell of spooky wetness and mold growing as she came closer and closer to the baker-and-warrior, who wanted greatly to fend her off... Yikes....
rolled 1d100 and got a natural 78.

Note: Bastrina takes damage.

Bastrina shrieked back as claws slashed her face and arm, and the fangs narrowly skimmed over her head. The snapping jaws were pretty close now, but Bastrina was buckling under the force of ducking away from the evil dive of the monster! She ripped out her stick, and it made a cracking sound on the air. Then it whacked the other lady, err, that is, the monster, the banshpire!
She dealt some damage... But the situation... Was still pretty scary!....
rolled 10d12 and got a natural 77.
10 3 5 10 9 10 1 10 8 11

Note: Bastrina damage to monster.

The monster got a solid whack in the shoulder and even got her leg stepped on. She flew backwards, screaming and yelling. Her claws came out again, and her face made a melty looking stare as she grotesquely lunged forward... Like some kind of villain...
rolled 1d100 and got a natural 96.

Note: The monster dealt damage!

Monster HP: 498
Bastrina HP: 296 until last time's damage, when she takes 96 damage with a multiplier of 4! That's 384! She doesn't have that much health, so... She's gotta revive....... Using a potion rather than dealing too much damage this round!
With so much health sapped by the monster's magical bite, Bastrina must think quickly! She uses a potion she had on her, and obtains... 225 of her previous health, minus health in damage from what she obtained last time! That's 225 -82, which means she has 143 health left!
Time to fight. With a little bit of a weaker attack... Bastrina hefts her weapon and steadies her body, making sure her footsteps are sure, careful, and also still fast. She's ready, she's gotta get going, she goes!
rolled 10d10 and got a natural 46.
2 6 2 8 6 6 2 3 5 6

Note: Bastrina deals damage.

Monster health: 452
The banshpire screeches and attacks again.
rolled 1d100 and got a natural 32.

Note: Rawr, attacking warrior.

With 111 health left at that moment, Bastrina swings again before she decides to retreat a bit and rest for a little while in the shade because monster fights are hard work phew!
rolled 10d10 and got a natural 48.
5 10 8 2 6 2 1 7 4 3
The monster, having 404 health now, attacks once more and retreats to the shadows, not quite dealing a mortal wound to the warrior. She wants a break, too, at this point, really......
rolled 1d100 and got a natural 96.
