    District: Purple District

Previous Leaders: Don Nina, Don Bonita, Don Cornell

Formerly known as the Funk Mafia, the newly dubbed Funk Majesty is about sophistication, discipline, and ambition. Previously, the Mafia placed high importance on control and intimidation through force– in its new era, Majesty values control over oneself, and members usually prefer to intimidate others through impressive skill earned via intense training and hard work. As a whole, they place importance on loyalty, dance/musical skill, and finely tuned vibe power. Steppers with those things are given the respect they deserve within the Purple District– and others are strongly encouraged to follow their example.

In the past, disco & funk was Purple's favored style of music and dance– and their clubs and venues reflected it. Since the death of Don Cornell in the War of ‘99 (and subsequently, the end of his disco-only reign), other styles and aesthetics have become much more widely accepted, even while a widespread reverence for disco remains. Majesty aims to continue breaking the boundaries set by James Cornell and the Mafia, now welcoming all types of Steppers (as long as they have the drive, loyalty and ambition their would-be faction demands).

The Purple District has a history of running efficiently and effectively since the War of ‘99 due to its tight-knit and highly structured nature. Everything has a process that must be followed, and while some people may find these processes and protocols tedious or “stuffy,” it helps keep the district running like a well-oiled machine. Even while leadership changes hands, inter-district disagreements don’t throw a wrench into any bureaucratic process.

    Previous Leaders: Greg Dorian, G-Reg

The UG is about survival, freedom, and vengeance. The faction was founded to fight back against Mafia ambitions. They value their independence highly and will come down hard on anyone who denies them it. UG is slow to forgive, and even slower to forget.

The UG welcomes all styles of dance and music but is less tolerant of disco due to their history of fighting The Funk Mafia. In the past, many UG held a spiritual stance on vibe and dancing, but much of that faith has faded since The War of '99.

The UG are united by a desire for independence. After nearly a decade of absentee or weak leaders, sub-factions have formed and fought in the resulting chaos. The UG has weakened considerably as the faction offered less protection and stability with each passing year, and members have defected.

During X110, Steven 'The Rizz' has reappeared and resumed leadership, bringing hope and fire to the struggling faction.

Outlaws, nomads, lowlifes. They are named for the fact that most wear roller blades, skates, or wheels of some kind to aid their wandering. They don’t fit in with any other faction, or just don’t hold loyalties. Some have disrupted the ceremony of dance, cheated, or interrupted a competition, but somehow escaped the sentence of Death by Groove. Others are ex-spies who have had their cover blown. Some are just nuisances to society.

While banditos are generally, usually rightly, distrusted, there are no rules or enforcements for not wearing green or donning skates. Unlucky citizens may find themselves in the company of undeclared Banditos and never know it.

Not an official faction, but a term for unaligned citizens. They are often treated as second class citizens, especially outside the Research District.

Squares often have an underdeveloped Vibe, or may even be Jamdeaf, though powerful steppers have been known to choose to be Square. if they show promise, many are actively sought for Faction recruitment or apprenticeships.
  • ➠ MINOR FACTIONS

Minor factions are clubs, cults, or small loosely-associated groups that operate within Step City. They are not officially recognized as Factions, and their members are often also members of one of the Big Four, by association or intention.

    DOVE

    District: Everywhere and Nowhere
Headquarters: Rumoured to be the STEP Tower Lobby: The lobby of research tower has been absolutely trashed since V-day. Is this really a base?

Dove symbols have been more prominent, even in the orange and purple districts. Some weird fashion trend?

Very little is known about this faction. Supporters of DOVE often belong to major factions, making themselves known by wearing a bird or wing insignia. Their goals are unknown to outsiders, but rumor has it they aim to bring the city together in peace. Their home base is rumoured to be the lobby of STEP Tower.

After being fingered in Don Bonita's death, the FM violently attacked DOVE, expelling as many members as they could and leaving the small faction fractured and scattered. It's unknown what's left of them.

    SCPD

    District: --
    Headquarters: --

The StepCity Police Department was formerly the actual law enforcement agency of Step City prior to V-Day, but now only consists of vigilantes with their own ideas of justice. They are unaligned with any other faction.

During the Scientist's Rebellion, the SCPD sided with the Scientist's, attempting to detain people to bring back order. The fighting that followed lead to the downfall of the SCPD as an organization; those that remain are just scattered vigilantes, and not organized.

    LA CORONA

    District: Research District
    Headquarters: An observatory

Their name first started spreading through whispers following the Solar Flare Event. Very few know anything about them, except that they seem to worship the Sun, and the effect it has on Vibes. They've only recently--X020--started gaining a small reputation, as their distinctive red Tag has begun appearing on buildings.

La Corona is considered a cult, with small pockets of worshippers popping up mostly in the RD. Their belief system is centered around the sun flares and vibe.

Headquarters: The sewers--or the underground railway system

Aligned to no one, they are the stuff of nightmares. Most doubt their existence-- or maybe it's just wishful thinking. They're rumoured to use the sewers for transport (or else live in them directly), and to gather at the old terminal station at the farthest south tip of the island. Few dare go there.

    SCIENTISTS

    District: --
    Headquarters: STEP Tower?

Are any of them even still alive...?

The Scientists started this mess. The remnants of the STEP Project are scattered. Much like the SCPD, they're no longer an organization. But anyone associated with the Scientists, or considered one, are met with contempt. Hatred. And it isn't unwarranted. Responsible for the Scientist's Rebellion, and the famine that followed. Responsible for the Thriller Virus, and countless other attacks on the citizens over the years.
