Step City

Set in the GROOVY near-future, on an alternative earth much like our own, STEPCITY is a dystopian SCIFI bursting with humour, charm, and a very 60s/70s/80s colour palette. Set on an isolated island, completely cordoned off from the mainland, resulting in a Lord of the Flies type survival setting dappled with pseudo-magic that’s fueled by a science experiment gone terribly, terribly right.

Characters have been bestowed with super powers, which can only be unlocked by their ability to DANCE and SING, resulting in a wealth of creativity in combining styles, powers, and funky beats.

This is an RP where you might find yourself indoctrinated into a ballet company run like a Russian mafia, or cornered in a dark alley by a gang of doo-wopping hooligans, or awoken in the dead of night in a cold sweat at the thought of encountering the Morris dancers rumoured to haunt the sewers.

What's happened recently in Step City's timeline?




STEPCITY has been running on and off for eleven years, so suffice to say it has a long, established lore. Originally an ARP, short for Art Roleplay, posts were done exclusively by drawing short comics on Tegaki-E. Today, the RP welcomes both written and art-based roleplay. For artists looking to try their hand at an ARP for the first time, or written roleplayers who don’t mind bouncing posts off of comics. The styles of written and drawn posts can be any combination that’s comfortable for you and your partners.


What's an ARP or Art Roleplay?

Step City got its start as an ARP on Tegakie, an in-browser art journaling program. ARPs are just like written roleplays, but instead of narrating each post, you draw a short comic to drive the scene! Entirely drawn art-roleplays can be quite a big time investment, and over the years Step City has evolved to welcome written AND drawn roleplays, allowing for fusions of the two styles.

You can set the effort-level and feel of your posts with your partner(s), from quick sketches to full colour.




Who is behind this group?

I (aj_89) have been a long-time veteran of RPRepository, since its opening in 2010ish. However I've never been a very public RPer, so hello! This group is headed by myself, and friends Orun, QQ, and assisted by Mazzaroo, all figures unknown on RPR. I've dragged them (and our entire existing member-group) kicking and screaming onto the platform to launch Step City 3.0. We're all very nice, we promise.
