➠ WHAT IS STREET CRED?
Not to be confused with ‘cred’, the main currency of Step City, ‘Street Cred’ is an XP-like Reputation System. The numbers and levels involved in the system exist purely Out-of-Character. However, the ranks can hold In-Character weight and significance, and are used to determine a character’s notoriety or renown within their Faction. Street Cred is not an indicator of physical prowess or strength of vibe.
Street Cred can also have more direct In-Character analogues, depending on your faction. The UG have Membership Cards that store a virtual currency awarded for various good-deeds in the community. Within Orange District, this provides various benefits.
But the main use of Street Cred is as an OOC indicator of IC notoriety within your own faction, and infamy in other factions. This can be translated as rolls to see what you know about other characters, and general rumours.
Disclaimer: Street Cred is not required to have fun in Step City! It's only meant to be a fun, lighthearted XP-like system to encourage participation, and measure Public Knowledge about characters.
Street Cred cannot be earned by Bosses, MCs, or Leaders. Characters that hold these ranks are already notorious! So a numerical score of their infamy is not needed. Characters promoted to these ranks will have their scores frozen.
➠ OBTAINING STREET CRED
There are various ways to earn Street Cred. But the main way is by participating in various events. As Step City grows, more opportunities will arise, and those will be posted here. Mods can also award Street Cred for general participation in the community, and you may be awarded Street Cred as a consequence for winning a Dance Battle, or for particularly Sick Moves.
To get started, the easiest way to get your character Five Points right at the start, is to fill out the Move Set Baton. Below is a link to the thread and the rules.
