The U.G (The Underground)
The UG is about survival, freedom, and vengeance. They value their independence highly, and will come down hard on anyone who denies them it.
The UG welcomes all styles of dance and music, but are less tolerant of disco due to their history of fighting The Funk Mafia. In the past, many UG held a spiritual stance on vibe and dancing, but much of that has faded since The War of '99.
The UG is a faction that was founded to fight the oppression of Funk Mafia’s elitist ways. As such, they are slow to forgive, and even slower to forget.
History (X079-X093)
Originally, the Orange District was one of the two main test sites in the STEP project. The district’s population was filled with a plethora of people with many different styles of dance, cultures and views and while the residents may not have agreed on everything, they lived a relatively peaceful life during those early years of the city's growth.
However, when V-day happened, these communities relied on those closest to them for help during the turmoil, and with the emergence of Vibe abilities being added to the mix, this once larger community fractured into many, each with their own leaders to help organize and navigate through these trying times.
The growing lack of trust between each of the communities was exacerbated even further during the Scientist Rebellion. With each community desperate for food, water, and other vital resources, they were forced to first look out for their own, meting out swift justice to any outsiders seeking to deprive them of what little they could spare.
Greg Dorian and James Cornell put a stop to the Scientist Rebellion, returning power to the districts and in so doing became heroes throughout the city.
Greg Dorian found himself aiding the Orange district and later founded The UG, while Cornell stayed in the Purple District to found the Funk Mafia.
Rise to Power - Fighting the Funk Mafia Threat (X093-X099)
The UG became the largest gang in the Orange District under Greg Dorian’s rule. The Deck, which was originally a multipurpose entertainment and arts center was given to Greg as a base of operations where he could oversee the training of UG fledglings. It is here that he nurtured the skills of many a young stepper to fight against Funk Mafia’s elitist dance oppression.
UG’s numbers grew exponentially under the charismatic and caring leadership of Greg, and it wasn't long before UG had the numbers to rival their enemies.
With UG becoming too big to handle for one person. Greg appointed his first mysterious and elusive MC, Specter in X094, and his second MC, a destructive tiny powerhouse called Steve-O-Rizzle in X097.
During the brief periods of peace, UG and the Orange District grew closer as a community and started several community-driven initiatives, chief among which was the production and protection of their own sustainable food sources. The UG leaders were ever vigilant of the prospect that Funk Mafia might attempt something similar to the Scientist rebellion and would viciously protect their self-sufficiency in order to prevent such a scenario.
After one particularly nasty hit by Funk Mafia in X098 that left several of the larger food-producing gardens in flames, a small group of Orange district residents banded together to create a group who coordinated several devastating targeted attacks on the Purple District in retaliation under the moniker ‘the Green Thumbs.’
The terror group was disavowed by Greg Dorian and the UG. However, it appeared, especially to FM, that very little effort was being put into actually stopping the group, despite there being vocal concerns from Dorian’s own MC’s.
It wasn’t until X099 that most of the members of the Green Thumbs were finally caught by UG, and by then it did little to alleviate the already heightened tensions between the two factions. War was brewing and the capture was a little too late.
The War of ‘99 (X099)
After months of escalating violence throughout the city, Funk Mafia and The UG had a final, large-scale confrontation: The Dance War of ‘99.
During the war, many UG, including Greg Dorian perished as did the Funk Mafia leader, James Cornell. UG took a little longer to reorganize than their rivals as old loyalties to the former gang made choosing a leader difficult. Despite the chaos, Steve-O-Rizzle was eventually voted in as the new Leader of the Underground.
Reconstruction Era (X099 -X101)
The clean-up after the war and a new leader brought on several changes to UG. Steven may not have been as charismatic as the previous boss, but he made up for it with his technological know-how and budgeting/management skills which he had honed as an MC. He launched his newest creation, the UG bots to assist in the clean-up and rebuilding of UG with technology that was thought to have been lost after the Scientist were purged.
Under Steven’s tenure as leader and with the help of his two MC’s: Joules (Craig) and Daz, he concentrated more on the reconstruction and betterment of the Orange district than on expansion and turf wars. He was also known to assist the Research district at times due to how heavily they were hit during the War of 99’, though some of his detractors would say this was only because he was a Square himself before he joined UG.
There were still a few fights here and there between the two factions and a pandemic and the dreaded Flares. However, nothing was ever so drastic to kick off another war.
(X101cont - X103)
Despite Steven’s secret disappearance, UG was running at its almost normal capacity for a while, albeit a little more passively for the next few years due to there being a now known ‘impersonator Steven’, running the show during this time.
This ‘Steven’ still met with some of the people, still made ‘appearances’, but was a lot less quick to throw down than the original.
It was business as usual. The Orange district improvements were still being made and lives were lived while Funk Mafia suffered an attack on its Don. Some may have thought it was the time to attack FM with so much disarray going on. That idea was shut right down, especially with there only being 1 MC still active and secretly no actual Steven.

Death and Descent (X104 - X107)
On a warm summer night in X104, ‘Steven’ died.
Not in a dramatic fight, defending UG from the tyrannical Funk Mafia, but in a staged catastrophic accident while working on one of his many robot experiments. The incident left nothing but a smooth, still smoking crater where his lab used to be.
There is video footage of the incident, there were no signs of foul play and there is even an arm that has a DNA match to Steven left behind. They buried it at his funeral which even FM Bosses and Regent came to.
A few days later, a new Leader was put in place.
Several months later, another one was put into place.
And then another one.
And another one.
Some dropped out, some were kicked out and some died.
During this period of UG leader musical chairs, the most memorable of them was the Leader G-Reg - not the strongest of vibe users, but what he lacked in power he made up for with charisma.
The UG bots that had been looking after the Orange district were put into storage due to Steven not being there to maintain them.
These times were quite tumultuous for the faction, and FM knew it.
Loss of OPP (X108)
The Takeover wasn’t as quick and decisive as FM probably liked to paint it. Hell, if you spoke to FM’s leader and bosses, they would tell you that ‘it wasn’t their orders. It was just a power grab by some Old Guard Funk Mafia’ and that they had nothing to do with it.
That did not explain the several planned attacks on UGHQ and Rekkid that ‘happened’ to have been planned by them on the same day.
Rekkid had Joules and UGHQ had a temp leader to organize a defense against these attacks on their districts, but OPP had no MC at the time.
They fought hard, but with no backup straight away and no clear designated leadership, OPP and the district around it were overwhelmed and consumed by Purple.
UG who had lived near OPP for most, if not their whole lives were either suddenly displaced or had to live under FM restrictive and oppressive rule.
Surviving - X108-X110
There were a few attempts to take back OPP during this time, but while they failed, FM had not been able to gain any new noticeable ground during those 2 years either. OPP was a great loss of income and vendies for the Orange district, but with the 3 major Gardens which produced all of UG’s main fresh food still being under UG’s control, FM didn’t deal the killing blow they thought it would.
Did they cause some stagnation and make UG’s and Orange district's life more chaotic and difficult? - Yes.
Was UG gonna lie down and submit just because life was a little rougher than usual? - Never.
Back from the Dead - X110 (Present)
The actual Steven ‘Formally known as Steve-O-Rizzle’ The Rizz is back with a new track: Rizzsurrected. He is happy to be UG’s new Temp leader until the faction is stable once again.
He’s been back just over a month now and things are kinda looking up? Well, a lot of infrastructure and maintenance that has been neglected for years in the district is finally getting dealt with.
Some UG are relieved that Steven is back…. Some aren't, but few can deny having the old-school powerhouse backing UG is bad news for Funk Mafia.
Now there is just the little matter of reclaiming OPP...
