Eddath, The Old Giver
At the very genesis of all things was the perfect balance. All beings existed as one entity, boundless and without form under the powerful name: Eddath The Old Giver. It's impossible to determine the age of this celestial being, but overtime, it longed for its own self-reflection, to better understand its own existence.
It created a tear within the world, and within its void was both limitless potential, and infinite loneliness. Upon discovering these vastly different concepts, it grew awareness from both: The loneliness which desired for an Other to be in its presence, and the excitement of potential, fueling its imagination to create the unthinkable.
In order to make these concepts flourish, Eddath realized it must abandon its current state. Unmaking its existence, it left behind residual energy that would form the Realm of True Spirit, as it crawled into the crack of the world to create everything we know as reality.
Priam & Abraxial
When Eddath slipped through the crack in the world, its raw essence was exposed to the void, creating etherea, the pure manifestation of its consciousness. This warped and bent the world it originally lived on, reshaping it into what we know as the hierarchy of realms. The etherea burned and burned until two beings formed: Abraxial, of shadow and chaos, and Priam of order and light.
As one would expect, the two could not see eye-to-eye, for their wants and needs were vastly different from each other. They took to their own realms, and created beings in their own image, using the etherea still glowing in their celestial forms.
Their children are what we know as Angels & Demons, but unlike their omnipotent creators, they could not stand idly by as the other stood in defiance of their own existence.
Thus began the Celestial War...
Eons passed without a decisive victor. Both Celestial Realms were perpetually locked in an endless war, disrupting the balance of etherea in the process. It was in this moment that Priam and Abraxial realized their grave mistake, and plotted in secret to recompense for the imbalance.
They convened beyond the Celestial Realms of Heaven and Hell, and destroyed themselves in a massive explosion, sending etherea to rain across all corners of creation. So much etherea rained at the core of the explosion that it formed the Mortal Realm, also known as Earth. And standing between the Celestial Realms and the Mortal Realm, was the Underworld, The Land of the Dead. This was another result of Priam and Abraxial's destruction, and the place where Death, The Alltaker was made into existence...
Death, The Alltaker
An entity made from the ethereal guts of both Priam and Abraxial, the first and perhaps only of his kind. Called into existence as their dying wish for balance, his siblings in the Celestial Realm wasted no time in using him for their own agendas. The deaths of Priam and Abraxial had somehow cut the Celestial Realms off from everything else. Therefore, Death had no choice but to act as an intermediary for the etherea bound to the Mortal Realm.
Without room for debate, he was immediately tasked to herd its abundant etherea for Heaven and Hell, giving them the energy required to fuel their war machines.
Death obeyed, until his time on earth opened his eyes to the injustice of his deeds. It dawned on him that he was partaking in a slave trade, where their etherea, their essence, and all that makes them dream and want, is to be made as an expendable resource for a hopeless feud.
Illverness, City of the Underworld
Thus, Death, The Alltaker, created his own kingdom in the Underworld, ferrying souls fit to liberate the mortal realm from Heaven and Hell. So long as he continues to divvy out their much needed etherea, the Angels and Demons don’t inquire about his affairs...
The Court of the Dead
Death knows that no one can comprehend their true self in a vacuum, and that no one can govern without trustworthy counsel. And so he set about creating, assembling, and adapting twelve distinct individual creations that would eventually become known as the Court of the Dead. Each of these entities reflects some aspect of the Alltaker.
The Court members all have their own needs, wants and agendas- but together they lend cohesion and purpose to our realm and they assist Death shepherding us towards our destiny. Since he first created the Court, Long ago, much has changed. Some of Death's children have fallen or been lost, replaced at times by beings from other realms that have pledged their loyalty to Death. Learn their names and you will discover much about our land.
