The elementary school rocked, windows exploding outwards from the force of the gas induced explosion caused within the kitchens. The resounding noise that shook the air and caused trees to tremble against the ground left little but the bones and outer walls of the elementary school left. Even the high school, not all that far away would be damaged, windows and outer doors having exploded inwards from the concussion. Rubble and ash rose high in the air, thrown upwards and out before falling back to the earth in arches of firey red hot missiles and gracefully fluttering of the ash. The two who had once been inside the building had vanished, perhaps killed? But perhaps they had made their escape and had kept running. Zombies moved slowly, their feet dragging along the ground as nearly all of them turned their heads towards the noise and moved to go that way rather than directly into town. The sounds of birds and other creatures from the woods would be silenced by the forces that had been unleashed and the only sounds that one could hear is the crackling of the fires and slowly crumbling stones, mixed with the shuffling and groaning growls from the oncoming hordes.
ON CAMPUS
The explosion would have been heard even here, the blast felt by those who may have been outside or near any open doors or windows. Windows would have remained intact, doors having held against it, while most of the light bulbs would have burst from over head lights or lamps. The actual concussion force may have been enough to fry many wires in the outer walls of the buildings, but that remains to be seen. The zombies that had once creapt slowly across the grounds, leaving behind dripping blood and all manner of things, turned and began moving through the woods. Even those still out on the far edges of the campus would have began making their way towards the rumbling noise.
Those within the dorms would have felt the explosion, but have been protected from the blast itself by the walls. Inside the other buildings, such as the medical building and administration building would have been able to see and hear the zombies reaction to the noise, and watch how they changed directions and went towards the rising cloud of debris.
INSIDE TOWN ITSELF
(This is also for the roads leading into town from the elementary and high school))
Anyone within a half a mile from explosion would have been knocked to the ground from the force of the ground shaking and the air around whoever went burning hot, making it difficult to breath. The sounds of the fire burning could be heard, even from here and the shaking of the ground and trees would be enough to cancel out the thought of trying to run towards the explosion.
