Night. Seattle. The city still sleeping. Chain-link fence rattles as alley cat scaled up one side, caterwaul echoing out through the night as it escaped the clutches of a stray dog.
Rusted, beat-up old white van chugged along the quiet roads, exhaust spluttering as it came to a stop. In the distance, sirens wailed as fire department responded to lingering black smoke in the sky. A fire blazed through a small warehouse in Seattle's Industrial District.
A stack of papers left sitting outside a coffee house. Engine sounded once more as the van set off again. All across the city, as it's citizens slumbered, these paper stacks were left outside various meeting places and hot spots awaiting the morning rush.
Sunlight begins to wash over the city... and as Local News began their morning reports, it seemed as though someone had beaten them to it. The stacks would dwindle, commuters taking a copy alongside their morning coffee. A crudely edited, three page breaking report...
SCOOP EXLCUSIVE: TWO CONFIRMED DEAD AS ABANDONED WAREHOUSE BURNS.
Two bodies have been found in the aftermath of a horrific fire that broke out in one of the many old, abandoned warehouses in Seattle's Industrial District. Seattle Fire Department worked tirelessly throughout the night to combat the blaze, which they responded to at around 11p.m., confirming at 3:25 a.m. that the fire was finally under control with minimal damage to neighboring buildings. Signs of trespass around the building kick-started an investigation to find the source of the blaze, which led to the discovery of two bodies, which our sources can confirm belong to two Extra Dimensional Entities who had been living in the city following the events of the Collision. Crowds of people began their morning watching on as the area surrounding the warehouse was blocked off from public access. Whilst investigators and fire officials declined to comment on the nature of the blaze, they have appealed to the public for any information and advice was given to those living and working within the immediate area to, "Keep your doors and windows closed. If anybody was present in the area on the night of the fire and saw or heard anything out of the ordinary then do not hesitate to contact the Seattle PD." Despite the tight-lipped response we received from city officials, we at The Seattle Scoop have EXCLUSIVE photographs that may provide a hint toward the true nature of what the city have been playing down as just another unfortunate event. Continued on the next page!
Be sure to keep an eye out for our upcoming election special in response to the 'Time's' interview with Councilwoman Demure: The best we can hope for? Or is there something hidden behind that smile?
Pages turned and commuters stopped dead in their tracks. Pictures from inside the warehouse. Two young EDE's. Early 20's. One of them, an obvious mutant, physical mutations prominent across their features. The other... who knew? The look of fear in their eyes, both tied down on chairs, screaming toward the camera. Fire. Smoke. The final pictures taken from among the groups of fire-fighters, showing hoses blasting water toward the building.
Morning. Seattle. The city had awoken to tragedy. A Shocking Scoop. The start of something... bigger?
Sirens wailed in response to another fire. Smaller, tamer. Rusted, beat-up, old white van found burnt out in a parking lot downtown.
Only the beginning.

Morning. Seattle. The city had awoken to tragedy. A Shocking Scoop. The start of something... bigger?
Sirens wailed in response to another fire. Smaller, tamer. Rusted, beat-up, old white van found burnt out in a parking lot downtown.
Only the beginning.
Television sets all across the city turned their channels to Channel 4 as reporters filed into a room.
A figure begins to walk up to the podium as cameras fire off, rapid fire snapping pictures of the Councilwoman.
“Good evening, people of Seattle. I am sure you’re all aware of why I called this emergency press conference but I will summarize for those who might be out of the loop,” Councilwoman Demure began, her expression somber and serious and no politician smiled to be had.
She was even dressed in mostly black, a fitted dress underneath a dark charcoal blazer.
Her eyes stared out over the crowd as she shuffled the papers in front of her.
“Last night we received reports that a fire was started by an unknown arsonist. Two mutants, two refugees... were killed in the fire. We don’t know yet the cause of the fire and whether it is or isn’t orchestrated by a human supremacy group as none of them have yet to take credit,” she pauses again as she looks out over the crowd and then directly into the camera.
“As the Mayor has been slow to voice his own concerns, as candidate for Mayor I will make my stance known. I condemn human supremacy. I condemn any form of supremacy, but it white, human, or heterosexual. I believe us all to be equal no matter how different we may appear to be. And if these acts are acts of anti-mutant dissent, I condemn them as well.”
Her eyes were dark and full of passion as she glared at the camera, not allowing for anyone to misinterpret her stance.
“If I lose voters for this, then so be it. But I will not allow this city that has accepted me so fully to be torn apart by any divisiveness. As such, I am working in close proximity with Seattle PD to apprehend the suspects and am working on building a committee that represents ALL of Seattle so we can come together and work towards a more common goal: one of unity and mutual respect.”
This news causes more chatter and questions being thrown her way, causing the Councilwoman to hold up a when to silence them.
“I will answer any questions in due time. However, first I would like to hold a moment of silence for the victims. I also ask that if anyone feels the need to protest, to do so peacefully and if you would like you may join me in a candlelit vigil I will be hosting at the Collision Memorial Botanical Gardens tonight at 8pm,” she lets that sit for a moment before going on.
“Now, please hold these victims in your hearts and minds. Pray or don’t, but think about them and think how either one of them could’ve been your mother, your brother, your child. And then remind yourself that they don’t need to be related to you in order to be mourned. They were people and their lives were selfishly taken.”
The room grows still as even pictures stop being taken, Victoria closing her eyes and praying quietly to herself.
The moment passes and then she lifts her chin, resolve within her gaze.
“Now, let’s get to work.”
