Luneshade Island

  • The Luneshade Islands are a series of crescent shaped islands found in the furthest reaches of the Northern Seas among treacherous and violent waters. Only the bravest sailors venture this far north, and few of those brave sailors have ever ventured to the islands and then returned. Legend says it is a last destination of sorts, a place where dying sailors travel to as a final voyage.

While it's certainly true that few ever return from the Luneshade Isles, that has more to do with the treacherous seas than any mystical power drawing sailors to their deaths - well, other than the mist. The dangerous waters aren't the only thing that deters visitors. A preternatural mist surrounds the islands, obscuring them from view and preventing most from finding their way to shore.

The population of the Luneshade Islands has had minimal contact with the rest of the world over the years, and as such have developed a unique culture that is deeply spiritual and rooted in a unique connection to and reverence for the land and the energies that flow through the island.

Much of the population finds itself changed after prolonged periods on the islands, especially those who reside on the main island. The Luneshade Isles serve as a nexus point of numerous types of mystical or magical energies. The constant humming presence of this energies permanently changes those who call the Luneshade Islands home.

  • There are approximately twelve islands in the chain that make up the Luneshade Islands - and uniquely they are all crescent shaped, though they vary in size. Only 3 of the islands are known to be inhabited.

Nightvale - The largest and "primary" island. Most of Luneshade's population resides on this island. The southern and western coasts are extremely mountainous, casting a long shadow over many of the other islands.
Blackburn - So named for the beaches covered in black sand, and the trees which are prone to self igniting though they never seem to wither away. Fire Blossoms are commonly found in the foothills to the north.
Aethrea - An island covered in dense forests, forever caught in the shadow of Nightvale - this has caused inhabitants of Aethrea to begin glowing.
