"Most of our needs are met with imports – the soil is difficult here and bloody sand is ill suited for fertilizer. Trade, though, ever-finds-a-way and you will note that enough of a city has sprung up around our bloody temple to provide for most any need or want one might have. There are mines in the region, too - nestled into the mountain as we are, and we receive a tithe to serve as an impromptu army when the situation calls. Some of what they mine finds its way to the unique smiths and smelters about the Grand Arena, for our pilgrims are nothing without their preferred implements of violence.

As for exports, we have but one notable commodity and that is glory. Some might even say it is priceless, but here, I would disagree. There is the coin that patrons put forward to room and board and train their fighters… And I take a measure of that. There is the coin that the gamblers and odds-makers shift and shunt about, making and breaking fortunes on the knives of others… And I take a measure of that. There are the rich and the well-connected, who need or believe they need a protector that is not only competent but who’s very name, associated with theirs, sends a message to a would be foe... And yes, I take some measure of that, too. All in all, if pressed, I could assign a very specific number to glory.

But enough of my fortune. How will you make yours?

  • Location Summary

    * Medieval Fantasy Setting
    * The Grand Arena (Sometimes called The Temple of Blood) is set into a mountain
    * A modestly appointed city has sprung up around it
    * Surrounding terrain is hostile; ergo, mining is about all there is for other industry
  • Setting

The Grand Arena exists in a Medieval/High Fantasy setting. It is at something of a nexus point, so the occasional never-before-seen creature roams the halls. They are welcome, provided they possess the rudiments of civilization.
  • Population

What sorts of Pilgrims will you meet in the Grand Arena? Those with skin. Those with scales. Those with paws, claws, teeth, and tails. Some that whisper. Some that wail.

I have been told, by those who understand things like ley lines and way-gates that The Grand Arena is something of a large stone in a small stream. If one wishes to hop from shore to shore, rather than jump it all in a single go, it can be easier to alight here for an interim.

This is all a rather roundabout way of saying I've no more idea than you who will be around the next corner.

  • Population Summary

    * Most races and species are allowed, within reason
    * Most types of magic are allowed, within reason
  • Off The Sands

Yes, I do find having guards at an arena somewhat ironic, but glory cannot be cultivated without some rules. On that subject, the tunnels under the arena go down far deeper than most might realize – and no, you will not find every inch patrolled. A certain amount of skullduggery must be allowed, and it’s best given its own space; otherwise, it turns into the mint in the vegetable garden – lovely in small doses but inclined to choke everything else nearby.

One might also be surprised to learn the number and quality of servants employed. Those pilgrims who, through their labors on the sands, become the High Priests and Priestesses of this temple expect… and deserve… the finest treatment. Oh, certainly, nothing is free… But one who knows how to win spectacularly… or lose beautifully… will rarely find themselves wanting.

  • Off the Sands Summary

    * The Grand Arena has a grand staff
    * Servant NPCs may be used in RP as desired
    * Guard NPCs are simply to encourage some realism. IE: One character can't just walk up and murder/steal/whatever because they can safely assume they would be executed. It also encourages shadowy characters doing shady things to actually be secretive about it. In short, neither I nor anyone else is going to RP guards going after you, but you should assume they would if the situation warranted (and RP accordingly).
