Sometimes, however, new arrivals to not arrive at the portals. Sometimes they appear in other places, sometimes as far out as the deep woods outside of Omniopolis.

These woods are dangerous, though, for at this point beasts and monsters from multiple worlds have conglomorated and multiplied here. Anyone who finds themselves out here had better be wary, for here be monsters.

Background
"You won't beat me!" Spectremon yelled as they charged forth toward the angry garurumon. The rookie digimon had always been capable of punching above their weight. It had been a long time since they had lost a fight to another digimon of their digivolution level; and they had even defeated weaker champion-level digimon. This particular garurumon seemed middling when it came to champion-level capability and was the next logical step for the spectremon to prove themselves. If they could beat an average champion digimon now, imagine what they could do after digivolving!

Spectremon's blade struck the garurumon in the shoulder, the weapon embedding itself within the digital flesh of the creature. Naturally, there was no blood. Data was not wont to bleed under normal circumstances. The athletic garurumon acted fast, however, moving out of the way before Spectremon could recover the weapon. Technically, one of Spectremon's abilities allowed them to dismiss and resummon the blade back to their hand; but it was an energy-intensive process... and Spectremon needed to focus every ounce of their energy on winning this fight. Losing was weakness.

The garurumon galloped away, encircling Spectremon with its powerful canine legs. Once it had repositioned itself for the charge, it leapt forth. Spectremon prepared their remaining blade, directing the tip toward the sky.

"Energy Spear!" They cried.

The already cyan glassy blade lit up with equally-cyan energy, which extended forward in a persistent two-metre-long beam. As the garurumon charged into range, Spectremon brought the beam down, ready to cut into the opposing digimon.

"Howling blaster!" Garurumon roared in return, mouth filling up with blue flame. It opened it's maw to let loose a burst of fire in retaliation. The pair were about to come to blows...

As the garurumon reached a specific point in space, an imperfectly-shaped square of its muzzle slipped away like confetti on the wind. Suddenly, it stopped in its tracks as if pinned there by this bizarre anomaly. The garurumon screamed in agony as its body began to warp toward the point as though sucked in by a black hole. Its body continued to break up into digital confetti as Spectremon's energy spear connected, cleaving a deep gash into the beast's body.

The stray pieces of garurumon began to disintegrate in the tell-tale sign of a dying digimon. Spectremon had won! They posed triumphantly as the garurumon continued to fade away at a rate that did not match the digital corruption. It was already dead, after all; thus it was decaying faster than it could be... eaten?

Spectremon strolled toward the fading creature to reclaim their blade. Ego, arrogance and triumph blinded them to the fact that they were not responsible for this outcome. As Spectremon stepped closer, the space began to warp around them. Their remaining blade brushed against the ever-growing corruption and became stuck in space, beginning to turn to confetti as well.

Spectremon let go of the weapon and watched it begin to get eaten up. Their eyes turned wide and they began to sprint away from the epicentre. But space around it continued to warp and distort, being sucked toward the ever-growing hole. In a last ditch attempt to escape it's influence, Spectremon leapt into the air... then they felt their body warp and twist in impossible ways. Reality was bending into spirals and wiggles around them... except it wasn't; it was Spectremon whose shape was losing cohesion. Whose eyes were being stretched out as their head was twisted along with their body. The corruption grew closer... but too much of the digital world had been eaten up by it to be sustained. Something snapped... and like shattered glass, all of reality that was caught in the pull of this point broke into thousands of pieces in a void of blackness. Spectremon watched as their perspective and focus blurred. Parts of their body drifted past their eyes like shards of glass... then as though gravity had just been switched on, plunged into darkness, leaving a hole in the world behind... Which slowly began to repair itself...

Spectremon awoke with the feeling of grass beneath them. Something was wrong. The grass was itchier than expected. It seemed to engulf their entire form. They even felt it against their legs. Weren't they wearing pants...?

With a deep gasp, Spectremon swiftly sat up. They found themselves in a small grassy glade surrounded by trees. Everything around them looked huge... twice as big as it should have been. Spectremon blinked and looked down at their hands...

Where they expected to see the purple flesh of their oversized clawed mitts were instead limbs that were coated with soft violet fur. That was when they realised they still felt the grass, even though they were sat up. And it was not grass. It was fur. Well that explained the pants situation... Spectremon had de-digivolved!

"No!" Spectremon-... no... Viomon... called out in frustration, their voice high pitched and squeaky in a manner that had previously been resigned to their memories. The very thought of returning to this weak form... it was enough to make them tremble.

Who cared that they had survived? Who cared where they were? They were weakened! That was all that mattered right now. Viomon screamed in anguish and slammed their fist into the ground. All that work... all that training... sure, it still affected their current strength; but being a stronger-than-normal in-training digimon was still a step below being a rookie digimon. They had to find a way to digivolve again. And fast.

Viomon hurried to stand upright, for a moment unbalanced on their tiny paws, used to the comparatively oversized feet they expected. But first... they needed to figure out where the heck they were...
The woods were far from silent. The weather was start to grow restless as winds picked up, shaking trees and rustling them for miles around.

Taking advantage of the excess noise was a young man with a ramshackle scattergun in his hands. He'd heard that the nearby woods often had strange creatures in them, many of which were highly prized by collectors and other folk with too much money on their hands. He figured that the weather wouldn't be too great a deterrent to finding them as there wasn't a rain cloud in the sky (not that he was an experienced hunter, but it seemed easier than his... usual line of work in a new area).

That's when he heard something shouting in the woods. He backed up against a tree and poked his head out around it. It seemed like a dinky, oddly colored thing, but he'd never seen an animal quote like it, so it had to be rare. He checked his ammo. Full. Good. He had two shots to plug the thing with before needing to reload. Now he just had to get in closer.
Viomon brushed grass from their legs and looked around thoughtfully. Food... they needed food. Energy. That would be the path to reclaiming their form. But this forest... it was familiar, yet different. As though this was a parallel world. Well... regardless... forests usually proved themselves to be ample sources of food. Viomon just had to go and forage. There was a feast awaiting them somewhere in these trees!

Viomon dropped to all fours and began bounding off toward the treeline that at the edge of the glade. This particular digivolution was capable of running upright, but it was significantly faster as a quadruped. Despite Spectremon's entirely bipedal nature, Viomon had not forgotten how to navigate like this. Like a human remembering how to ride a bike.

Viomon was swift for their size; but despite being one of the more agile types of digimon, they had no abilities to enhance their mobility. And even if they did, Viomon currently did not notice any reason to use them regardless.
There it went. Time to follow.

This young man may not be an expert tracker, but he was no slouch when it came to running. Once the creature started running, so did he. He bolted out from behind the tree and ran with his weapon at the ready.

"Gotcha now!" he blurted, leveling his weapon to it.
Viomon leapt up into the air mid-bound and whilst still in the air stretched out upright, turning toward the direction of the disturbance. "Not today!" They called as they pointed a hand toward what was clearly someone carrying a weapon and followed up with a quick "Psyburst!"

As Viomon began to drop down, a blast of purple energy shot out toward the aggressor. Being an in-training level move, it fitted well as a 'shoot first, ask later' attack, given its damage was limited. Still, as a psionic attack, it dealt its damage straight to the mind; and at the least would cause an uncomfortable headache.
Prologue
They've been traveling for what? Years? Surely what's one more trek across Terra? It's not like they've been having to travel this hell world for years.
This infection that they've been dealing with has been getting really concerning. First was the initial signs that they could both just pretend never happened, but once neither of them could mask the Originum crystals on their bodies, they were basically screwed from having any decent job ever again. Oripathy, whatever it was doing to her body, she felt more eyes on her, more ears on her, more judgement and mockery from these strangers. He could easily feel what they were feeling, and they were judging these two siblings for even inconveniencing them with their now-Infected bodies.
There wasn't a lot of other options available, now. They could work essentially garbage wages now, OR, they could try to check out that airship pharmacy that's been all the talk lately. Given all they'd have to do is help out this Rhodes Island in exchange for treatment and a home, that's basically deciding between dirt and gold. All they had to do was hurry to Lungmen and find the ship before this Infected organization was distracted by whatever the hell was coming their way.

As the two left their homeland and after many nights of on-foot travel, they were beginning to see what seemed to be the signs of an oncoming Catastrophe, the wind howling, the sky becoming darker and dark, though this one seemed... Different, especially since neither of them heard of the storm starting like this- nor have either of them heard of a storm with a gravitational pull. Oh Gods.

"Hold on!!!" The siblings first tried to hold their ground with a nearby tree, but this only worked for so long, and when they both lost grip, Neo-Ka curled up and prayed to whatever God gave a crap that their lives were spared as everything seemed to go black for a moment.

Quiet. Peace and quiet. Sudden peace and quiet at that. The eldest opened her eyes, the other sibling waking just beside them. What. What just happened.

".... Did we just survive a Catastrophe????" She couldn't help but ask to seemingly no one in particular, but Shad answered regardless, happily nodding and seemingly really calm, despite what happened. Holy. Holy Gods on Terra, HOW were they not killed instantly by that? The feline got herself up, keeping herself from appearing shaken by all of that. They still weren't out of the woods, and they were still on short time, they needed to keep moving.

Before they had time to really evaluate the traveling duo's position, he other sibling first heard something- Shouting. This didn't get missed by the black-haired panther either, and given whatever nonsense that shout was, there's probably a reason it was a shout in the first place, and it sounded pretty close on top of that.

"What the hell- Alright, ugh. Are we checkin' that out?"
"Yep!" That was a cry for help! Time to save the day, and they haven't even gotten to Rhodes Island yet! Such an thrilling day, a Catastrophe AND conflict!

"The Tails of Fury at your service!!~" The feline shouted as the two ran into the clearing, the smaller with a particular spring in her step.

"Did you really need to come up with a team name..." Her sister grumbled as she unsheathed the shining black bat, seeming to assess this person and... Creature. While the staff-wielding feline was just as confused by what was happening, it didn't stop her from giving a reassuring grin.

"Annnnyway, if you're in distress, no need to fear, we got you covered!"

This would be helpful, if it wasn't glaringly obvious the brown-haired panther and her accomplice seemed to have no idea who actually needed the help right now. Oops. It would be far too easy to just convince one of them if someone talked fast enough.. And the panther next to her didn't seem to be playing around, eyeing either of them and seeming to size up and determine how easy it would be to leave them battered, burned, and bruised.
Leo fired off a shot before it escaped into the trees. Still, it jumped out of range of his shot before scrambling away. Then it jumped down and did... something to him. All he knew is that his head hurt and he staggered back.

"Son of a— Get down here!"

That's when he noticed the two strange animal people. Scratch that, these were cute animal girls!

"Whoa! Whoa there!" Leo shouted. "No need to be unfriendly, ladies. Name's Leo. You two just fall from heaven, or you been here a while?"

He propped his gun on his shoulder and sauntered up to the two of them, a swagger in his step.
Viomon watched the attacker begin to walk away as they landed.

Now this would not do...

They clenched their fists and strolled after him in annoyance. "Hey! Where do you think you're going!? I'm your opponent here! Fight me, or admit defeat! If-... if you don't fight me, then that means I'm the winner, alright!?"

Viomon wasn't quite as confident as their tone suggested, but they needed to look tough. And to win, of course.
More shouting, but the voice was far too different, this wasn't the one that cried for help, there. The other humanoid seemed non-aggressive, though the combination of nonsense he was rambling and the sudden approach didn't help her nerves, stepping back whilst still gripping the bat. What language was even spoken... Focusing on the speech wasn't helping matters either, it sounded completely foreign to him.

"Shads, what's he saying? This ain't Columbian."
Her sibling gave a great question. Unfortunately for her, she had no idea! It could be one of the lesser-known dialects, but unfortunately, she only knew a couple of other languages. If she just responded in one of these, could she try to convince him to speak something they understand?

"Sorry, I don't know that! I can speak in Yen or Ursan though, take your pick!" She responded in first Yen, but before she can try asking in Ursan as well, the creature caught her attention, and to a bit of her worry, there was pure gibberish to the panther's ears too. Even weirder, it sounded like two different forms of foreign languages.. This might get awkward.

"Uh, sorry, don't know what you're saying!!" She waved both her hands in what seemed to be an apologetic look to the both of them as she also signaled to her ears. The creature though, despite sounding familiar to both siblings, was also giving some form of aggression, if the fists were anything to go by. Shadow however, was moreso just completely lost.
A strange device on Leo's wrist buzzed and spoke into his ear, telling him that it detected a language it recognized.

"Okay, let's see. How do ya work this thing...?" He poked at it, bringing up a hologram or two and before long, it seemed to give him what he wanted.

He spoke into the wrist device, and it produced his words translated into the first language it had heard the girls use.

The words they would hear first were the following: "Hey there, sexy thing 1 and sexy thing 2. How's about we head into town and get to know each other better?"
"Hey, don't ignore me!" Viomon growled. "Right, that does it."

Viomon raised an arm in Leo's direction. "Psyburst!"

They let out another blast of annoying headache-inducing psionic energy.

"Admit defeat, you coward!"
Oh, those words just oozed venom. This was visibly angering the elder panther before she spat back.

"Yeah? An' how about you get a taste of THIS, shitball!" The feline lunged at Leo, readying a swing when-

"YA-?!?!" A tug from behind made the swing barely miss, a force of metal and flame Arts slamming harshly onto the ground settling on all's feet. Who the hell- Neo-Ka was pushed back into a hand, their sister's.
Thank goodness she was paying attention, or- that attack that was apparently also happening would not be the only thing this dude would be left with. Oh Gods, this was already going south fast. She dragged her sister behind to get a bit of distance between the two parties so they could talk. Hopefully the guy got distracted by that creature long enough to let them have this.

Once she could, she confronted in a harsher , quieter voice. "Neo, what was that??"

"You heard the way the bald hairball was talkin'! What, do we have to stand for that?!"

"I-" .. She can't say she blames her for getting upset. If this was back home, they could just turn around and head home, but... They're in a tricky spot. "We normally don't, but... We're almost there. We just need to be polite until we get into the city itself. We can go our own ways then. Just... Please, let's try to be as nice as possible right now? We really can't mess this up."

"... Fine. But we get in actual danger I'm not exactly gonna stop short of raisin' hell."

With that, the youngest quickly rushed back up to where he was. Just got to.. Be nice until they get into the city, yeah. "Er, sorry about that- but I'm willing to go! Just, er." She.. Should probably cover up. Her tail hid itself in her jacket as she bundled up, hiding her shoulders. "Don't you need help, first??" Maybe if she played sweet enough, she can make up for... That...
Leo took the psychic blast, and then the ground shook with the other attack they both just barely evaded. The young man sat up quickly and reached for his weapon, only to find that he'd dropped it. So he reached for his side-arm... which turned out to be an aluminum baseball bat with a garish logo on it.

"Get over you little ball of snot!"

He then proceeded to chase around the little thing while swinging around his bat like a crazy person.

"Don't you embarrass me in front of the hot girls! You totally spiked my bad-boy-with-a-heart-of-gold routine!"

Every word he shouted was then translated for the girls to understand.
Despite feeling hungry and low on energy, Viomon was oddly enthused by the decision to confront them. Unfortunately, they didn't currently have much to counter the swinging bat with, save for occasionally firing off more blasts of psychic energy. They had to resort to evading the swings and hopping around on all-fours, looking for a fresh opportunity.

"You should have thought of that before you picked a fight with me!"

When they saw what looked like an opening, they attempted to scramble up Leo's back, which seemed like a safe enough place to obtain victory.
From how it looked, Neo's attack wasn't noticed- Or at least it didn't seem like this guy didn't react to it. Phew. On one hand, she was grateful one of them could switch to a language she could understand, but she cringed somewhat as a response to what the young man was shouting. Though, this was getting upsetting, seeing this fight continue. Even with her grievances, standing around watching this continue on was grating, surely there must be a way for them to reconcile? Shad briefly looked behind her as if to ask her sibling silently for help to quell this fighting.

The sibling behind Shadow, frankly, did not seem to care if this guy got really roughed up, if her Gods be damned expression was anything to go by.

Since it seemed that Neo was unwilling to help, she's going to have to stop this alone. But where to start...?

Shad spotted Spectremon after a second of looking, almost panicking upon seeing them on this guy's back. Can she startle them enough to make them pause??

A thought made in a hurried moment, she tried out the only idea she could think of- A warning shot. She grips her staff, a shadowy form manifesting before she aims it just far enough to miss, firing the Art at both of their sides. "Hey, please stop this!"
Leo paused upon hearing the shot.

"Whoa! Whoa! Take it easy!" Leo shouted, raising his hands dissarmingly. "We can all have a good time together. We just... gotta, like, not blow each other's heads off."

He turned to grunt at the little creature on his back. "That means you too, unless ya wanna have yer head-body blown ta bits, got it?"

His wrist device translated these things for the girls, but when Leo raised his hands, the device started to glow, reacting to the creature near it. The creature would start to feel a flow of data entering its body. Languages, locations, unheard of phenomenon began to pour in, but all fighting for their attention. The data flooded their mind and body, very slowly recooperating lost energy.
