Zira is an island nation with a population of approximately 60 million people. The largest and capital city is Asbest and is located in the centre of the country, on the south coast. It is highly industrious, with a heavy focus on manufacturing and shipping. The smaller island is known as Bandar which is inhabited by only around fifty thousand people and has a reputation for being old fashioned and low tech.

A distinctive trait of native Ziran people tend to have red eyes and white or light-grey hair. However, people from all walks of life have settled on the island over many centuries and people of all appearances call Zira their home.

Another notable aspect is that the oldest man in the family often wears their hair long. Historically, many families could not afford to send all their children to school. The younger children, who would be expected to work on the farm or at sea would have to keep their hair short for protection, whereas the eldest son who was sent to school had the luxury of growing it long. This is a bit of an old-fashioned tradition, and many younger people choose to not follow it.
