Fairmeadow is amazing. That is all.
OK that is not all. I honestly consider this comic required reading. At the time of posting this, you can probably binge their archives in less than an hour. I was crying before the end of chapter one. The art is gorgeous, it pulls no punches when it comes to war and difficult interpersonal relationships. It's an amazing read, and I recommend it to everyone.
From the website:
Goma, a wayward Orcish soldier, finds herself in Fairmeadow, a commune of pacifists deep in the Cascadian wilderness. Isolation has allowed the commune to thrive in the shadow of a century-long war, but Goma’s arrival brings troubling reminders of the world outside to those who have settled there in search of respite. Fairmeadow’s enigmatic leader, Sanctuary, finds his utopian vision challenged as he struggles to keep the peace. Their self-sufficiency exists on thin margins - margins that threaten to break if Goma cannot learn to live alongside those who she has sworn to fight.
Fairmeadow is a post-epic fantasy drama inspired by the counter-cultural movements of the late 60’s, the landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, and tabletop RPG’s. It’s about the collision of idealism against pragmatism, reckoning with the consequences of dropping out, and trying to make its readers want to go on a hike.

Barame and Adael are on their balcony. Adael is seated, looking through the bars while Barame stands.
Barame: Don't worry, I do a better job than Losay. I do his hair too you know.
Barame holds a tuft of Adael's hair between his fingers and snips it with scissors.
Adael's hair is significantly shorter. Barame runs a comb through a hair, and uses scissors to cut against it.
Adael spots two people on the street outside the apartment. One is a man with a shaved head and a black leather jacket. The other is a blonde woman in a denim jacket with many patches on it. Both of them are wearing red bandanas.
Adael: Who are those guys down there?
Barame (off panel): Oh them? They're the Centurions.
