A small group of adventurers have been employed to seek out several priests who were expected to return to the mainland a month previously. They were engaged in recording ancient glyphs discovered etched into giant stone tablets dotted around the islands. The island is seldom visited except by fishermen and a few hunters during the spring and summer yet they refrained from exploring the land for fear of the unknown and the feeling of being watched.
This land has barely been explored. There are creatures and entities inspired by Celtic/Nordic and possibly another culture. Not only the sense of creepyness about the place but lights have been witnessed moving in the night sky, strange calls from the mountains, whispers in the twilight. The hunters and fishermen have mentioned people disappearing along the shore and close to the woods.

Still very much interested, but I want to wait and see what character I could offer that would fit well.
There's no rush. I am looking for characters whose origins reflect a particular region. Possibly with characteristics from a culture that hasn't really been explored much in regards to fantasy, unlike Celtic and Nordic.
Understood, thank-you.
Iβll keep my eye on this thread.

I'm picturing a world where people have been known to disappear in the woods and there are more paranormal encounters than the common menagerie of fantasy monsters. Or perhaps creatures based on older legends from cultures in the northern hemisphere.
I can look up ideas from our own range of different cultures here and see if anything could be adapted.
The island is in the northern hemisphere and though not a large island people had at one time tried to settle there. There are a few house foundations close to the shore and low walls but the occupants had disappeared decades previously. No one knows what happened to the small community.
This island is called Ianven, which means ill will in the elven language.
Ianven is a place where the Csend elves exile their criminals, hence Rhalef is transported there. The group of 2-3 adventurers have possibly come from the human kingdom where the priests originated from. The priests could be from diverse backgrounds and faiths and have collaborated for the excavation.

This sounds great. I'll make a new character. Any requirements I need to know?
Look for something unique. Explore human races that are rare in fantasy worlds.
Edit: In fantasy, there is a tendency to generalize human races and forget about culture.

Meet Safa. He's bare bones at the moment but will he fit your story?

I'll do more work on him at the weekend. Thanks. βΊοΈ ππ½
The priests were studying these unusual standing stones. They will be in a line of 100 meters apart from the beach heading in a northern direction towards the mountains.
I had considered beginning the story on the beach at the hunter's camp. The human group arrives first and meets the hunters and fishermen, then another boat comes into sight and lands with several Csend elves, one of which has bound wrists.

Thank you, Safakal and Cynewulf. I'm happy to see two very talented writers interested in my idea.
That will only encourage overindulgence in mead. LOL
