IMPORTANT——The Excessive Eighties world is built around a few guiding principles. We look to movies and shows to be an escape from the (often unfortunate) reality of our every day lives and with that thought in mind please be aware of the below:
-
☀️ Utopia Clause ☀️
BE EXCELLENT!The Excessive 80s operates in a wonderful, fantasy land where somehow the following (non-exhaustive) list doesn't exist in Los Sueños: racism, sexism, homophobia, antisemitism, ableism, etc
You are more than free to explore these themes in your own private RPs, I just ask that you not do so within the TE80s. Note that this does not count for backstories, only current happenings in Los Sueños, so your character could still have encountered these elsewhere. Feel free to start fights with someone over the color of their clothes, but please leave the color of their skin out of it. Thanks!

🎨 Artistic License 🎨
TROPERRIFIC!Media speaks to us in the form of tropes which can be used to spice up our own roleplays. Subvert, deconstruct, zig-zag, or avert them entirely, it's your choice. At the end of the day tropes are tools for us to use (and abuse) all in the mighty pursuit of The Vibe™.
Looking for inspiration? Consider converting to the Church of TV Tropes the All Devouring. You might start with The 80s only to blink and find yourself looking at Klingon Promotions several hours later when something finally pulls you out of the tropetastic rabbit hole. Good luck, happy browsing!

——The rest of the rules are pretty straight forward, no-brainer material. In a world filled with IC excess it is important to remember that OOCly:
-
1. Bill & Ted's Law
——Simply put: Be Excellent To Each Other, please treat everyone with respect
2. 18+ IC/OOC
——This group is an 18+ community, players and characters should be over the age of 18 (NPCs excluded)
3. While in an RP please keep OOC in the appropriate channel
——The "#rp-ooc" channel in the "RP: OOC" Category is for commentary on an RP, everything else should go to the main "#ooc-chat" channel in the "OOC" Category
4. Keep information that you learned OOCly to yourself
——While this doesn't stop people from sharing information OOCly between players it does stop people from bringing OOC to IC (vice versa). Taking things that happen ICly to OOC is also a no-no and will hurt fellow players and the community as a whole.
5. IC Actions have IC Consequences
——If your character goes on a maniacal killing spree there will (unfortunately, right?) be dire consequences. They will likely (hopefully, eventually) be caught and punished for their crimes.
6. Our continuity is self contained
——Meaning another groups might be within the same decade, but not necessarily in the same continuity. Your character's backstory, so long as it doesn't impose great changes on the world's continuity, doesn't need to be changed.
7. Quality preferred over Quantity
——Post lengths can be flexible to fit the scene but wherever possible we strive to give our RP partners something to work with.
-
CHARACTER CREATIONHere's a list of things to keep in mind when creating a character. You can create either a Player Character (PC) or a Non Player Character (NPC), art/face claims/etc are not require for either.
-
1. Have fun!
——The whole point of TE80s is to play around with the 80s as a celebration of the genre. Go wild — build your character around the concept of an existing 80s star, get lost in tropes, make something unique or someone faithful to the decade. If you're not enjoying an RP, spice it up!
2. 1984 Only
——This includes backstories, clothing, possessions, etc. Anything made up until 1984 is acceptable, exceptions can be made within reason. This counts for things there were literally made in the 80s (like the movie Karate Kid) as well as things that were made later but inspired by the 80s (like Hawkins High in Stranger Things).
3. PCs have to be 18 or Older
——Player characters are required to be 18 years or older. NPCs are the only exception and can be any age but if an NPC is underage they must be accompanied by a PC (ex: a parent with their child).
4. Humans Only
——The E80s is a fictional take on a period piece, as such it is a setting that only allows for human PCs; NPCs are allowed to be either human or animal. Real life people are not allowed, neither are canon characters.
5. Mundane Only
——The E80s might be a fictional world but it is still grounded in reality. Unfortunately there are no supernatural killers, aliens, or cyborgs here, only the rad-but-ultimately-normal earthlings.
6. Consent Rule
——PCs and NPCs can be No Consent, Conditional Consent, or Consent Only. Please respect what another player has set up for their characters and be sure to provide your own so that everyone is on the same page.
