——"A suburb so sleepy it's practically comatose. On the one hand it's got the oh-so-illustrious UCLS, on the other hand it's so chock full of family friendly atmosphere I could just about choke."

The main draw, besides the view, to Buena Vista was the esteemed UCLS, home of Tiny the Tapir. A blend of homes and businesses, mostly frequented by suburban families and college kids, had sprung up around it and it was one of the safer districts in the city. Take a date and have a nice night on the town or a fun, family friendly affair, it's Los Sueños' quintessential 'upstanding place'.

OVERVIEW

The University of California, Los Sueños offers programs in a wide variety of disciplines, enrolling thousands of students every year. UCLS is considered one of the "Public Ivies" and, much like its sister university UCLA, it is frequently ranked as one of the best in the country.

MOTTO: IN SOMNIS VERITAS - (In dreams there is truth)
ESTABLISHED: 1934
COLORS: Dark Blue 3rBdj2r.png Red Orange
MASCOT: Tiny the Tapir

TRADITIONS
From its earliest days UCLS students have been creating traditions going all the way back to the early 1930s when it was founded.
UCLS borrows their signature tapir mascot from the local zoo and is used to take the field for home games.
Like its sister school UCLA students participate in the "Midnight Yell" during Finals week where they take a break from studying and do just that.

SPORTS
UCLS student-athletes compete against UCLA's Bruins as their main rival. The Tapirs have won several championships for Baseball.

HOUSING
Several housing options available on the south end of campus (referred to by students as The Vista). Options range from the co-ed, low-cost Moreno Hall, Palm Plaza, or the privacy of a university apartment.

DAILY DREAMER
The UCLS student run newspaper that began publishing in 1934 when the university was founded. It publishes roughly 4,000 copies across the campus each school day.

CAMPUS RADIO
WOXY 97X (97.7) was first launched in 1972 by a group of students who installed a 10-watt transmitter in the Music Annex. Bands that have yet to hit commercial success are often featured on WOXY, including R.E.M., The Cure, and Depeche Mode.

ROCK BOTTOM LOUNGE

The RBL opened in 1976 as a nightclub and restaurant combo primarily frequented by college students from UCLS. Live music includes local acts, student musicians, and a new wave DJ. Each Halloween there's a legendary costume party.

PARTY BLUFF

Under the age of 21? Without a fake ID to get into a bar or a spontaneous house party to go to most make the trek up into the wooded hills to party. A late night bonfire serves as an impartial meeting place for everyone regardless of Cool Kid status and kegs of cheap beer are the fuel for a fun time. The local police rarely get calls for Party Bluff shenanigans due to its distance from any houses.

OTHER LOCATIONS

Toby's Bar & Grille (Pizza Joint)
Toby's Bar & Grille was somewhere between 'local favorite' and 'unknown dive', a sweet spot where it was highly recommended but often overlooked due to it's unique blend of diner-meets-Siccily style. The menu item everyone recommended were their buffalo chicken wings for cheap and their fine selection of pinball machines, a claw machine, and sticker dispenser by the entrance. All in all it was a disarming, constantly open place with a smiling weasel mascot and its own little charm.

[...] An easy Friday night at the “Italian” joint named Toby’s Bar and Grille, at six thirty pee-em! A lot of it was actually diner food with some…. vaguely Sicilian stuff, but that was fine, because they had Buffalo chicken wings for cheap, plus three really cool games: a pinball machine with El Dorado, the City of Gold, Pac-man, and Space Shuttle!!

[...] Toby’s was a disarming, constantly open little place in Buena Vista, with a mascot of a smiling weasel at the top of the entrance and a claw plush machine and stickers at the lobby.
