Littered along the Heartland are zombies, a plentiful amount as well. The following list will go over the types of zombies as well as other things you might encounter on your trip.
Zombie
Your average run-of-the-mill zombie. Comes in many shapes and sizes. With feasting the only thing on their mind, they will mindlessly shamble to its meal with a slow pace, allowing you to simply run away from it if you aren't looking for a fight, though some zombies will mindlessly
run towards you, which isn't all that fast but can quickly gain on you when you weren't expecting it. Best way to kill it is to aim for the head, or just blow it apart with a well-placed shotgun blast. Of course, removing limbs with melee weapons works too, and a little head dismemberment is just as fine if you don't wanna make noise
Armored Zombie
The same as the first zombie, but covered in fully protective SWAT armor, being immune to both bullets and melee. The only way to destroy it is to knock off the helmet, and destroy the head. Or of course, explosives. Those work too.
Plague Zombie
Faster then the normal undead, Plague zombies are commonly found in Plague Nest infested areas, and are much stronger and faster and able to infect people with the Blood Plague. Too much infection and you catch the disease, being unable to help out until you are either cured or put down. Take them out like any normal zombie, though they are often pack hunters, travelling together
Now for the Freaks, advanced versions of zombies that can easily take you out, no questions asked.
Bloater
A sickly green zombie with a really big belly stuffed with gas, get to close and it'll blow up, filling your lungs with a putrid gas that blocks your air ways until you either die or go away from the cloud of gas to let your lungs clear up. Shoot them in the head to kill them instantly and not blow up the belly releasing the gas, or shoot it in the belly which does the same thing as shooting it in the head but it releases the gas from the belly. Do not consider melee combat.
Feral
A zombie that is, quite literally, feral. Moving on all four legs, it will chase you down at a much faster rate then you could run before pouncing and tearing you apart. They can also climb walls and fences so hopping over a few fences wont save you. Your best bet is to put a bullet in its dome before it charges, as it seems to be really resillient, much more then the average zombie. Or if you're quick enough, smack it with a melee weapon.
Screamer
Guess what they do? They scream, which alerts several other zombies to there position for backup since they can't really fight, missing both arms. The scream can shatter windows and car glass, as well as stun you leaving you vulnurable to whatever could happen. suspectible to melee combat and ranged weapons, shoot them in the head before they scream to decrease the waves of zombies flowing to you.
Juggernaut
The lord of all zombies, Juggernauts are absolute powerhouses, capable of ramming through buildings like it's nobodies business, stopping speeding cars in there tracks, as well as just pick up and rip off your body in half. Capable of survivng multiple explosions and multiple .50 caliber rounds to the face, the best way to take out the Juggernaut is to hit it until it falls over to recover, then climb up it and destroy its skull.
Plague Nest
Not even considered an actual zombie, Plague Nests are stationary mounds of zombie corpses that are formed under unknown circumstances, spreading the Blood Plague to nearby zombies, and occasionally infecting freaks as well. Making buildings nearby them unhabitable, it is necessary to take these out as soon as you can, though you will need a lot of firepower. The Plague Nests are usually always surrounded by zombies, and when attacking a Plague Nest, it will emit signals for backup. Destroying one clears the air of the Blood Plague, and kills every zombie infected by it.
Plague Feral
Much more stronger then the normal Feral, Plague Ferals are known to be as fast as a moving vehicle, often forcing people in cars to try to outmanuever a Plague Feral, it is physically impossible to outrun one on foot making combat the only option. Aiming for the head as per usual, try to land a clean headshot or manage to smack it down with the extremely small window you have.
Plague Juggernaut
Juggernaut times 10. The big boy becomes even more big and bullet spongy. You better have the ammo for this guy, it's gonna take an entire team to take one out
