The premise here is that the prince often escapes the palace (even if it is forbidden for him to do so without escort) so he makes his friend/manservant dress up like the prince and take his place whilst he goes awol... unarmed and without escort... all sorts of events and adventures can happen to the reckless prince, the unsuspecting maid he's about to encounter by chance and the loyal 'prince' substitute who has to fill in for his friend and act like royalty amid a coming engagement and royal wedding

Are we okay if Elena lives in the poorer part of town, that outer ring that is mentioned? Or were you hoping she was a live in at the castle?

Sounds perfect, if you want... she can live with grandpa Zach a retired village healer with not 2 silver coin to his name

No, they wouldn't necessarily be blood related / real family.

It is likely when step mother kicked Elena out of the manor, the healer heard of this went with her to help shelter/take care of Elena.

With the small herbs stall not giving enough, she was forced to go back to her former home and work there as a paid maid but cannot stay/sleep at the manor any more "this is not your house" sort to speak.

If that is alright I want to hear your ideas too since Zach in NPC and Elena your main character, the background story runs on your preferences

Perhaps he was once dotting. And he is merely doing this to secure her future. (And his power).

Vincent is a scheming duke... the bad guy of the movie... that being said forcing the marriage between Vanessa and the prince ensures her comfortable future and his ongoing power.
She would never assume he is an evil man, he does dote on her, dresses, jewellery, feasts... he knows her looks are important in court if she is to attract the prince's attentions

So a doting Father who is steeped in tradition and politics.

Okay okay I can see that. So let me voice how I’m seeing this and you tell me yay or nay (because honestly, I haven’t seen Cinderella in a while and I have seen none of the remakes ha ha!)

So Elena lived in a manor with the evil stepmother and stepsister, some event led to her being kicked out of the manor (hmm. Maybe something that would have shamed the evil step mother? Or I think in the original story, Cinderella’s sweet dad died and after that they didn’t care for her as much or something like that right? So maybe Elena’s father fell ill and once he died, she was kicked out of house ) so Elena went and was roughing it on the streets when Zach took her in. He taught her some things, his way of the trade, but maybe it became too much to support her and him with just his small booth so Elena is going to go crawling back to the manor to see if she can make some money being a maid there?

And just so I understand correctly, is the evil stepmother in the same class as the prince? Or is she lower middle-class?

Vincent, Vanessa, step-mum, step-sister, dead dad = nobility
Zerald, Lancelot, Prodius = knights and guards = military
Sebastian, Ella, Zach, etc = commoners, peasants, lower class
