Stone Park Cemetery

Location Native to: World #10025 - Barbary Grove

Though officially established in the 60s, it’s rumored that Stone Park Cemetery is actually older than Barbary Grove itself, and while it’s still an active graveyard, it’s also a draw for the curious. Nestled in the midst of a circle of old, enormous oak trees, this shady place is famous for its reclining stone lions, which can be found in various places all over the cemetery. Some of them are small, peering watchfully down from the tops of vine choked crypts, and others are big enough to sit in between the paws of. All of the lions have ornately carved, feathered wings, and seem to have been made with expert care.

No one’s really sure of the artist, but every few years it seems, a new lion appears in the graveyard, and when it does, it’s always in the papers the next day. The winged lions of Stone Park Cemetery are a time honored Barbary Grove mystery.

Information & Things to See
Established in 1965, Stone Park Cemetery is most well known for its famous stone lions. No one knows who made or placed these lovingly carved stone lions, but rumors abound, from a host of friendly local artists looking to keep a story alive, to the urban legend that a real life vampire stalks between the misty stones at night, every so often leaving a new token in the cemetery in honor of a long lost mortal lover buried there. Stories differ as to which headstone belongs to this lover.

Either way, there's no denying that the lions are beautiful, or that a new one does indeed seem to appear every few years. The cemetery is a popular tourist spot to those in the know, and our gates are always open to respectful visitors. Just be sure to stay on the paths, and to keep in mind that Stone Park Cemetery is still an active burial ground. Please give space to grieving families.

Ghost tours are held in the cemetery on select Saturdays each month as long as weather permits.
