Hio!!!
So! I am a butt and I need to get on the Crow Bar Soft Open (Thursday July 25th 2024) for friends and family, which is y'all! And then some!
Feel free to be any NPCs & drama, of course!!!
Friday July 26 2024 is the official opening. Maybe some meta humans come from out of town, maybe there's some drama!?! Entertainers? Dj? Radio host? We could introduce small villains? Rivals? Some dickhead degen from upcountry*?! (Letterkenny*)
I'm interested in exploring Spring 2023, Vik commissions Jackson for an enchanted ice cup as she goes through the year of planning to open. She's having Caprice build furniture, she'd be hiring a landscaper and has all sorts of renovations and contract projects.
She probably also needs funding, so maybe she is dealing with that.
Maybe Jackson helps ward the place, or even a variety of meta human cultural markers to signify that The Crow Bar is a safe business to visit.
I imagine she wants local products, gifts, decor etc.
that whole year and opening process is a lot of possible threads that can happen!
But also, if you want to plan an event out and do it later, we got time!
Wibbly wobbly in the OOC way!!!
I love noting ideas and having discussions
To see where it goes.
Pearline would always be buying regular books, tea & flowers for town hall, city events, holidays, etc!
Gil is probably just busy kissing people.
Vik has weird dreams and she's been struggling with that for 15-18 years now.
She doesn't want it.
Doesn't understand it, and doesn't think it's anything worth while or comparable to, say, Jackson's talent.
She does a lot of silly shit to keep it at bay/ sleep. But, is also probably just making it worse. I imagine she sees half or less of the info, partial stories, metaphors, symbols. So she's a grumpy Gus, but, Gil keeps her in check. Ish.
They are basically like Richie & Carmy & Fak from The Bear. 🤣
Another thread: on a Friday, Caprice reports to Pearline while working late that an entire house (drive way & all) except the nearby well & mailbox, has disappeared.
AND! That it appears part of the living room from the house is now partially located in the nearby woods.
1. She's left a message with the deputy for the Sheriff
2. There's probably an interview in the AM.
3. Possibly also magical investigations
4. A town hall meeting to warn people to stay away. 5. And also involving the DIS agent?!
Or someone else?
Are interested or bad parties involved?
Magical random event?
Deep ones?
Angry Mountain or Forest?
What are Your:
Other ideas?
What's going on at the spoopy church in the mountains?
Stuff in the mines?
History?
Drama?
Awkward cute things?
Villains?

Yes hello, so I was thinking that with Jackson's move he also has to move his minions from one location to another. There could be the echoing of marching in the dead of night, skeletal footprints and even dead animals (that were killed in the defense of the skeletal army) left before they suddenly disappear in the area of the spoopy church.
I think Jackson is the only magic user (please correct me), so that raises the question: Is magic innate or can it be awakened? Of course, this is going to potentially give way to the faction issue that he was trying to get away from, as he grew tired of the fickleness of the factions and wanted to trounce them all with his aforementioned army and control his home city.

YES. some old hunting dudes seeing crazy shit at night.
"Larry... Larry wake up. I saw an army of skeletons...."
"Dan.... you're fuckin drunk. Go to sleep."
next morning, a field of random dead animals like.... 100 feet away from where they slept.
Jackson for Mayor King 2024. Defend your home, Join the Skeleton Army today!!! no refunds*
HUM.
I'll let everyone else decide. I think control of magic or abilities could be tamed, for example maybe if Vik would stop bitching .... and being a sad drunk.... she could figure out how to temper her dreams or learn more about it and use it safely.
In N0s4atu, Joe Hill's Vic McQueen travels via a weird bridge that literally other people can see when it appears... and she gets hurt like, every time she uses it. I love and hate that. and I spoiled the book for myself, and I was pissed that it seems she never learns to do it safely.
I could post up some info for the cult/gang I have plans to use here too, if anyone is interesteddd

YES PLEASE!
I think we can get some great stuff going!
These are both a great chance to provide opportunities for anyone to mix it up and play together in different moments that impact the town in different ways.
We could have an everyone together show down for overcoming big stuff. Or it could all be smaller events over time and everyone drinks about it at the bar, exchanging stories.
There's a lot of stuff we could explore.
Let's discuss it all!

Cap is also a magic user/alchemist. If Jackson knows a good bit of buried/forbidden knowledge, like 'In the beginning' old hidden stuff let me know. Cap just wears pretty fucking hefty magic dampeners and binding jewelry, so it's not really known about him besides the people who can clock his rings and the spells he's put on his shop.
But I think for magic as a general it could be both?? People born into it tend to have more knowledge and a better grasp and ability to weld it but things can happen like deals with creatures and objects stuff that can bump it up so a normal person can 'awaken' to it.
I'd planned for my lads to be magic users to a degree too. Enoch is just way more subtle, skilled and refined with it than Rory (who blew up part of the tea shop lmao)

Not a lot, the sigil he has provides previous heralds' information but nothing pertaining to primordial things. At most, primordial things will set off his sensors as it's something weird. If the dampeners aren't primordial based, along with the jewelry, then he can clock it.
Okay, great, then the Focuses section of his store have more purpose, ha.

They're a bit of both. A bunch of layers of primordial magic as well as newer as sort of a hail Mary. So, at some point Cap might swing by to get help if he's desperate enough for new stuff.
But we shall see where the story takes us! I think the shop is a good idea overall. Dude might be the only help if something goes sideways lolol (Foreshadowing. Mwahaa)
Bad guys spice up every RP. General idea for dangers around Laurel Hill…
- Some cultists, that probably would like to sacrifice people, especially supernatural creatures, to their eldritch gods for brownie points.
- The local KKK-chapter is somehow still alive and kicking, and the grand dragons won't accept any regular dragons around, because of the envy (Nazis and alike always make excellent bad guys)
- Zombies could walk around and hunger for the flesh of the living. Maybe there is a careless necromancer, or one with ambitions behind it.
- Maybe some personalized villains? We could have a minor villain-exchange program, where people play each other villains as NPCs!
There's an old sort of cult/gang that Enoch and Rory have been causing grief for. The Red Dragoons. I haven't yet established how long they've been around or how far their reach is for this setting, but I DO know they have one hell of a penchant for fire. I'm open to brainstorming more ideas to solidify them more into the scheme of things, in some way or another.
Their leader is known as The Charioteer - allegedly died roughly 20 years ago, around the same time that Enoch and Rory moved to and settled into Laurel Hill, fully assuming that this chapter of their life in the way of dealing with The Red Dragoons had finally ended. They still track down and intercept the stragglers - all in secret of course - and take whatever they're hauling, to repurpose it. Would be interesting to have some folks find out/get wound up in that sort of thing, find out the hidden life the brothers live.
As for the leader of the Red Dragoons - Big Red is still alive and kicking, had been spending the twenty years recovering, calculating, setting new things in motion to get back at the brothers, and whomever else is associated with them. He'll be sending one of his best to get the job done.

I fucking love that. If anyone ends up playing Cap's be prepared to be an aabbsooluutee piece of work.
Also the poofing house we can use that anomaly as a way to even drop chars into the past for a few scenes and then they can relive the nightmare with whomever fell in with them.

Would be funny if Jackson reveals his big secret during a town hall meeting as he cites why Zombies are awful minions and should be used as area denial at best, "salting" the earth at worse.

Jackson (under his breath): Amateur.
Chief of police: …which might be connected to the theft of the Necronomicon Ex Mortis from the city-museum a month ago…
Jackson (muttering): Amateur.
Chief of police: We believe it to be part of a blood ritual, where the life force that is freed when the zombies kill or turn someone will be used by the necromancer to turn himself into a lich…
Jackson (shouting): Amateur! Also that is not how any of this works!
(everyone is looking at him)
Jackson: …or so I heard?

Oh no, it'd much worse/damning. He'd leave and then returning with two skeletons carrying a zombie with a metal bucket over its head before getting to the podium, which the chief of police is scrambling for his gun to point towards Jackson who is now bearing his bident.
Jackson: "Before us, you will see one of these zombies and my two minions... Look at this two bit amateur's work! I mean, sure, using our own dead is bad and sCaRy but guess what? I can burn them! As seen here!" He engulfs the trio which leaves the bucket behind and the skeletons shrug it off. "See?!"
Chief of Police: Dewell!
Jackson: Chief Mother, why the hell would this two bit hack, this fucking technicolored baboon use zombies for an Ascension ritual? Too noisy, we'd spot the signs of them, whereas my skeletal warriors would rout all the police FIRST THEN forcibly gather all of us in Smackers' Park in a magical circle to DRAIN US of our mana and then the surrounding area! Leave this child to me, my army will quickly handle the zombies and I'll bring him to your office. Or his head. Depends on how much he offends my senses with his bullshit. Don't forget, we have an all new Zombie Defense kit at Faust's Fount. Please check the 'New Arrival' shelves! Excuse me, I have a primordial nematode to stomp into a grave!
Pinging this for new friends!
