“Monetary System”

The monetary system was instituted in Sha’Lazar during the First Dominion War. The first coins of a unified Sha’Lazar were minted with the likeness of the then Amir of the Rash’ani. At the Rash’ani-Utican Accords of 4744 Fz, this was changed so that the coins could be used everywhere without offense.

They were minted with a block 'V' with a hollow circle set above it. The basic unit of currency became the Tandin. A Tandin was a half-pound of ore , that equaled to one ounce of silver. All suspicious bars and coins were taken to the Chief Treasurer for verification of weight, as the Rash’ani were very precise.

Rash’ani monetary history is usually traced back to the tea houses of Utica. At that time moneychangers were already called bankers, though the term "bank" usually referred to their offices.

Teahouse proprietors overheard many conversations about business and even made modest investments themselves. They came up with the idea of producing lists of share prices or shipping data. The weekly published lists of the Utican tea houses, simply pasted to the door, made it possible for the first time to compare the relative success of bankers and investment opportunities; which was much more efficient than word of mouth. These lists eventually were published twice weekly in a newsletter of share and commodity prices. This list led to the establishment of the famous Utican Registry of Shipping.
