Dreams could be a reality, couldn’t they? If someone hoped and believed hard enough, it could happen, right? It was hope, and belief that Aubree wanted to believe in as she sat, hidden in the back of a pickup truck she had climbed in while on the run for her life. Light blue eyes looked out at the passing highways for a few hours as she let the events of the past few weeks surface in her mind.
She wasn’t even sure where to begin, because it just made her angry, and it made what lived inside even angrier. That ball of rage had carried her through the past few weeks, while she tried to deal with the loss of her entire life. As she dealt with the bloodied images that shifted and ripped through her soul like a poison tipped arrow stuck and spinning in her brain. She didn’t even know if she could build a new life with the way the images tormented the woman. Those blue eyes closed for a while as the lull of the highway moved past her sensitive ears, but they opened again when she heard the truck beginning to slow.
When it slowed enough, Aubree stealthily slid out of the back before she was noticed among the tools and tarp, slipping her backpack and all her current possessions over her leather clad shoulder. Light and long blonde hair hung out from under a checkered plaid hood attached to the shirt she wore under the leather. Well-worn, though dirty, blue jeans formed around muscled thighs and a curvy waist, currently hidden by the leather jacket, and the look was completed by a set of black boots.
She walked for a while, thinking of what to do, knowing she couldn’t maintain the way she was going. It wasn’t sustainable, and the truth was, Aubree’s loneliness was starting to affect her in ways that weakened her. Perhaps then, it might have been fate, when around the three hour mark of her walk, as she walked along the cooling Florida beach, that something prompted her to walk left instead of right into the water. Imagine her surprise when she found a condo building, that she wasn’t entirely sure was gonna stay up longer than a year, and yet she still found herself smiling at it.
Maybe,….there could be something here after all, she thought as she walked in to find an office or maybe a manager to talk too.
