Sadie's office was dimly lit from the moonlit sky that cast through her window wall. She specifically had the floor-to-ceiling window placed in her office, as to give her the view she loved most,The open ocean. She hadn't even realized she stood up, let alone was just staring at the calm waves crashing against the shoreline. She had still been in deep thought about the events that occurred that evening when a voice broke her from a trance. She was about to say something snarky towards the man that entered her office, but she didn't know if he had even tried knocking first. She wasn't about to look like a fool if he had, so she bit her tongue. She took a deep breath to calm her nerves, and that was when she caught his scent again.

"Bold of you to enter my office after all of that." She spoke, still looking out at the ocean with her back towards him. She cocked her head to the side and continued, "You did piss me off, but I think your goal was to piss off Jasper more. Probably, sizing him up or whatever it was you were doing." She turned on her heel to face him directly as she took a step towards the light switch near her desk, flipping it on. Her eyes met his briefly but soon trailed over him, taking in his stature, facial features, and finally, looking back into his dark eyes directly. As she did, the same sensation at the bar occurred again, but this time, her heart started to tighten in her chest and beat a little faster. She was sure if he looked closely at her, her eyes would have a purple hue in them, almost illuminating. Something that she usually could control, but for some reason, the guy kept bringing it out of her.

She wanted to gain composure again, so she took a deep breath and closed her eyes. Once she was done, she spoke again. "As much as I want to kick you in your family jewels for what you did out there. I think you should introduce yourself first, don't you think?" She smirked at the thought of kicking him, but as tempting as it may be, it wouldn't clarify anything. "Then after that, we can get to the 'why you came from England' and 'how you knew of me'. If that's okay with you, Mr. Pompous-Ass?" She looked straight at him with mischievous smile on her face as she waited to see what he had to say.
Fitzpatrick stood with his back to the closed and locked door facing into the room. The dim light the illuminated her office was lovely and he would have commented on it, but she had something to say to him first. He listened calmly, already anticipating what he might hear and having a counter argument ready. His intention was not to piss anyone off, which he would explain to her soon enough. He listened, but as he listened, his eyes trailed down her body that was softly brightened by the rays of the moon. She was a vision as a dimly lit silhouette with the swelling waves behind her. He felt his stomach tighten as he watched her.

The vision was broken as she turned to face him and turned on a light. The glow of the moon was so much more romantic than the harsh light of an electric bulb. But it did shine a bright enough light on the situation, if only she would listen. Their eyes met, affecting them both in similar ways. He could hear her heart starting to race as his beat in time with hers. When her eyes sparkled with purple, as did his with gold. Again, she broke the gaze and the silence. His eyes had just started to trail down her body again when the threat of kicking him in his balls came out of her mouth. His eyes shifted back to her face and his expression changed slightly. Like he had gone from admiring her to studying her. He waited for her to say her piece and then it was his turn. “Do you always handle uncomfortable situations with threats, or perhaps, acts of violence?” He lifted the strap of his bag from over his head and set it on the ground by her desk. He didn’t move forward yet, but he would in time.

“I called out an uncomfortable scene. That was intended.” His dark eyes weren’t cruel but there were stern. “People in toxic relationships are usually too close to the situation to see the forest for the trees. You say he was having a bad night. But I have been watching and every night seems like a bad night.” He stepped a little closer to her desk. “I am not saying any of this to hurt you, but to make you think.” He nonchalantly placed the fingertips of one of his hands on her desk. “When people get out of bad relationships, the first thing they ask is ‘why did no one ever tell me?’ I told you. I’m a stranger and I can see what you clearly cannot.” The volume of his voice rose slightly as he said, “Love blinds you. It intoxicates you and makes you turn away from obvious problems. But, over time, the ignored issues become poisons.”

He said his piece and it was time for him to fulfill a request she made of him. He lifted his fingertips off her desk and clicked the light off. “If you don’t mind, I prefer the moon light for this next part.” Moving slowly, he came around her desk and offered her his hand. If she accepted, she would notice they were the same temperature. They would also have the same texture to the palms of their hands. “I am the crowned Duke of Kent, my lady.” Still holding her hand, if she allowed, he bowed regally to her. “My name is Fitzpatrick Allhallows. And I came all the way from England because I am ready to get married.” He took a step closer to her, hoping she didn’t kick him in the balls. “I knew of you because I wished for you. I didn’t know where you were but about two hundred years ago, I felt something. A pull. A need to cross an ocean. I fought the urge until I could not fight it anymore. So, I followed it. Blindly, I followed the pull, and it brought me here. It brought me to you.”
She had been staring directly at him and was waiting to hear what he had to say. When he first spoke and asked if Sadie handled uncomfortable situations with threats and violence, she snorted a mocking laugh while looking away briefly and then back at him. Though she didn't say it out loud, she did think to herself that maybe she should implement her previous threat of a swift kick to his balls. But she held her tongue, calmed down, and kept her feet to herself as she let him continue.

Sadie soon heard every word verbatim when he spoke about 'toxic relationships' to them becoming poisonous. She didn't like what she heard, but deep down, she knew he was right, which sparked the thought. Something has to change. In her mind, this man was a stranger and didn't know the situation or the history at all. She did however understand that this was from a different perspective, his to be exact. She turned her face away from him, trying not to show the inner turmoil she was struggling with, and looked out the window again. "You don't fully understand the situation. Which no one would believe it to begin with, but I will admit I do understand from your perspective." She didn't look back at him as she said this, though she did hear him move towards her. She was struggling with the thoughts of what has always been and wanting everyone to find their own happiness. Even if it meant letting the ones she loved dearly go, freeing them from a bond that was never natural.

She was soon pulled from her thoughts when the light was turned off, and he spoke again. She turned to see that he was moving around her desk to stand in front of her. With the bright moonlight and keen eye sight, Sadie saw that he offered her his hand and deliberated if she should take it. Though when her heart tightened again, the decision was made and in a natural reaction she slipped her hand into his. She noticed the same temperature and texture of their palms, but that wasn't what caught her attention. It was the fact that it felt like the last piece of the puzzle was put in place, the perfect fit. Sadie's heart started to race again, and she almost withdrew her hand, but he started introducing himself. "Fitzpatrick." She mumbled to herself, testing the name and felt that it just rolled off the tongue.

She kept her hand in his and listened to everything he had to say, even explaining why he came from England. Her eyes that had been very cautious and annoyed with this man started to soften. She could tell he was being honest with her, and his description of the pull she had for him was the same for him. When he finished speaking, she looked down at their hands and took in everything he said before she spoke again. "Sadie. Sadie Reign. Though you probably already know that." She looked back into his dark eyes and introduced herself, even though he probably already knew her name. "As for marriage, that might be skipping a few steps, wouldn't you think?" She half joked and was serious about that part because she had just met the man. Then she registered something else he had said that piqued her curiosity even more. "Did you say you felt something about two hundred years ago?" She asked and pondered what that could have been. The only thing she could think of was when the dragon inside her awakened or maybe when she was born.

Without realizing it, she had stepped closer to Fitzpatrick and interlocked her fingers with his. She only noticed as she glanced down at their hands and internally debated if she should gently remove her hand. She looked back up and directly into Fitzpatrick's eyes, looking for guidance if he wanted her to let go and put some space between them. "What is this pull? Why do I feel drawn to you?" She couldn't help but ask, though deep down she knew what it was. She didn't ask in a disgusted way, but that of curiosity. She desperately wanted to understand what was going on, and if he could explain it, she would keep an open mind.
Certainly, he knew her name. He had learned it from listening, but he needn’t share that information with her. In fact, it was all the more special because she had given it to him so willingly, he hadn’t even had to ask her for it. The statement about marriage he knew was forward, but it was meant to be. He needed her to listen and to take him seriously. Though, as she said she wasn’t ready for marriage just yet he smiled. It was a genuine smile. A smile that brightened his dark eyes and made the gold glitter in them. “I agree getting married tomorrow would be missing more than a few steps. And I haven’t proposed marriage, only that I came here to get married.” His thumb passed over the back of her hand gently, not ready to let it go. “In leu of an engagement ring, perhaps you will accept that walk on the beach? That, I don’t believe, would be as intrusive.”

She had questions. Naturally, she had questions. If she didn’t have questions, he would have been worried. And… “Yes, it was about two hundred years ago, give or take a decade. I was flying over my lands, doing my guard duty, when my heart felt like it was going to explode with adrenaline. I fell from the sky and landed in a bog.” He chuckled softly to himself as he remembered. “It was the first time I had ever fallen while flying. It was a terrible experience. One my siblings mocked me for, for years.” His fingers tightened around hers as he confessed, “That was when I first felt it; the pull.”

And then came her smartest questions thus far. What is the pull? He wanted to be honest without being too direct. Maybe she understood about bonds, but maybe she didn’t. He decided the best thing to say was to make a general statement and let her connect the dots. “It meant my mate was in the world. The dragon destined for me was flying…somewhere.” He had stepped towards her, and then she towards him. Now, he closed the distance and stood as close as he could to Sadie without pressing himself to her. “It was my duty to search until I found her; my one. I am sad to say, I fought the call. I wasn’t ready. I was childish about the matter.”

He wet his lips with his tongue as he admitted the truths he was only now ready to confront. “Can you forgive my hesitation?”
When Sadie saw Fitzpatrick smile genuinely, she couldn't help but smile back. One that reached her eyes and softened even more towards him. She listened to the seriousness when he talked about marriage, but could tell he knew she wasn't quite ready for that. And to her surprise, she felt a little disappointed with herself as her heart dropped. What the hell?! You just met this guy. She chastised herself and looked down as his thumb ran over the back of her hand. She instantly calmed with a simple touch and grew more curious. She soon heard him ask about the walk on the beach, which made her look back up at him. "I don't think that is intrusive at all compared to you sneaking into my office and locking the door behind you." She raised an eyebrow in a challenging way with a playful smirk on her face. She was hinting that she would be up for that walk and hoped he understood that.

When he started explaining that when he first felt the pull, she listened intently and unintentionally used her thumb to caress the back of his hand. She started grinning, and a chuckle escaped at the part where he fell into a bog and was mocked. "I mean, it couldn't have been as bad as when I found out what I was and freaked out. Taking out a ship almost. Let's just say that was quite an eye-opener for everyone involved." She amusedly said as she thought about that experience and continued to look at him. "I am glad you were fine, though. I bet that hurt like hell." She said as she instinctively gave a gentle squeeze to his hand.

It was silent for a few moments before Fitzpatrick spoke again. He spoke about the pull and what it meant, letting every word sink in. As soon as she realized what this meant, she let out a gasp and used her free hand to cover her mouth as her eyes widened in surprise. "We are mates. True mates." She said it in a whisper out loud, only confirming it with herself because he had already known. Unsure how she felt about this, Sadie continued to listen to him, but not before she noticed how close they were to each. When he asked if she could forgive him for fighting the call and being hesitant, she responded. "There is nothing to forgive. You weren't ready, and I can tell you that without a doubt. I sure as hell wasn't. I had thought I was a monster at the time my dragon awakened."

She squeezed his hand gently again as she looked towards the window out at the ocean. "I hope you can forgive me when the time comes as my past and present come to light." She couldn't look at him when she said this to Fitzpatrick because currently, who was on her mind were Red and Jasper, whom she did have a bond to. Though it wasn't a natural bond like Fitzpatrick's and her, over the years, it did grow stronger, and one had become poisoned by it. She took a deep breath, calming herself, and looked back towards him. "Maybe we can take that walk, and if you have questions, we can talk? I will answer honestly and as much to my ability." She smiled softly at him with hope in her eyes, letting him choose. If he had chosen to take the walk, she would make sure the employees were gone and the bar was locked up tight before they left for the night. Either way, the bar would be closed for the evening and she would take that stroll on her own, like she always did, if he chose to call it a night.
His gentleness was evident as he held her hands and looked into her eyes. He listened to her words as she spoke and studied her lips. He watched as she realized exactly what he was trying to convey to her – the mate bond. She seemed to be surprised by the news but not unhappy. But there was something in her words. She thought she would need forgiveness when she explained her past to him. He bit his lower lip, curiosity burning in his mind at what she might need to tell him. He knew she was seeing Red and Jasper. He wondered if there would be more than them for her to tell him about. He was tempted to ask, but it seemed like she wasn’t quite ready to share that tale with him. He studied her closely, wishing he could read her mind at that moment. Now it seemed she was trying to get rid of him for a little while.

With his free hand, he lifted it to her cheek and stroked her fair skin lightly with his fingers. “I will meet you at the beach at 3am. That should give you time to close the bar down.” He ran his fingers down to her lips and brushed them lightly. It was clear Fitzpatrick wanted to kiss her. His stomach knotted and his heart raced. He leaned in and breathed in her lips. He touched his lower lip with his tongue as he pulled back from her. “You are tempting me in ways that I can’t explain.” He lowered his hand from her face and placed it over the hand of hers he was holding. “I should go for now. 3am?” He lifted Sadie’s hand with both of his and placed a kiss on each of her fingers before he bowed a little and pressed his forehead to her hand. He then straightened up and left her hand go. “I will count the minutes until we are together again.”
Sadie knew she needed a moment to herself, as she inquired about walking on the beach later. She needed to think about everything that was revealed, especially about having a mate. She didn't think she would have a true mate, but nonetheless, there he was. The evening was already getting late, so she wouldn't be far off from closing the bar for the evening. She looked at Fitzpatrick as he asked her about meeting him on the beach at three in the morning, which she nodded in agreement. "Yes, I will meet you there. It's a date." She blushed at the last part, not meaning to say date. "I mean not that it's a date or anything. Just an agreement to meet you." She spoke nervously, trying to backtrack, but she soon saw his free hand raise towards her face. As his fingers trailed her face, she had unconsciously leaned in to his touch, though it made her heart race, the touch seemed to calm her.

She soon felt his fingers trail her lips and felt him lean in. He looked like he wanted to kiss, which made her breath hitch. She wasn't sure if she was ready for him to kiss her, no matter how much the need for it was running through her body. She didn't have time to think about it because soon he pulled back. She chuckled at what he said to her about tempting him. "I could say the same for you." She smiled at him as she said this. Showing he affected her the same as she did him. He asked her one last time about meeting her at three, and she nodded again. "Three. I will be there." She spoke softly and smiled at him. He soon let go of her hand, but not until after kissing each finger and pressing his forehead to her hand. The action made Sadie melt even more and once again made her chest tighten. She smiled at him as he left, though he didn't say goodbye, she knew from his last words meant they would see each soon.

She still needed to figure out what to say to him, and she still needed to tell Red and Jasper what had happened, hoping they would understand. Because she still didn't fully understand it herself and they were both very important to her. She was terrified of losing them because of her finding a mate, but she knew this wasn't something she could just shrug off or even fight. Before she left her office, she took a deep breath, and she refocused her mind before heading back up front. The Black Anchor was still open after all, and she would help up there until the evening. She walked through her office door and was just about to close it when she noticed a satchel by her desk. I guess that's his, and he forgot it. She thought to herself and would be sure to remember to take it to him when she sees him later. She closed the door behind her and walked back up front to finish out the night.
