Following the storm, the Flick Your Bean Coffee Co. closed for renovations due to the devastation of Hurricane Ian. But today, it was finally opening again. Although some parts of the coffee shop were still being renovated or at least finalizing on it, the kitchen and coffeemakers were functional. Barista, Baker and Expectant Mother Marissa Tamura was going to be one of the opening baristas and her expertise in baking was going to be a huge help in getting the store ready and opening for the first time since its closure after the storm had hit. Unlocking the backdoor, Marissa waddled into the kitchen and turned on the light. As she tied her hair into a ponytail and put an apron on, she proceeded to clock in, turn on the computers and proceeded to prep some pastries for the oven while letting it pre-heat. To her dismay, only one of the ovens was working. The other was still in the process of being replaced and should be back up and running by the end of the week.
The last hour felt gruelling, as all this prep work while being super pregnant was no easy task. Thirty-five weeks...Either she's popping next week or within the next five to six weeks. She sighed before straightening out her apron. After putting the pastries in the oven, it was time to open.
She turned on the opening sign and unlocked the front door. While waiting for the first batch of customers, Marissa proceeded to restock on some needed items, like napkins, cup sleeves, straws, spoons and forks.

Asher was not normally one who wanted something sweet. Most of the time, Asher ate like a bird. Small portions, and usually getting through a day by snacking on crackers or coffee. But on occasion, every couple of years, the witch got a craving for something outside her norm. Plus she had been feeling a little down lately, and needed a pick me up. Getting drunk hadn’t worked, and sex was something so personal to Asher that she rarely did it. Magic was a great release, but even then, it left something to be desired.
So, in the middle of her morning, Asher decided sugar was the answer. She knew the most likely result was she was gonna be sick afterwards, but that wasn’t a care she currently had. She left her office, and walked straight past Red on her way out. He had looked at her with curiosity, but he knew better than to question. He merely asked for coffee on her way back.
Walking into Flick Your Bean, a name that made some part of her brain giggle, she was overwhelmed and delighted at the scents happening around the air. It smelt delicious, and she couldn’t wait to see selections. Tucking a piece of black hair behind her ear, she stepped towards the counter, brown eyes looking down at the pretty glass displays. After a moment, Asher looked up to see if she could see if anyone was behind the counter, waiting to be helped.

After finishing the restocking of the utensils, Marissa proceeded to waddle into the kitchen to check on the pastry goods that were in the oven. The smell was good, but a tad bit overwhelming due to her heightened sense of smell. Just as she got to the oven, the timer went off. Quickly, she turned it off and got some oven mitts to use to get the pastries out. Just as she grabbed it though, the front door's bell proceeded to go off, signalling to her that someone has entered the cafe. Since the pastries needed to cool down anyway, she set it on the prep table before taking the oven mitts off and then waddling back to the front, where a brunette woman was standing at the counter. Smiling, she proceeded to waddle up to the counter and greeted the woman. "Good morning, ma'am. What can I get for you today?" She asked a smile on her face as she pressed the screen on the tablet, ready to record the order.
During the awkward pause, Marissa straightened out her apron again along with her dress and then made eye contact.

Asher was looking through the selection of cookies when a heavily pregnant woman made her way to the front. Asher was a little surprised at first, wondering if she should still be working, but moved past it quickly enough as it was none of her business. “Good morning. Having a good one, I hope?” Asher greeted back, and smiled softly as the woman asked what she wanted. “Two of the chocolate chip cookies, and two large coffees, one with with just a bit of milk, and the other with one cream and two sugars, please.”
The combination of the cookie and coffee might serve to pick up Asher’s mood a bit, or at least she hoped. She reached into her purse and grabbed her wallet, pulling out Red’s card. She still had it from the other night, and had zero qualms in using it, especially since one of the coffees was for him. She waited quietly then for her order as she started thinking about the rest of the afternoon, and the work she had left to do that day.

"I am. Just happy that we're open again. What can I get started for you today?" Marissa replied, placing her hand on her back as she got ready to enter the lady's order.
On the tablet, she entered it as the woman spoke. “Two of the chocolate chip cookies, and two large coffees, one with with just a bit of milk, and the other with one cream and two sugars, please.” So it started with the two Chocolate Chip Cookies. Two Large Coffees? Either she's grabbing one for someone else or one just wasn't potent enough. But...who was she to judge? However, one had milk and the other with cream and two sugars. Okay, it was definitely for another person. Were they meeting her here? Or was she taking it to-go because that person is elsewhere? No, she shouldn't pry. "One with Milk...the other with one cream and two sugars..." She repeated. "Alright, lovely, I can get the two coffees started for you. And it's your lucky day, those Cookies are fresh out of the oven. They finished baking as soon as you walked in." She smiled.
She finalized the order and a notification popped up on the pinpad. "That'll be 11.52 after tax." She said smiling before turning the tablet over, which set out a few options for tipping between 15%, 18%, 20%, 'Custom' and 'No Tip'.
Briefly, Marissa went to the back kitchen and proceeded to grab a pair of tongs and nutrile gloves to get the two cookies, but put them in separate bags so that they wouldn't stick together. Upon returning to the counter, she happily handed them to the woman. "Here are the cookies. I put them in separate bags so that they won't stick together since they're still fresh from the oven."
Immediately after, she got to work on the two cups of coffee. As she began the brewing process though, her stomach growled, prompting her to sigh. Probably should get my own breakfast after I finish making these coffees, she thought.

Asher waited patiently for the woman to get her order together, and stood to the side checking e-mails on her phone as she did. She had a few things to take care of, including checking on the chief, and making sure he wasn’t going completely off the rails. He seemed okay today so far, but you just never knew with that guy. Asher looked up again as the woman told her the cookies were fresh out of the oven. “Nothing better than a fresh cookie.”
Asher stepped up to the counter when she said the price. She added a healthy tip, because why not, and tapped Red’s card against the machine. The little beep signified that all was paid for, and Asher stepped back to wait. It wasn’t long before the order was ready, and Asher picked it up, taking the coffees from her when they were ready. “Oh, that’s great, thank you. I look forward to them.” She said about the cookies, before she stepped backwards towards the door.
“Thank you so much. Have a great day.” She called out happily as she then proceeded to leave, and walk back to the precinct to give the brooding one his coffee. But definitely not his card.

Because her belly kept a reasonable distance between her and the counter, Marissa did have to take a bit longer in making the two large coffees considering that they were a tad bit different from one another. She started with the coffee with the bit of milk since it was the simpler one. Once it was finished brewing, she poured it into the cup and placed the cap on it before putting a stopper in. And a sleeve. Swiftly, she moved onto the next one, which had one cream and two sugars. So after pouring the coffee into the next cup, and grabbed the packet of cream and followed up with two packs of sugar before closing it off.
To differentiate them, Marissa proceeded to take a sharpie and wrote 'Cream + 2 Sugars' in relatively large letters before placing them both into one of those paper cup holders and then set it on the counter for the lady. "There you go, that should be the last of them." She said it with a smile.
And just like that, the first order of the day was finished and was straight out the door. She smiled as the woman waved goodbye. "Have a wonderful day!"
As the bell rang and the door clicked shut, it was back to work. Now that the store was vacant again, Marissa proceeded to go back and check on the cookies to make sure they were cooled down enough. And surely enough, they were! So she loaded them up onto a smaller tray to take them up front and started stocking them, while awaiting the next customer.
