    The Early Years
    Sophia's Parents:

Shannon Quentin - Born in San Francisco to 1st generation Korean immigrants who built a successful clothing business, Shannon grew up with an eye for style. He worked at the family textile factory, but was a bit wayward as a teenager. Despite being slack, he managed to graduate high school in the top quarter of his class. He was offered a scholarship in fashion design at USC, but he turned it down in favor of enlisting in the U.S. Army. He spent two years of his six year enlistment in Germany before being transferred to South Korea. It was there he met Kim Seo-yun while on a 72 hour pass, and they immediately connected with the discovery that they shared a common interest in fashion design. She was what he needed to get his head out of his ass and recognize his calling.
    A note on Sophia's grandparents
When they came to the United States after the Korean War, it was sommin to adopt western names that sounded like their Korean names. His name being Saeyoung, he adopted Shannon as his given name. It was unclear why he chose Quentin as a surname since it was usually a given name

Kim Seo-yun - Born in Seoul, she went to work in a textile factory as a teenager, and she would take home scraps of material to experiment and work her own patchwork clothing designs. It was random that she met Shannon one evening, and though she had to make it clear to him that she 'wasn't that kind of girl', they still had dinner and drinks. It wasn't long before they fell in love.

When Kim Seo-yun learned she was pregnant, she and Shannon married, and as Shannon's enlistment was coming closer to an end, Sophia Ann Quentin was born. Shannon didn't get to spend a lot of time with his new family though, as he deployed back to the United States just before his enlistment ended. It would be over a year before his wife and daughter would be able to emigrate to the USA. Getting the immigration paperwork sorted out for them was a nightmare, but once they were accepted, He met them at the San Francisco airport.

Shannon had a house ready for them, and he worked at the family business and would soon take the reins of the company from his ailing father. As if a dream came true, Kim Seo-yun started working at the business as a dress designer, and with Shannon's business sense; her design sense, and the family connections in South Korea and the business there, the company reached new heights of profitability. Young Sophia did not want for anything as she grew up, and despite being an only child, she was quite social and outgoing and played well with others. She was her parents darling and would someday inherit the family business.

    Sophia becomes a Teenager

On Sophia's thirteenth birthday, Sophia was treated with a day without study. It was such a rare thing for her parents to relent on their pressure. She couldn't leave the house though, and she couldn't have anyone over. Of course it didn't stop her from sneaking out of her room that night. She had gotten good at it. Dee, a friend from school, was quite the sneaky girl, and she would come over sometimes at night and Sophia would help her sneak in to her house so they could play video games. Sophia soon learned to be just as sneaky as her friend.

Junior high school was a new experience. Multiple classes, and she had a couple male teachers! All her elementary teachers were women, a couple younger, most older, so having the handsome Mr Jade for two of her six classes ... math first period and and science sixth period was clearly a new and wonderful distraction for her. He was her first real crush.
