Races
In Avalon pretty much any race of being you can think up can be considered a playable one. But to make things easier for those who want to make a brand new character but don't want to go through the hassle of thinking up a race, here is a list of the more commonly played ones.
- Anthros- These beings are a strange mixture of animals and other beings. The most common being human. The race that the animal parts are mixed with is usually more prominent with the animal side just being various characteristics on the being such as a tail, ears, the animals legs and so forth.
- Celestials- These heavenly bodies are often times called Angels. They span in height from being equivalent in height to humans to being several feet taller. Most celestials are known for being holy and divine beings but on rare occasions more malevolent ones often called Fallen Angels can be seen as well.
- Demons- These beings of the underworld come in all shapes and sizes so a basic physical characteristic list can't typically be given. All demons usually hail from some sort of underworld that would be the equivalent of any other cultures rendition of hell. Though there are rare occurrences where demons tend to live among other races thus allowing their children to hail from there rather than the underworld.
- Dracons- These beings are believed to be some form of descendent of dragons due to the fact that they typically resemble humans with dragon characteristics such as scale covered skin, wings, breath weapons and so forth. Not all Dracons have obvious dragon like traits however thus making them look exactly like humans and at times, often mistaken for them. Dracon society tends to segregate themselves based on what form of magic they seem to be birthed with which thus leads to families often being broken apart as genetics doesn't seem to play a factor in this. They also tend to be considerably taller than normal humans.
Dracon Sub Races
Earth- This Dracons are strong willed and firm in their believes. With an innate ability for earth based magics, these Dracons reside primarily in the western portion of the Dracon kingdom.
Fire- Fiercly loyal and often times ill tempered, these guys were the once believed to be the primary cause of the Dracon-Kage wars as rumors had spread that it was a Fire element Dracon who was attacking random targets within the kage's kingdom. They tend to reside in the southern portion of the kingdom.
Wind- Wise and willful, these Dracons are looked at moreso as philosophers of sort as they are the ones the presiding Dracon Royal Families tend to turn to as it pertains to prophecies and legends spoken within the walls of the Dracon kingdom. Due to their relationship with the Dracon Royal Family, they tend to live near the Dracon castle itself so they are within quick reach should the royal family need them.
Water- Free spirited and free flowing, these Dracons are mindful of their surroundings and tend to stay somewhat secluded from the rest of the Dracon kingdom though they are still near if the kingdom ever needs them. They reside in a small village on the coast a bit south of the Dracon Kingdom.
Lightning- Brash and reckless, the Lightning Dracons have tendency to act off of instinct rather than think about their actions. They are great warriors however and are typically found serving as a royal guard of sorts for the royal family. As a result, they tend to live in the area surrounding the castle among the wind Dracons for the purposes of a quick response.
Ice- These guys are as cold as the ice magic they wield. They are usually placed as executioners due to their cold hearted nature and typically reside in the northern part of the kingdom near the mountains where they believe the Dragon God Bahamut resides.
Shadow- Found in the eastern portion of the kingdom, these Dracons are typically silent and when they do speak it's usually to belittle someone or to get a point across. Due to this, they are believed to be arrogant though it's actually quite the opposite. Their actually quite humble.
And before anyone says anything, I want to make it known that the concept of Dracons are something myself and my step brother came up with a few years back. And in such I would appreciate it if noone says they are some kind of rip offs of those dragonborn or whatever they are called in Skyrim. Never even played the game. The concept of them and their creation resides primarily with him.
- Dwarves- The men short in stature but big in heart are known for their fierce loyalty and their excellent smithery based work being able to craft excellent weapons and armor of the finest metals around. They have a tendency to live in cities carved on the outside and inside of mountains.
- Elementals- These beings come in all shapes and sizes some, like Kages with flesh and blood forms, others with intangible bodies and so forth. They have a powerful display of ability with the element they represent.
- Elves- These beings are known to be similar to humans in appearance. They just tend to be slightly taller, have pointy ears and are often referred to as 'beautiful'. They tend to be extremely regal and formal in dress and action. Even combat gear worn by elves tends to be something looked upon as typically worn by combat involved nobility. They also tend to live quite a bit longer than humans being capable of living for several hundred years.
- Fae- These mystical beings are human sized but have mystical powers. Their word is their truth. Though not capable of lying they will engage in creative truth telling in order to throw others off the trail of something they want. They can grant you your fondest wish but in the end most regret the choice to accept this.
- Goblins- They are attributed with various (sometimes conflicting) abilities, temperaments and appearances. In some cases, goblins have been classified as constantly annoying little creatures somewhat related to the brownie and gnome. They are usually depicted as small, sometimes only a few inches tall, sometimes the size of a dwarf. They also often are said to possess various magical abilities.
- Humans- Perhaps the most plentiful race within the world of Avalon, these beings have no true defining features and stand at average heights. They can be found perusing a variety of professions and skills. They are also among the most versatile beings in existence.
- Kage- The Kage race are beings that look exactly like humans. Physically at first glance they are impossible to tell apart from a human. However there are anything but humans. They are actually a flesh and blood incarnation of elementals. They are extremely gifted with the ability to use one of the physical elements and can even potentially display the element they are associated with in mere moments after being born. Kages have also been proven to house two souls. This second soul is the one that is the source of their elements and also gives them the ability to transform into blood thirsty beasts. The transformation can occur either during times of extreme emotional stress, after using too much of their own energy to draw upon their element from this second soul, or by willfully letting the second soul take control.
Kage Sub Races
Tsuchi- Tsuchikage (Earth Shadow), are Kage who's element of birth is Earth. Just as the very ground they stand on is, they are firm and strong in their beliefs and in their body.
Kaji- Kajikage (Fire Shadow) element of birth is fire. They tend to be brash and quick to act off of instinct and can be found to be very protective of those they care for.
Kaze- Kazekage (Wind Shadow) are considered arguably the most versatile of all the Kage subraces due to the versatility of their element of wind. They have a tendency to be more chill and laid back than most other of the Kage subraces.
Mizu- Mizukage (Water shadow) have the element of water at their disposal and are also the picture of beauty and elegance among the Kage having a liking of dance and music.
Hyo- Hyokage (Ice Shadow) are usually cold hearted and at times ruthless in terms of Kage standards. With the element of Ice on their side, they won't hesitate to stop their enemies with a icy blast.
Rai- Raikage (Lightning Shadow), like Kajikage are quick to act in times of need. Some actually consider Kajikage a evolutionary shift from Raikage due to the intense heat levels of lightning that are easily capable of producing fire.
- Lycan- Often confused for Weres, it is true that these beings are similar to Weres as they start out appearing human but can transform into a more feral beast. Unlike Weres however, they can transform at will arguably making them stronger. However they are weaker than Weres in their transformed state unless they transform under a full moon.
- Orc- A race of mythical human-like creatures, generally described as fierce and combative, with grotesque features and often black, grey or greenish skin. They are always high in numbers. They often ride boars, wolves and wargs. If an Orc chooses to learn magic it's usually shamanistic based but more often than not they prefer physical combat training themselves to achieve the highest levels of physical brute force they can.
- Shapeshifters- These beings are known for having a base appearance of humans but posses the magical ability to shift their form at will. Some only change into a single thing while others can change to numerous things. Though it's the most common, not all shape shifters are a human base and some form of magical abilities actually result in some beings being confused for shape shifters.
- Vampire- These beings of the night are often depicted as having pale skin and dressing like some form of aristocrat. They typically appear as human looking but most any creature can be converted to being a vampire. In place of magic, they have abilities called disciplines that are the source of their powers many know vampires to have such as enhanced speed and strength. If a being knew magic before becoming a vampire, they lose their magical abilities when the change. The reason behind this is unknown.
- Weres- Akin to Lycans, Weres and Lycans are often mistaken for one another. Weres have the ability to change to a feral beast but can only do so under the light of a full moon where as Lycans have evolved and gained the ability to transform at will.
As stated these are just some more commonly played races in the world of Avalon and most any beings can be portrayed. If you feel another race should be added to this particular list, feel free to speak up about it. -
