OOC Rules
New Versailles Rules
If you are roleplaying in the group it will be assumed that you have read the rules and are familiar with them.
Rules updated as of 2/22/20
1. Age requirements (IC and OOC) – Our group is meant for adults and carries with it heavy themes of violence, language, and sexuality. All characters ICly must be (in actuality and appearance) 18 years of age or older. If you are found RPing a character that appears to be younger than eighteen, looks grossly younger than the minimum age, or acts in an infantilized manner despite being "over 18," you may be asked to adjust your character accordingly to avoid disciplinary action. This is both a group rule and one enforced by the RP Repository.
2. Character Creation
- We do not have a character application system in place, as we have a fairly laid back approach to character generation. We prefer for supernatural characters to be based on real world mythology.
- Any characters participating in the continuity who have traits that should be hidden from the human population should use potions, shapeshifting or illusions to mask them. Glamour, for example, is a magical enchantment/illusion that is used by the Fae to hide abnormal and inhuman traits and details from non magical folk.
The exception to this rule is the town of Rochet, where supernaturals are permitted to be open about what they are. Mundanes who leave Rochet forget what they've seen -- it falls to the wayside like an odd dream just out of their grasp.
New/Original Species
- Original species are defined as a character race not established by existing mythology. They are subject to the same continuity expectations as other species. They must be able to hide what they are and must fit the setting.
- While we acknowledge and respect that each person has full right moderate and maintain their original creations, you must keep in mind the continuity. Therefore, it is incumbent upon you to regulate the species in accordance with the rules.
Faction Leaders and Officials- While many people have characters that fall into the factions of NV, high ranked individuals must be approved by management. Some examples of characters that might fall into this category include fae nobility of the High Courts, Chief of Police, City Council, etc.
The following are not allowed to be played publicly in New Versailles, however examples of acceptable use are noted below.
- Canon characters of any kind
(This includes fairytales, TV shows, and other published works. Characters with personalities and backstories inspired by canon works are ok.) - Furry and anthro characters
(Werewolves and other magical characters with alternate forms are okay.) - Feral characters
(Sentient mythological creatures that are capable of verbal or telepathic conversation are permitted but they MUST be over 18 years of age and act like an adult.) - Gods and Deities of any kind
(Immortal characters are allowed, but they should not be omnipotent. Demi-gods and children of immortals are ok provided they have weaknesses to balance their strengths.) - Advanced Technology
(This means that you can't pilot a mech suit, but prosthetic limbs can be quite advanced with current technology.) - Extinct species
(Recently extinct (within the last century) is ok, but please no dinosaurs!)
3. Continuity, setting and back story - NV is a modern day city with a tech level equivalent to what is available in our real world. It is located geographically on the Mississippi river in the LaFourche parish, Louisiana, USA. The fairly large city has somewhat of a New Orleans feel to it and was similarly affected by Hurricane Katrina. Real world influences from the weather, environment, and politics can impact NV and can come into play. The neighboring suburb of La Croix is a historic district of the area, and on the opposite end of the city is a stretch of farmland and bayou that leads to the rural outpost of Hatchet.
Other groups and settings do not exist (for example, Furcadia's Dragonlands).
4. God-moding and abuse of power – God-moding is not allowed anywhere within NV, and we encourage everyone to remember that there is always someone more powerful than your character! Even for those supernatural types who run certain parts of the city, there are checks and balances in place that ensure one person can’t sweep through the city and destroy everything unless we implement that in our continuity.
5. OOC Room expectations – Our OOC room/Discord server is often populated with many members both old and new, so we ask everyone to be respectful when participating in OOC room conversation.
We all know we get a little stupid and wild in OOC, but there's a fine line between funny and playful and simple ignorance. We do not tolerate negative obnoxiousness to the point that it becomes toxic and makes our other members uncomfortable.
- Be respectful. Obey Wheaton's Law ("Don't be a dick").
- NO racial or sexist slurs, degrading insults towards individuals or groups or other forms of harassment are permitted.
- NO obnoxious behavior that degrades into purely childish, spiteful chatter.
(This includes; Not allowing other people to talk in the OOC room because you keep repeating everything they say, or turning everything someone says into a sexual slur or joke. Sometimes it’s funny, most times it’s not.)
- NO spamming - The OOC room is a safe and relaxing environment intended for our community and potential members to use as an enjoyable and peaceful place to talk among each other.
- Do not advertise or promote other dreams or RP groups in our group (chats, forums, OOC room, etc.) without permission from the Founder.
- All NSFW content must be kept to the NSFW channels. You can hide link previews by typing < and > around the URL, and you can mark images as "spoilers" to blur them out. Posting adult content freely in the NSFW channels is permitted, as these are opt-in.
(We're all adults, but we still have to use discretion at the computer in case someone else is looking over our shoulder!)
6. We have a strict no-bully policy - We’re all adults here, and we should treat each other how we’d want to be treated. Do not harass other players within our dream, and do not harass staff. If you are not sure what constitutes harassment, please refer to the following definition...- To trouble, torment, or confuse by continual persistent or subtle attacks. Disturbing, pestering, or troubling repeatedly, especially after being asked to stop.
If you find yourself being harassed...
- Please use the block feature. Someone who is blocked will not be able to PM you or respond to your threads. On Discord, when a blocked user posts in a public space, their message will display to you as being blocked content. They may not DM you privately.
- If the situation escalates, alert senior staff of the situation.
7. Consent – If you don’t want your character to participate in certain situations or scenes, it is up to you, the owner of the character, to break it off and remove yourself from the situation.
If you respond to anything in RP, please be aware that doing so equates to giving consent to participate. Please be courteous and remember that the best way to avoid uncomfortable situations is for both parties to PM each other and agree upon terms of RP.
8. Sexually explicit RP and Violent RP – We do not allow public sex RPs and you will be contacted by staff if you’re found to be doing so. Sexually explicit RP must be done in PMs.
In terms of violent RP, blood is spilled on a daily basis in NV. Violence based RP in general is acceptable, just remember to be aware of others RPing around you and be courteous.
Sexual assault and mentions of the word rape are strictly disallowed in any public space of NV, including the forums and Open RP.
9. AFKing – If you AFK during an Open RP longer than half an hour, you will be skipped in the posting order until you return. This is to ensure that the scene continues to move along at a reasonable pace.
- We do not have a character application system in place, as we have a fairly laid back approach to character generation. We prefer for supernatural characters to be based on real world mythology.
