Several years ago, NV coined the phrase "Open RP." It is a system that encourages and rewards players for interacting with other members of the community and participating in plots. These RPs can be anything from strangers sharing a cup of coffee to a major weather event wreaking havoc on the city. They can be random encounters, or they can be planned events. Participation in Open RP will earn you points, which are tickets to a monthly raffle.
Open RP’s focus on RPR is a work in progress, and we may adjust rules and raffle details as we go along.
How to participate:
- Submit a calendar event form if applicable.
The event host will earn 5 points for that RP instead of the usual 1 if successful. Only one host is permitted per event, and they must start the event RP thread.
- Start a thread on the Public RP forum. The title should be descriptive and should contain the limit on participants and be tagged "Open" (i.e. "Haymarket Open Mic (2-3 Spots Open)") so that players know when a roleplay is full. Use the "launch chat" button to RP in real time without needing to refresh the forums to see replies.
Optional: Post a one sentence minimum prompt describing your scene in the #open-rp-prompts channel on Discord. Be sure to link to your thread and tag @Open RP so that members with that role will be notified!
- Get at least one other player to participate. Everyone must post a minimum of three rounds for the RP to qualify for points. You must have a minimum of 2 spots open (yourself + two other players) in the roleplay, but you may have as many as you want.
- Stick to a posting order. Posts must be at least one paragraph long and may take no longer than 30 minutes. If you do not post in that time, you may be skipped for the round.
- When the slots are full, if slots are limited, mark the thread (Full) in the title so that people know. When the Open RP host leaves the session, even if they aren’t posting out of the RP, they must update the title to say (Closed) if they have not already and make a note of this at the end of their last post.
Once an Open RP has been marked Closed in the host’s last post, existing participants may continue to RP in the thread after that, but no further points will be counted.
- Please note that open RP is meant to be done in a timely manner. If you take longer than half an hour to post, you will be skipped until you return.
You should only be joining if you have the time to post three rounds in a single session. If slower paced RP is more your speed, try posting a seeking thread and advertising in the #seeking-rp channel on Discord.
- If a thread has had no responses for two hours, it will be marked closed by Senior Staff.
Hosts may extend this by bumping the thread no more than once per hour to indicate that it is still active.
With the rules behind us, let’s talk about that raffle. For each point you accrue, you will receive one numbered raffle ticket. The raffle itself is tiered. The guaranteed monthly tier contains prizes that will be raffled every month, regardless of how many points we as a group accrue. The additional tiers can be unlocked by the group total matching or exceeding the points required for each tier. So, if all of NV accrues 55 points in a given month, we'd unlock up to tier 3 for that time period. The total number of winners will always match the total number of prizes unlocked.
Winners will be chosen via digital dice roll, and prior to announcement, all winners will be individually contacted to inform them of their prize eligibility. If you play anonymous characters, and your name has been drawn twice, please discreetly inform Auberon of this. You don't have to say which other character is yours, just that your prize for a particular character can be redrawn. While we respect everyone’s right to anonymity, members may only win one prize per month. If you are found to be breaking this rule using anonymous alts, you will be banned from future raffles.
Winners have 24 hours to privately confirm their status before another name is drawn.
