New Versailles Locations and Territories
New Versailles is a modern city based in the heart of Louisiana following real time and real world continuity. Although this big city might appear to be simple and hold the normal social standards of any other city there is another world, a darker world holding an ominous influence within it. Hidden behind the city lights is another reality scratching just beneath the surface of normality, longing to see the light of the mundane world yet never quite able to reveal itself.
Downtown
Downtown is the central region to New Versailles and the focal point for city life. Although humans would be none the wiser to the lurking dangers of the underground city, it goes without saying that downtown is one of the more dangerous locations of the supernatural world. However there’s very strict enforcement by a contingent of vampires to prevent supernatural influence from crossing over into the mundane world. These particular vampires are led by Alexial and have pacts with various other factions to ensure neutrality of the district. No one person or group rules over downtown, and there’s a truce that is tenuous at best.
The Plaza Hotel
The hotel was originally built in the Civil War era on the land originally belonging to Major General Samson Haines. Alexial purchased the land from his widow following the war and built the original Plaza hotel on the property. Unfortunately, disastrous flooding as a result of Hurricane Katrina left the hotel beyond repair. It was demolished, and the current incarnation of the hotel sits in its place. Today, the hotel is but one of many properties in the international Plaza Hotel Group.
The hotel itself serves dual purposes. On the surface, it functions as a normal hotel and conference center, hosting various human functions and guests. If one knows the right questions to ask, however, the staff there is trained to offer special amenities, such as sunproof rooms, or soundproof cells for werecreatures to safely shift into their true forms without being a danger to others. These unique rooms come at a premium, but the service is unparalleled. These accommodations extend to other Plaza Hotels worldwide.
Haven
Haven is a blood bar and strip club that operates out of a building adjacent to the Plaza Hotel. It is a strictly neutral space, a stance maintained by Alexial since the construction of the hotel. Haven offers a place for creatures to act on urges and instincts without drawing humanity’s attention to their existence. It welcomes entities of any origin, however humans need to be vouched for. Guests must abide by a strict code of conduct:
- You are responsible for your guests.
- Blood is given, never taken by force.
- Do not attack; Only defend.
- No death within the walls of the club.
Le Chat Lux
Le Chat Lux is a modern Moulin Rouge. The burlesque hall pays homage to the dance halls of the dance halls of the past with vibrant lighting, props, and costumes. As soon as one steps through the doors they can hear the sweet and bold sounds of alluring music, and the murmuring and excitement of the crowd inside. A faint scent of fine cigar smoke curls through the air, just present enough to entice one towards the nearby cigar lounge. There's always a treat for your eyes on stage and it's always a pleasure to watch.
Museum of Natural History
The Natural History Museum is run by the New Versailles Council for Historical Preservation, and its mainstay exhibits are one on the Voodoo/bayou culture, a collection of fossils and full dinosaur skeletons, and a gigantic aquarium with a whole bunch of local flora and fauna from the river. It has several other exhibits, with the larger ones rotated out every 6-8 months, and the smaller, more local galleries (works by local artists) rotated out every two months or so. It's biggest attraction is an auditorium that is used for talks/lectures in conjunction with NVU, special presentations to go along with some of the bigger exhibits, or to house guest speakers and special events. It also offers a small library and research services to the public. Besides the exhibits and the auditorium, it also has a gala room for large gatherings and events, and a cafe and lounge for those who need to refuel, or just want a place to socialize.
Cinéma Fantaisie
The 1920’s era cinema is a popular source of entertainment that is host to both classic and foreign film nights as well as live entertainment. The auditorium was restored a few years ago after extensive renovations, and reopened to the public with all the details of its former glory.
Riverside
Riverside is one of the more popular shopping districts of the city, filled with an abundance of stores and locations. The region holds a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere compared to some of the other city districts, and it is also host to NVPD and the courthouse. No particular faction holds sway over the territory, although the Autumn Court has a foothold in the neighborhood.
Bruno’s Market
Bruno’s is a small, traditional Italian deli and family-run grocery store. Owned and operated by Nonnie Bruno, the elderly man makes sure his food products are fresh and favorable. He spares no expense to keep his customers happy and satisfied. The store was moderately damaged by flooding in the district in 2014, but was renovated and reopened with the support of the community it continues to serve today.
The Haymarket
One of the best cafes in the city! Whether you're looking for a morning latte to kick start your day or a delicious panini for lunch with your friends, The Haymarket will be happy to serve what you desire. As a hotspot in Riverside, the cafe is also host to karaoke nights, open mics, and other live entertainment.
Morrissey's Bar and Restaurant & The Silver Sight
Based in the Riverside district, Morrissey’s is a traditional Irish pub. Opening at 11am, they serve lunch and dinner, offering standard American fare and some Irish meals, such as corned beef and cabbage. Frequented by civilians, the bar also caters to the NVPD crowd, and officers are often seen there grabbing a meal during their shift or a pint just after. As a result, conflict in the establishment is kept to a minimum. There are rumors that the owner has ties to organized crime, but nothing has ever been substantiated.
While all may appear normal on the surface of the business, there is also a basement pub strictly for supernaturals known as The Silver Sight. Not a true basement - for they can’t possibly exist in the swamplands of Louisiana - the secondary bar exists in a pocket of Faerie. Cliona does not tolerate conflict or violence inside of her establishment and anyone who starts either in The Silver Sight will quickly find themselves teleported onto the pavement in the alley behind the pub.
Police Station
Headquarters of the NVPD. Make no mistake about the city, the law of Louisiana is the law in New Versailles. Police are stationed here at all times and like any police station it is next to impossible to escape the jail cells once put inside one. The NVPD are to be used as NPCs in roleplay where players see fit.
Chinatown
Chinatown is known for many things, it's beauty, culture, and the lack of law enforcement. The territory is claimed by the various crime families, both supernatural and otherwise. While all seems normal on the surface of the mundane community it is not difficult to pick up on the strange and ominous presence that lingers in the district. Crime is something often covered up when it comes to the local authorities and any news reports, so that the families of the neighborhood can handle transgressions directly. Very little gets revealed to the public in terms of crime, which is why Chinatown remains generally appealing to the public. Few people know the truth of just how dangerous it really is.
Moshi Moshi
A sleek and modern sushi bar, Moshi Moshi sports several large aquariums along the walls behind the bar and the traditional Japanese tables. Western-style seating is available as well, and parties of all sizes can be accommodated. The restaurant also sports a karaoke bar in the back with private booths available to rent by the hour.
Shanghai Noodles
Shanghai Noodles is a ramen bar located on the street in Chinatown. This little food stand might not look like much but it is home to the best dumplings and noodles in the city! A popular place to catch a quick bite to eat if you're on the go and a friendly place to sit down and enjoy the company of your peers.
East Heaven Hot Tubs
Enjoy a dip in the baths as the steam that rises relaxes your body and opens your pores to the sweet organic aroma of nature’s most calming scents. It goes without saying that this is one area in Chinatown that can be enjoyed without interruption, and even then you'll likely feel too good to care. Private baths can be rented by the half-hour, and both indoor baths and outdoor rooftop baths are available.
The Patrice Clinic
The Patrice Clinic is a private, supernatural medical practice that is owned and operated by Abellia. The clinic provides the necessary health practices to the abnormal and unfortunate who would otherwise be unable to get treatment in a regular hospital or doctors office. Services are rendered mostly by appointment due to the relatively small staff size, but emergency house calls can also be made. (Players may not NPC the staff at this location, but can apply to be staff.)
The Crimson Dagger
A lounge and restaurant with two very different atmospheres during the day and night. As one of the main attractions in Chinatown, The Crimson Dagger is often reserved for those with a more elegant style and dangerous appetite. There is a warm atmosphere that resonates within the Dagger during the daylight hours, friendly faces and a welcoming staff are often there to greet you at the door upon your arrival, while security remains minimal. Humans are restricted to enter after dark and security is doubled given the nature of the gatherings inside. Every form of monster is invited to have their appetite filled, and their desires satisfied. Hostesses offer up only the freshest of food that often still has a pulse, while others willingly donate smaller portions at a time. Without a doubt, it is the most dangerous place in Chinatown after dark.
The Docks
The port area is indefinitely the slums of the city and is a district known for its high crime rate and less than kind occupants. While there is a large area around the docks that contains subpar housing, its main attraction is an import and export hub. Ships often come to port to transfer both common and rare items of all variety, both legal and less than. The neighborhood also host to the very popular fight club that guarantees a bloody good show for all who participate and come to bet.
The Gray
Among the many dark corners of the city there is a place known as The Gray. The Gray is the underground black market of the city. It deals in all things illegal from weapons, drugs, rare artifacts and even slaves. The Gray deals especially with magical and mythical products including artifacts and ingredients, rare tombs and transcripts, and creatures not of this world. This pop-up market appears throughout the city, but the majority of its goods and meeting places are located within the shipping district.
Fight Club
In addition to the black market, the docks are also the focus point of the underground fight club. It is a violent and exciting attraction that holds weekly matches and participates in underground betting. Those who host events are not the type of people you would want to owe money to because payment is often taken in blood.
Rochet
Rochet is a backwoods area tucked away just along the city limits beyond the crossroads. This wooded area sports a questionable strip club and a quiet little diner, as well as a skeevy motel. This territory is often filled with shape shifters and were-creatures who tend to avoid the hustle and bustle of city life. The rural community exists in a bubble where the supernatural can live in the open, and those who wander into the strange and unusual town forget their magical experiences upon departure. It is remembered only as a podunk town in the middle of nowhere.
Kathy's Diner
Kathy’s is a family-run restaurant located in the rural area of Rochet. A boxcar diner, there’s barely room for the booths crammed into the tiny space. The restaurant sports standard diner fare of burgers and blue plate specials, as well as a host of pies and cakes baked right on the premises.
Peachez N' Cream
A raunchy but vigorous strip club. While the dancers may be more intimate with their showcases this club is not to be underestimated nor those who work here. Security is quite capable of putting those who can't pay for the services out on their ass without hesitation.
The Catalina Motel
Hospitality at its finest, the Catalina features mid-century decor and color televisions in every room! The motel is the land time forgot, and it remains a crumbling relic of a bygone age when the area saw a tourism boom. It houses some permanent residents, but otherwise the occupants are rather transient. Rooms can also be rented by the hour.
Pembrey Woods
These are the woods that parents tell their children stories of to keep them from wandering where they ought not to. The woods are claimed territory by the more feral monsters of New Versailles, but there are far more dangers in these woods then just the big bad wolf. There is a powerful supernatural presence in these woods and those who enter will likely encounter more than they bargain for. While there is a dangerous atmosphere lingering in the woods, there is also a powerful magical influence that resonates from Lake Auberon next to stone circle. The Unseelie Autumn Court reigns over much of the forest.
Pembrey Forest
The dark and dangerous woods that surrounds the hidden monastery, keeping it hidden from the world around it. Animals and shifters alike run the forest floors and stalk the night just waiting for unsuspecting prey to wander by.
Stone Circle
The mysterious stone circle has very little recorded history to how or why it is there, many people of the mundane world come here to camp and tell ghost stories around the fire. Given the atmosphere of the woods, it's more likely that things can turn quickly into a horror film. Those of the supernatural world understand that there is something more powerful about these ruins and if one knows where to look, they might just find a portal to that of a darker world.
Lake Auberon
A beautiful and mysterious lake surrounded by a powerful magical presence. Those vulnerable to supernatural forces will no doubt find their senses charged and perhaps disorienting due to the nature of the energy. Only the fae understand the true nature of the magic in the area, for it is actually a portal to their home realm.
Whisperwood Cemetery
An abandoned graveyard found deep in the woods beyond the borders of the stone circle. Bodies have long since been buried here and they now lay to rest beneath the ruins of scattered graves and broken tombs. The gates beyond the graves no longer opens but if one looks close enough at night, they may see the faint flickering of light in the distance as if candles are lit somewhere deep in the shadows that cover the area.
Bayou Jimson
The Bayou is home of the creeper crawlers and all things slimy and grotesque. The swamp is filled with many dangers and many more treacherous intentions than any other place in the city. People have been known to go missing in these parts and it is no surprise that some of the strangest affairs take place in the area. With several regions included in the bayou it is an easy place to lose your way and and an even harder place to escape.
The Bayou
The magical and mundane collide like stars that scatter over the region as little floating lights that many think to be bugs gathering around the waters. Spanish moss sways ghostly in the heavy, humid breeze, a haunting effect that puts one ill at ease. Still, there is so much more there than the threat of the gators that lurk beneath the surface of the murky waters. Even the whispers of the wind carry the soft voices of lost souls who linger still, unable to rest and move on beyond their bindings to the mundane world.
Pembrey Sanitorium
The Pembrey Sanitorium was located adjacent to the Bayou, on a plot of land purchased from the town of Hatchet. Owned by the Church, it operated originally as a ward for those suffering from Tuberculosis, as it was thought that the peaceful country life might help to soothe them. When the illness became treatable and vaccines helped to eliminate the widespread threat, the building fell into disuse. The Church, having lost funding over the years, inevitably sold the property to the state of Louisiana, which converted the sanitorium into the Pembrey State Hospital.
The hospital functioned as a ward for those considered incurably insane and unstable -- though that definition was rather broad at the time, and often encompassed those involuntarily committed under questionable circumstances. Investigations into abuse and poor living conditions eventually led to the hospital being shut down in the early 1980's, and it stood unoccupied and unused for several years. It became a popular spot for local youth to break into, and its remote location made it difficult for Hatchet PD to patrol regularly. When Hurricane Katrina ravaged the coast, Pembrey was flooded and summarily, wholly abandoned. Though the state still owns the land, there are no plans to redevelop it at this time.
Crossroads
The crossroads is the place between the mundane world and all others, located between Hatchet, Pembrey Woods, the Bayou and the long road in from the city. Although it is a small area of the city it is one that holds a large impact on those of the supernatural realm. There is no good feeling about the crossroads and the moment you step upon the soil an ominous feeling will begin to weigh you down, almost like you have eyes watching you. Yet, you'll see no one there. Rumors have been whispered around the city saying a man in a suit can be seen standing at the crossroads if they look back while they're driving through, others say that dead bodies and the remains of animals have often been found on the stone slab opposite the fading light of the lamp post.

Perdition Park
Perdition Park is an exceptionally beautiful area of the city filled with vast flora and fauna. While it holds a welcoming atmosphere it can also be an eerily dark place and can be quite dangerous for those causing trouble. The park and surrounding woods is territory of the Fae, and it is rumored that there is in fact an existing portal into the Fae realm somewhere deep in the woods within a faerie ring of mushrooms. True-blooded Fae live there, and those who find they cannot fit in with humans or must hide themselves are welcome to make their home here. However those who incorporate themselves into the world of the Fair Folk must abide by their laws.
