The rumors are true.
NV has reopened its doors in our same ol' upload spot at the top of the stairs in FurN. Why? For the past few months, I've been ruminating on the state of the game population, and concluded that the only thing I can do to keep people playing is to give them a place to play. For the past year, people would come to me regularly lamenting NV's closure. (Even now, I've been bombarded with "NV's back? For real?" ever since we uploaded.) Community has always been important to me, so that's what brought us back.
All that said, there have been some pretty significant changes to the way in which we operate.
First and foremost, the rules have been greatly relaxed to be more inclusive of a broader spectrum of characters. We still don't allow godmoding, canons, and overt anthros, but beyond that...? Got an original species you've been itching to break out? Make sure they can look human, and you're golden. Got a hybrid you couldn't play under the old rules? Bam, A-OK now. How about an anthro that was meant to be modern? Come up with an original species and a way to appear human in public, and you can make it work. We want people to use our map and to have a good time. Just keep in mind that other dreams and settings, such as the Dragonlands, still don't exist in NV's universe right now.
Secondly, we've done away with the RP points system, but not open RP. This is primarily because the system was very cumbersome, and it required a lot of manual labor to make it function. We also found that, toward the end of our time last year that it wasn't as powerful a motivator as it used to be. So now, RP is its own reward. You can still get staff to emit your RP prompts (and we have a place for it on Discord too!), but no more points will be awarded. This means that the monthly raffle has gone the way of the dodo as well, though there will still be events with digo and art giveaways.
Thirdly, we've reworked how business and housing rentals work. Instead of using RP points to earn and retain a business, you can apply for free, provided that character has been active in public RP for at least one month. After that, all you need to do to keep your business is host one event per month. It can be something small (like a movie night for the movie theatre), or something more involved (like a rock performance at Le Chat Lux). As long as it engages the community and helps us stay cohesive and strong, that's what really matters.
For housing rentals, we are now accepting only USD, and prices have been reduced on all apartment types. The reason for this is that we now pay for our world package monthly, having sold the lifer to a friend to support their endeavor upon our closure. We also want to fund the development of patch renovation for the map by commissioning our Taneest, Rat The Unloved. To this end, we also continue to offer custom localspecies uploads. You MAY use your original species, even if they glamour themselves to look human. Custom business and housing commissions may even be possible in the near future!

Who's ready for that trailer park out in Hatchet???
Lastly, in what was originally meant to be a succinct announcement, here's a link to our new Discord. (And you can rejoin the group on Furcadia here.) We hope you'll join us and maintain a chill atmosphere. The number one rule of NV 2.0 is Wheaton's Law: Don't be a dick!
Cheers,
Clio
